[Bug 1847582] Re: checkinstall leaves root filesystem unusable if interrupted
my lord, but that was hard to recover from. I had to boot from a thumb drive, use cryptsetup to decrypt the drive, faff about with lvm to get it to recognise the logical volumes, then mount the drive, and eventually figure out that what it had done was to break /lib. removing /lib and replacing it with a symlink to usr/lib (apparently that's the default in 19.04?) seems to have given me a working system again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1847582 Title: checkinstall leaves root filesystem unusable if interrupted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/checkinstall/+bug/1847582/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

hi there, i've been trying to find the time to do a little video, but in the meantime i have some more details: - related bug: pressing lock (super+l) does effectively "lock" the machine in that it prevents input/interaction, but does not hide the desktop. pressing it a second time displays the lock screen - further detail: bug where desktop is displayed only happens to me when I close the laptop lid, rather than locking it manually, presumably because when I lock I hit super+l twice because of the above. - to resume from "broken-lock" i need to press the lock key to display the password input screen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1800352 Title: screen lock leaves desktop and current applications displayed unless activated twice To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1800352/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Pip, the python package manager, is available from "python-pip" for Python 2.7, and "python3-pip" for Python 3.5, however, there is no python3.4-pip, and because of the weird state of Python in debian/ubuntu, there's no way to use "ensurepip" to get it either. [Bug 1290847] Re: pyvenv fails due to mising ensurepip module
I'm now testing Ubuntu 15.10, which seems *even more* broken, since it seems to have a mixed mode of Python3.4 and 3.5. there's no python3.4-pip package, which means there is essentially no way of getting a working pip for python 3.4. I know I'm not a contributor, so I don't *deserve* answers, but I still don't see why Python has to be broken under debian/ubuntu? Why can't it just ship with all of its standard library, like it does on all other platforms? With apologies for the moaning. [Bug 1290847] Re: pyvenv fails due to mising ensurepip module
I do a fair bit of work with beginner Python tutorials. [Bug 1290002] Re: Volume wheel (Dell keyboard) not adjusting Ubuntu volume properly after update
Is this issue ever going to be fixed? Or no one cares anymore about older Ubuntu versions? 12.04 was supposed to be LTS! These issues should have not been neglected, nor allowed to happen in the first place. Before that specific update, which i suspect is this one: xkb-data:amd64 (2.5-1ubuntu1.3, 2.5-1ubuntu1.5), everything on my keyboard was working flawlessly. I cannot use the quickbuttons around the volume wheel or the volume wheel at all. This should be an easy fix for the developers. Please look into it as it is very annoying. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1290002 Title: Volume wheel (Dell keyboard) not adjusting Ubuntu volume properly after update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/1290002/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1316873] [NEW] Left mouse button stops working
Public bug reported: This problem has plagued me for a few years across different laptops and Ubuntu versions. Current I am experiencing this on a Dell Inspiron 15z running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. It typically starts after I have used the chat or call feature in gmail, by clicking on the phone icon in the left chat margin. I am a Firefox user and have not tested this with chrome etc. It has not happened if i dont install google-talkplugin so it is quite possible that the plugin is to blame. Symptom === The left mouse button on all attached mice - USB , Trackpad and touch - will not do anything however the right mouse button continues to work. This happens to all applications and also to the desktop. The keyboard continues to function as normal. When this occurs , my solution is to Alt-F4 close all windows and log out of the X session. When I re-login the left mouse button works as normal. This is an irritant and work disruptor as I have to save all browser and desktop applications to safe state before I logout to reset the mouse. I will appreciate any soltion or workaround. Okay, having looked through the two gdmSessionLog.txt files, I found this line: gnome-session[3819]: WARNING: Failed to start app: Unable to start application: Failed to execute child process "/usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome /polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1" (No such file or directory) I did an apt-get install policykit-1-gnome, and it seems to have fixed the issue.
