[Bug 1327091] Re: Ubuntu floating home button
These are all valid points, however they are part of a much bigger conversation than what we can achieve for RTM. The concept of a home screen, how much we can allow users to customise and what is the best way to access the launcher are all things that we are still looking at. I was initially trying to think of a quick fix while we tackle the bigger issues but thinking about it further, I am not sure there is a "quick fix" at this point. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1327091 Title: Ubuntu floating home button To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-ux/+bug/1327091/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1327091] Re: Ubuntu floating home button
Thank you very much for this. It is really helpful. You have touched on a number of issues and themes in your reply which are all valid point to explore. To be able to suggest the right design solution, it is always helpful to single out the problem we are trying to solve, which according to the points you raised, appears to be the users recognition of the home button. There are three elements here: 1. Locating the path to the home button (in this case knowing that it lives in the launcher) 2. Visual recognition (icon design to indicate the expected behaviour) 3. Once 1 and 2 are comprehended, the ability to quickly perform the action. I think that the first 2 points need attention which will automatically achieve point 3. To enhance the recognition of the home button I suggest the following: 1. Have the launcher always visible by default, and allow users to hide/show it in settings. This will allow first time users to better understand and get acquainted with the structure of their new phones. 2. Revise the icon design, while aligning with other form factors to maintain consistency. [Bug 1327091] Re: Ubuntu floating home button
To better understand your concern, is the issue that users might not know that the home button is included in the launcher, or is it the design of the launcher that you find problematic (having to swipe the launcher in to get to the home button) ?
