[Bug 430306] Re: [karmic] serious kernel issue acer 5715z

2009-09-18 Thread Hellsgator
Acerhdf says it does not recognice the correct bios version. correct
version is v1.45.

In principle i am not able to use 9.10 since it request to abort now. It
does work, still laptop is acting really strange. For some reason i have
lost over 10GB of hard disk space and it seems to be gone. I am being
completely clueless about this.

[Bug 430306] Re: [karmic] serious kernel issue acer 5715z

2009-09-17 Thread Hellsgator
Very hard now. Just installed new BIOS version. Took me 2 days, really
funny trying to get it installed on lInux. :)

Story is like this... 9.10 crashed after the updates from that day. The
first thing I did, was trying to install the wireless driver, which
started the KernelOops reaction. The wireless driver did install, was
working, KernelOops turned up and started to give many stacktraces. I
waited till it was done and rebooted. Managed to get in and started to
update 9.10. It was a partial upgrade, resulting again in a reboot
request, which I did. After those updates it started to give many crash
reports, all pointing to a serious kernel issue. This is the report
here. I still decided to reboot and my laptop went mentally insane. It
managed to get to the start up screen, which was way out of propertion
in it's graphics, to crash seconds after starting up the boot sequence.
I was not able to enter 9.10 any more, so I made a bunch of fresh
installs trying to get in. I managed partially after I installed start
up manager, starting up in recovery mode. It still crashed, but I
managed to get some info.

What I could read in the last line is that 9.10 found a unknown BIOS
version and crashed right after it. It also said something about being
unable to read udev. I tried to use break option, which did not work, so
I can not provide all info from starting up with the text mode. I
decided to check on the Acer website and found out that I was running on
a old BIOS version. I was running on v1.43, latest version is v1.45 for
the 5715z.

I have installed this one now, busy at this point with installing linux-
image-2.6.31-9-generic alpha 5, the same version I used to reinstall
before and I am not sure what will happen next after I reboot and
install the updates that made my laptop crash. I will send out a new
info text after I done with updating.

2009-09-17 Thread Hellsgator
Ok, bump again. Does not start up at all.

List of bugs after updates:

Cryptswap fails

FSCK fails. root system mounted in read only mode. asking for fix
superblock, passing all checks.

attempt maintenance shell fails

init: unable to connect the sytem bus: fails to connect to socket
/var/run/dbus/sytem_bus_socket: no such file or directory.

Other thing I notice is that it did not update to linux-image-2.6.31.10.
I will add update list, saved it in my mailbox.

Found the issue. BIOS version is supposed to be V1.45 instead of V1.43.

Kernel found a unknown BIOS and crashes because of it. Might explain the
problem.

[Bug 430309] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 0001b700

2009-09-15 Thread Hellsgator
just rebooted after updates, 9.10 crashes completely on 5715z, leaving
laptop in a complete unusable state. Very very serious kernel issue
here. Never had a crash like this before.

Does not start up any more on regular boot. Unable to enter grub2 for
recovery mode. Starts up till start up screen, begins with booting up
and crashes seconds after it. Start up screen way out of proportion.
Turns black after some seconds, software on hard disk tries to recover,
fails in doing so.

I will try a clean install to see what happens next.

Oh dear me again. :(

2009-09-15 Thread Hellsgator
Tried a clean install a moment ago... ending in a major crash of 9.10.

Acer 5715z crashes at boot. Can not start up any more. Unable to recover
from kernel crash.

Cannot provide any info at this point, will make a clean install
tomorrow with start up manager installed, so I can still enter in
recovery mode. Still unable to enter Grub2 without it. Btw, i do not for
sure if this will work. Still need to test it.

Laptop is in a unusable state. No oops report to add, cannot enter
desktop.

Please provide needed info to send out proper bug report. I am not sure
which steps to take now to be able to send one. If I am able to send one
tomorrow after a fresh install.

[Bug 391740] Re: unable to login, bug report

2009-06-24 Thread Hellsgator
i think so, i still have the problem.

the problem is that i am unable to get into Ubuntu 9.10 running on
Gnome. it starts up till i see the desktop being formed, it blinks,
turns black and returns to the login screen. running now xcfe to be able
to use my laptop.

i can try using the fail safe monitor option (not sure if that works)
after i have started up and send another bug report. will this work?
ubuntu-bug -p gdm is the correct one?

Fixed it. :)

Running EXT 4 setup and done a fresh install. After install of Grub 2,
it offered suggested package desktop-base and some other suggested
packages after that. I installed these and problem seems to be gone. I
did not do this the last time. Must be related, i guess.

The program 'nicotine.py' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'RenderBadPicture (invalid Picture parameter)'.

Unable to give any further info because there is no crash reported. If
there is a way to reproduce one, please inform me. N+-svn is not

RE: [Bug 184758] Re: Upgrade error Gutsy to Hardy

2008-02-03 Thread Hellsgator

Heya,

Thanks for the reply. I used update-manager -d. It turned out be a
problem with a NVidia graphics-card and after i pulled it out, Hardy
installed normaly.

And, yes, i am still kinda new to Linux and figuring it out along the
way. There is a lot of info to be found and i don't mind when it goes
wrong sometimes. I am used to Windows, where there is always something
wrong. So far the new version works fine, it is being updated daily and
sends out status reports on a weekly basis, Hardly found any bugs so
far.

Greetings,

Rickus

What method did you use to upgrade? Also if you're new to Ubuntu, it's
not suggested to run Hardy until it is released as it is still in
development. You might find this forum thread useful:

[Bug 184758] Re: Upgrade error Gutsy to Hardy

2008-01-21 Thread Hellsgator
Well, close, but no sigar...

Managed to install 8.04 and it kept hanging on the starting screen,
unable to log in and do anything. I've gotten the follwing message a
couple of times:

BusyBox v1.1.3 (debian1:1.1.3-5ubuntu9) Build in shell. Enter 'help'

(initramfs)

So, i am clueless. I rebooted and manage to get in by using GRUB and
started up in recovery mode wich told me the following:

Check root = bootarg cat /proc/cmdune
or missing modules, devices /proc/modules Is /dev
ALERT!: /dev/disk/by-uuid/8c9b8a04-54f0-4579-8e5d-5efec8afd02e does not exist.
Dropping to shell.

Now i am using 8.04 now without that much problems, still i have no
idear on how to solve this matter. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!

Hellsgator
