[Bug 1938898] Re: mokutil: not built on riscv64

U-Boot already supports booting via UEFI on RISC-V including secure
boot. With mokutil we can display the relevant information.
SetVariable() is not implemented we cannot update anything.

EDK II should allow setting variables. Currently it is only available
for the HiFive Unleashed.

[Bug 1937376] Re: u-boot in impish has unstable mac address

2021-07-23 Thread Heinrich Schuchardt
The ethernet address of the HiFive Unmatched board is determined here:

board/sifive/unmatched/hifive-platform-i2c-eeprom.c:534:
eth_env_set_enetaddr("ethaddr", e.mac_addr);

According to the code in hifive-platform-i2c-eeprom.c you can write the
MAC address to the device eeprom using the mac command:

mac read_eeprom
mac mac_address 01:02:03:04:05:06
max write_eeprom

I have not tested this!

The code first appeared in commit 946afdf6209e ("board: sifive:
unmatched: add initial support for a platform ID EEPROM") dated June
30th, 2021 and is not contained in release v2021.07.

[Bug 1937277] [NEW] [SRU] OpenSBI 0.9 backport to Focal

2021-07-22 Thread Heinrich Schuchardt
Public bug reported:

OpenSBI 0.9 backport to Focal

[Impact]
* OpenSBI is used to create RISC-V images for various boards and to boot RISC-V
virtual machines.
 * Our current 0.8 release lacks a patch for CPU erratum CIP-1200 described in
Errata_FU740-C000_20210205 from https://www.sifive.com/boards/hifive-unmatched
 * Bugs in OpenSBI that may lead to crashes have been resolved in v0.9.

[Test Case]

 * Build U-Boot with new OpenSBI version and boot Focal images with this
U-Boot installed.

[Where problems could occur]

 * Parts of the OpenSBI code where restructured, new SBI extensions were
added. Bugs in the modified code might lead to failure to boot, reboot,
poweroff or might lead to crashes.

[Other Info]

Here are the release notes for OpenSBI Version 0.9:

This release has:

Lots of fixes and improvements
Optimized trap handler for both RV32 and RV64
Domain support for system-level partitioning
Device tree based domain configuration
SBI v0.3 SRST extension
More detailed boot-time prints
Makefile option to use toolchain default ISA and ABI

[Bug 1937246] [NEW] U-Boot 2021.07-rc4+dfsg-1ubuntu1 cannot boot Hifive Unmatched

2021-07-22 Thread Heinrich Schuchardt
Public bug reported:

When trying to boot with

U-Boot 2021.07-rc4+dfsg-1ubuntu1

on an HiFive Unmatched board it fails with:

Moving Image from 0x8400 to 0x8020, end=81f11000
## Flattened Device Tree blob at 8800
   Booting using the fdt blob at 0x8800
   Loading Ramdisk to fa149000, end ffd3 ...

The system hangs here.

Copying the initrd results in overwriting the relocated U-Boot binary in
memory.

[Bug 1937055] Re: OpenSBI: system reset support missing for HiFive Unmatched

2021-07-21 Thread Heinrich Schuchardt
The patches from SiFive
(http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/opensbi/2021-July/001243.html) for
a GPIO reset driver have been added to upstream OpenSBI in July.

A patch has been sent upstream to make that driver usable if a boards
supports both gpio-reset and gpio-powerdown:

[PATCH 1/1] lib: utils: support multiple reset drivers of same type
http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/opensbi/2021-July/001534.html

A device-tree node is missing for gpio-reset in U-Boot's device-tree.

[Bug 1937055] [NEW] OpenSBI: system reset support missing for HiFive Unmatched

2021-07-21 Thread Heinrich Schuchardt
Public bug reported:

With our current images the Linux poweroff and reboot commands fail.
Same for U-Boot.

https://github.com/sifive/meta-sifive/tree/2021.06/recipes-
bsp/opensbi/files/unmatched contains a series of patches to provide the
system reset extension in OpenSBI.

http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/opensbi/2021-July/001243.html is
starts a series of patches to upstream a system reset extension
implementation.

Suggested actions:

Build OpenSBI with one of the two series and check what additional
changes in Linux and U-Boot might be needed to get working poweroff and
reboot.

[Bug 1936370] Re: u-boot-sifive does not upgrade u-boot on disk

2021-07-16 Thread Heinrich Schuchardt
> But does not check what was on the
> partitions before, or if they were used at all or not.

This is what our impish image looks like:

Number Start (sector)End (sector) Size Code Name
   1  235554 7339998   3.4 GiB 8300
  12  227362  235553   4.0 MiB 8300  CIDATA
  13  342081   1024.0 KiB    loader1
  142082   10273   4.0 MiB   loader2
  15   10274  227361   106.0 MiB   EF00

Partitions 13 and 14 are only protective partitions. They are not needed
at all to boot via U-Boot.

The place to flash U-Boot SPL (sector 34) is hard coded in the boot ROM.
The offset of 1 MiB to main U-Boot is encoded as jump address in OpenSBI.
The total length of main U-Boot is well below 4 MiB. But those 4 MiB will be
large enough to install EDK II once released.

If U-Boot was previously installed it cannot be in a different place.

What you could check is that no partition with data (type 8300, EF00,
...) collides with what you flash.

Best regards

Heinrich

[Bug 1936170] [NEW] blender: building on RISC-V fails

2021-07-14 Thread Heinrich Schuchardt
Public bug reported:

Some of the necessary corrections are in
https://developer.blender.org/D11910.

For cross-compiling with sbuild we need a change in debian/control:

- python3-requests
+ python3-requests:native

It is unclear to which architecture this bug report once related to.

In 0.7.3-6.1ubuntu2 all architectures have a SYSCALL 262

sysdeps/linux-gnu/ppc/syscallent.h:284:"mq_open",   /* 262

sysdeps/linux-gnu/x86/syscallent.h:284: "262",  /* 262

sysdeps/linux-gnu/x86/syscallent1.h:284:"newfstatat",
/* 262 */
sysdeps/linux-gnu/sparc/syscallent.h:283:"timer_settime",   /* 262

sysdeps/linux-gnu/ia64/syscallent.h:283:"262",

sysdeps/linux-gnu/arm/syscallent.h:283: "clock_settime",   /*

sysdeps/linux-gnu/aarch64/syscallent.h:283: "fanotify_init",

So I mark it as "fix released".

[Bug 1935860] [NEW] ltrace: building on RISC-V fails

2021-07-12 Thread Heinrich Schuchardt
Public bug reported:

version: 0.7.3-6.1ubuntu2

Building package ltrace for riscv64 fails due to missing architecture
specific files (sysdeps/linux-gnu/riscv64). Some of these can be auto-
generated from Linux sources.

Since 2013 there is no upstream for the package. Fedora, Suse, Debian,
Canonical all maintain their own patch series.

ltrace allows tracing library and system calls and is still in use as a
developer tool.

Suggested actions:

* consolidate distro-specific patches into a single repository
* develop RISC-V specific code

[Bug 1935679] [NEW] crash: build failure on RISC-V

2021-07-09 Thread Heinrich Schuchardt
Public bug reported:

version: 7.3.0-1ubuntu1

Building crash for RISC-V fails with a segfault. This segfault is due to
missing support for architecture RISC-V in file configure.c. configure
is used to update Makefile. It replaces "TARGET " by "(NULL)". A patch
is at
https://github.com/xypron/crash/commit/2391175c7936a3d873b7b7f1b6c6cae2f4c166b8

Current upstream crash uses an version 7.6 for gdb which does not
support RISC-V. Patch series https://listman.redhat.com/archives/crash-
utility/2021-March/msg00078.html provides an update to gdb 10.1.

https://github.com/YustasSwamp/crash/tree/crash-gdb10.2-devel-temp
provides patches for using gdb 10.2.

For building we need command makeinfo which is provided by missing
package texinfo.

[Bug 1935063] [NEW] gnome-initial-setup: cannot build on RISC-V

2021-07-08 Thread Heinrich Schuchardt
Public bug reported:

version: 40.2-1ubuntu1
platform: RISC-V

gnome-initial-setup cannot be built on RISC-V due to a dependency on
libsysmetrics-dev.

libsysmetrics-dev is built from source package ubuntu-report. Building
of ubuntu-report fails because the Go language does not support
-buildmode=c-shared on RISC-V yet.

The dependency is due to our patch 0001-Add-Ubuntu-mode-with-special-
pages.patch.

The report implemented in gis-ubuntu-report-page.c is used to send
system info to Canonical.

Feasible solutions would be

* remove the report completely
* disable it for RISC-V

Best regards

Heinrich

[Bug 1934891] [NEW] squid: build failure for Impish RISC-V

2021-07-07 Thread Heinrich Schuchardt
Public bug reported:

Building Squid for Impish on RISC-V fails.

Two problems were identified. Upstream merge request have been created:

https://github.com/squid-cache/squid/pull/855 for

tools.cc: In function ‘void enter_suid()’:
tools.cc:585:11: error: ignoring return value of ‘int setuid(__uid_t)’
declared with attribute ‘warn_unused_result’ [-Werror=unused-result]
  585 | setuid(0);
  | ~~^~~

https://github.com/squid-cache/squid/pull/856 for

/usr/riscv64-linux-gnu/include/c++/10/ostream:611:
undefined reference to __atomic_compare_exchange_1

With suggested patches building succeeds.

[Bug 1929594] [NEW] linux-image-5.11.0-1008-generic: cannot read initrd via EFI_LOAD_FILE2_PROTOCOL

2021-05-25 Thread Heinrich Schuchardt
Public bug reported:

I am running on QEMU riscv64 with upstream OpenSBI and U-Boot.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 21.04
Release:21.04

In U-Boot I define a boot option and boot via UEFI:

efidebug boot add -b 0001 Ubuntu virtio 0:1 boot/vmlinuz-5.11.0-1008-generic -i
virtio 0:1 boot/initrd.img-5.11.0-1008-generic -s
'root=UUID=386038e2-e47c-49db-a74b-db2e730fa494 earlycon console=ttyS0'
efidebug boot order 0001
bootefi bootmgr

Loading the initial RAM disk fails due to a bug in the EFI kernel stub:

U-Boot's implementation of the EFI_LOAD_FILE2_PROTOCOL is called with
buffer=NULL, *buffer_size=0 and returns the buffer size and status code
EFI_BUFFER_TOO_SMALL. Now the upstream kernel code would allocate the
memory and call the protocol a second time. But the Ubuntu kernel does
not allocate memory.

I added '#define DEBUG 1' to U-Boot's efi_memory.c to efi_load_initrd.c
to get more output:
