[Bug 1966796] Re: gnome-shell lost connection to Xwayland

2022-03-28 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Ok it wasn't clear to me if the fault was gnome-shell or xwayland.
Following the instructional link, I do see https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID
items, but none around this time. The workaround in bug 994921 is outdated and
the line it says to comment is no longer in the file... so I'll just see if it
happens again.

[Bug 1962542] Re: [jammy] Bluetooth headphones unable to connect after suspend in BlueZ 5.63

2022-03-02 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Regarding comment #17 and missing devices from rfkill, there was just a
miscommunication. I meant that the bluetooth line has not changed, and
only pasted that one. But in both cases (before/after suspend), I do see
all three lines as mentioned in #17. Sorry for the unnecessary
confusion.

I'm also attaching a full journalctl -b0 log.

Then regarding https://github.com/bluez/bluez/issues/272 and
https://github.com/bluez/bluez/issues/220, I do not have a systemd
coredump so doesn't look like 272 directly. I could try to downgrade to
bluez 5.61 and see if that fixes the issue (I expect it does since it
was working fine till recently), but sounds like it's fixed in 5.64 so
I'll test this older version if really necessary :)

[Bug 1962566] [NEW] gnome-shell crash after resume from suspend in util.js:154

2022-03-01 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Public bug reported:

### Affected version
* Your OS and version: ubuntu 22.04 (dev series, before release)
* Affected GNOME Shell version: 41.3-1ubuntu1
* Issue appears in Wayland

### Bug summary

Sometimes gnome-shell hangs when I open the laptop to login from the
suspend state, preventing the rest of gdm to load. Because I am running
wayland, I cannot open another tty either. If I close the laptop lid
again and wait 30s or so and reopen to retry, it will work.

### Steps to reproduce
Not 100% reproducible, happens sometimes.
1. open laptop to login from suspend
2. see login screen with time and all looks normal but is unresponsive

### What happened

The login screen is hung and unresponsive to clicks/touches(touchscreen)/any
keyboard input events.

### What did you expect to happen

The login screen should be responsive to input.

### Relevant logs, screenshots, screencasts etc.

After a successful login, I see a crash in journalctl:

```
[Bug 1962542] Re: bose quietcomfort 35 unable to connect after suspend
2022-03-01 Thread Heather Ellsworth
There is no difference in 'rfkill' before/after suspend. In both cases,
the bluetooth line looks like this:
heather@fenrir:~$ rfkill
ID TYPE  DEVICE   SOFT  HARD
 0 bluetooth tpacpi_bluetooth_sw unblocked unblocked
And the PID of bluetoothd is the same before/after suspend, and not
missing. I've also added some apport info.
apport information
** Description changed:
  Bose quietcomfort 35 is a common headset that can no longer connect to a
  jammy system after just one suspend. This started at the end of January
  but just now really debugging the issue.
+ Side note that my bluetooth mouse works fine without problem after any
+ amount of suspends.
  The headset is only trying to connect to the jammy system (no other
  bluetooth devices it's paired with has active bluetooth, to isolate only
  the jammy <-> headset issue). This is jammy running on a T590, up to
  date, not proposed.
[Bug 1933828] Re: NTP servers from DHCP are not propagated to timesyncd
2021-10-19 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Here is a networkd-dispatcher fix:
And here is a network-manager fix:
https://launchpad.net/~hellsworth/+archive/ubuntu/network-manager/+build/22316944
Both should work, so please test the networkd-dispatcher fix first and
network-manager if needbe.
[Bug 1933828] Re: NTP servers from DHCP are not propagated to timesyncd
2021-10-06 Thread Heather Ellsworth
I've got this setup between two vms, where the server vm is hosting
dnsmasq with ntp and the client synchronizes from the server (on a
private network). This issue of the timesync conf needing to be updated
exists in systemd-timesyncd too. But tackling the NetworkManager case as
this is the customer issue.. we could put this fix in either networkd-
dispatcher or network-manager. I've got a local build of network-manager
that drops the file in place.. but needs to be tweaked.
Should the 10-update-timesyncd file be put in place by networkd-
dispatcher or network-manager?
[Bug 1933828] Re: NTP servers from DHCP are not propagated to timesyncd
2021-09-15 Thread Heather Ellsworth
I tried to reproduce this, to test the fix, but I am stuck trying to figure out
how to manually set the ntp server. I can't see any difference between when the
vm (with no network) has this
/etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/10-update-timesyncd file in place or not. I
think that's good but maybe not so relevant without “seeing” the problem. I've
been looking at the commands:
   ◇ systemctl status systemd-timesyncd
   ◇ timedatectl show
   ◇ timedatectl status
I believe timedatectl is the way a user would interact with timesyncd and
there's a timedatectl command to set the time zone or even time, but nothing to
set the server. So how the heck do you change the NTP server to something other
than ntp.ubuntu.com?
[Bug 1923642] Re: glib can no longer be included in extern "C" blocks
2021-09-08 Thread Heather Ellsworth
> Keeping the patches separate is good practice in that they might not
all be accepted upstream at the same time.
Ah that makes sense!
> The master branch of the gnucash repo seems to only include the
debian/ directory, not the upstream files.
This threw me off and that's why I made a patch that made a patch,
thinking that's what would have had to happen. I see that while that
needs to happen sometimes for some projects (libreoffice), it's not a
hard rule.
> Well, the "Bug 798156 - glib 2.68.0 breaks gnucash" patch never was
sufficient on top of version 4.4 of gnucash.
I could have sworn I tested it but looking back at my notes from when I
first opened the PR, you must be right. I had definitely convinced
myself that it fixed the issue but I was wrong.
> What you put in your Debian MR seems to be the same as in your PPA.
Yep, I was rushing and had incorrectly remembered that the patch had fixed the
problem and was hoping it still would fix it.
[Bug 1923642] Re: glib can no longer be included in extern "C" blocks
2021-09-08 Thread Heather Ellsworth
@Gunnar, Thanks! I didn't realize that the 4.6 that debian pulled fixes
the issue. There was nothing in the 4.6 commits that suggested this
issue had been fixed, so did you just build and test it to see? Or how
did you know that 4.6 fixes the issue?
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/gnucash/-/compare/f9461670c5f516e31631a80975eebf6b6e56a1c6...c45dcd6db80fc45ef60cc5d30eb5612f6b64ce9d
I don't doubt you at all, just trying to figure out what I missed :)
Also, this creating of a patch worked 2 months ago to get past the build
issue.. so yesterday I assumed it would still work. But it looks like
there are more files to patch now and you've done that with your
patches. But, why not put all of the patches into one big patch?
[Bug 1935081] Re: FTBFS: Cannot build with BUG_STAT_MISSING defined
2021-09-07 Thread Heather Ellsworth
It looks like libpam-alreadyloggedin is pulled directly from debian from
the Vcs-Git line so that's why I submitted the fix upstream (still open
and untouched): https://salsa.debian.org/debian/libpam-
alreadyloggedin/-/merge_requests/1
So is libpam-alreadyloggedin now forked from debian and is it worth it
for the ftbfs fix? If so, we should update the vcs-git line to point to
it's location in launchpad.
Yep this crash is easily reproducible on Focal, Hirsute and Impish.
I created a spreadsheet of equal rows and columns and tried various things but
could not reproduce the crash on my spreadsheet - only the one provided by the
problem. I'll report it upstream and see what they have to say :)
I know you said the size of the spreadsheet is 57 KB, but can you tell
[Bug 1936254] [NEW] [snap] 7.2.0.1 build from tarball fails to find modules
2021-07-14 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Public bug reported:
The LO snap builds from the upstream tarballs. In this case, we're building
from (in the snapcraft.yaml):
http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/src/7.2.0/libreoffice-7.2.0.1.tar.xz
The snap repo commit being built:
https://git.launchpad.net/~hellsworth/+git/libreoffice-
snap/commit/?id=d8a871e0d330928885201dcaafdec30dfb0c7b61
The build failure:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/548455036/buildlog_snap_ubuntu_focal_amd64_libreoffice-7.2-wip_BUILDING.txt.gz
Locally, I've reproduced this failure and the modules are there, just
not in the expected place.
snapcraft-libreoffice # find . -name Module_helpcontent2.mk
./parts/libreoffice/build/src/libreoffice-help-7.2.0.1/helpcontent2/Module_helpcontent2.mk
Looking through the libreoffice source changes, I believe this commit is the
culprit:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/core/commit/?id=f3b7dc649bc384be6000d98a87763cab26fe3f32
Reverting this commit in a patch gets past the issue and the build
resumes.
[Bug 1935081] [NEW] FTBFS: Cannot build with BUG_STAT_MISSING defined
2021-07-08 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Public bug reported:
0.3-8 is in hirsute and builds fine with :
gcc -g -O2 -fdebug-prefix-map=/<>=. -fstack-protector-strong
-Wformat -Werror=format-security -Wall -fPIC -DLINUX_PAM -I. -DBUG_STAT_MISSING
-Wdate-time -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -UBUG_STAT_MISSING   -c
pam_alreadyloggedin.c
0.3-9 in impish proposed fails with :
gcc -g -O2 -ffile-prefix-map=/<>=. -flto=auto -ffat-lto-objects
-fstack-protector-strong -Wformat -Werror=format-security -Wall -fPIC
-DLINUX_PAM -I. -DBUG_STAT_MISSING -Wdate-time -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2  -c
pam_alreadyloggedin.c
Comparing these shows that -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 and -UBUG_STAT_MISSING
were lost in the 0.3-9 release. This comes as a result of the
debian/rules being overhauled to use dh sequencer. Before the rules
update, it had :
export CPPFLAGS = $(shell dpkg-buildflags --get CPPFLAGS) \
-D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 \
-UBUG_STAT_MISSING \
This block is gone in impish, so BUG_STAT_MISSING is no longer being
undefined (it is defined over in the makefile.diff). And
pam_alreadyloggedin.c uses __xstat if BUG_STAT_MISSING is defined,
leading to our failure.
[Bug 1934534] [NEW] gauche-gtk FTBFS: unknown define-cclass qualifier(s) (::base)
2021-07-02 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Public bug reported:
gauche-gtk is taken directly from debian. The upstream source hasn't
been touched in 2 years and debian isn't shipping it past buster because
they hit the same build failure causing it to stop building in hirsute
and impish. The build failure became a debian bug sitting unattended for
this seemingly abandoned project
[Bug 1931958] Re: 0~git20200629+e7aa92a-8 is FTFBS
2021-07-02 Thread Heather Ellsworth
The gstreamer commit that fixes the issue is on gstreamer master on
2021-06-23:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gstreamer/-/commit/b16e96dd878e0c5e7baeb8fad62ca43de1f66982
So this should be picked up in the next tag, which might be in a month
or so. Then that gstreamer needs to be picked up by debian and ubuntu
and released. But the whole time we're holding libcamera back while
waiting for the one gstreamer commit. So I wonder if the Ubuntu
gstreamer maintainers would consider pulling this commit in early.
2021-05-19 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Can you please try to do the upgrade again (see commands below) and
paste the output?
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt --only-upgrade install libreoffice-common
That should attempt to upgrade only libreoffice-common (and anything it
depends on). If this fails, I'd like to see the error message.
Can you provide guidance on setting up MRI for this failure case? You
must be building 1.3.4 from https://github.com/hanya/MRI/blob/v1.3.4 but
I'm not sure how you then run it to get the crash.
[Bug 1925837] Re: New window pops up with webcam/mic icons
2021-04-23 Thread Heather Ellsworth
apport information
** Tags added: apport-collected hirsute wayland-session
** Description changed:
  I'm running updated hirsute with the firefox 87.0+build3-0ubuntu4 deb,
  just as it comes. This system was a fresh install of 20.10 that was then
  upgraded to 21.04.
  When I have a tab that will start using my webcam/mic, there is a new ff
  window that is created with these icons. The window is (more or less)
  minimized to fit the size of the icons (see screenshot). I can close the
  window by clicking the normal x, and closing this window does not
  interrupt my webcam/mic usage.
- What I normally expect is that when my webcam/mic is being used by some
- ff tab, the ff/webcam/mic icons are displayed constantly in the top
- middle of my display.
[Bug 1925837] Re: New window pops up with webcam/mic icons
2021-04-23 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Also, there are no journalctl logs generated when this happens.
And you can leave the new window with the icons there, or close it.
Either way it doesn't seem to make a difference. If you leave it around,
and then your webcam/mic usage is over (the meeting ended), then the
icons window goes away. So the presence of the icons do indicate whether
the webcam/mic are being used or not. If you close the window, you can
still use your devices but there is no indication that they are in use.
[Bug 1923305] Re: LibreOffice 6.4 OpenType Features unusable
2021-04-19 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Thank you for your suggestion to cherrypick this onto the 6.4 branch. We
try to keep the branches as in line with upstream as possible so if you
would like to use the newer 7.X then I suggest you try the snap out:
https://snapcraft.io/libreoffice
Remove the libreoffice deb and install the snap with:
$ sudo apt purge libreoffice*
$ sudo snap install libreoffice
[Bug 1924684] Re: package libreoffice-common (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/soffice', which is also in package openoffice-debian-menus 4.1.9-9805
2021-04-17 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Hi Glen, I understand and we've all been there (installing stuff
manually that comes to bite us later). Realistically, the best thing to
do is to remove libreoffice and install it from the Ubuntu archive
(apt). But I also understand you wanting to keep around what is already
working for you.
So can you give me a paste of the output of "dpkg -l | grep
libreoffice"? It sounds like libreoffice is half installed (from apt's
perspective). Also, when you installed libreoffice manually, what did
you install (version) and how do you launch it?
[Bug 1924594] [NEW] libgmock-dev build dependency needed
2021-04-15 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Public bug reported:
indicator-power no longer builds.
make[3]: *** No rule to make target 'tests/gmock/libgmock_main.a',
needed by 'tests/test-notify'.  Stop.
The build failure: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/532498126
/buildlog_ubuntu-hirsute-amd64.indicator-
power_12.10.6+17.10.20170829.1-0ubuntu6_BUILDING.txt.gz
If you install libgmock-dev in the build environment first, it fixes the
build problem.
[Bug 1924587] [NEW] sysctl.h has been deprecated and should be removed
2021-04-15 Thread Heather Ellsworth
Public bug reported:
Builds fail because of using sys/sysctl.h
Unique.cpp:7:10: fatal error: sys/sysctl.h: No such file or directory
7 | #include
  |  ^~
compilation terminated.
The build failure: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/532496954
/buildlog_ubuntu-hirsute-amd64.gsimplecal_2.1-1build1_BUILDING.txt.gz
sys/sysctl.h usage has been deprecated: https://sourceware.org/pipermail
/glibc-cvs/2020q2/069366.html
I've verified that removing this line (it is only in Unique.cpp), the
build completes just fine.
The upstream project has recently been revived and looks like they're
readying a 2.2 release, which does have this fix:
https://salsa.debian.org/debian/gsimplecal/-/tree/debian/2.2-1
Actually there is a better fix in Fedora:
