[Bug 2046544] Re: debvm 0.2.13 autopkgtest fails on ppc64el
I believe that 0.3 improves the situation, because it now passes `-cpu max` rather than `-cpu host` and thus improves the fallback behavior. Additionally, I think this is a bug in Ubuntu's infrastructure, because the `/dev/kvm` device is writable to the autopkgtest user and not working. Earlier versions of debvm would notice an inaccessible `/dev/kvm` and not attempt to use kvm in that case. Having the infrastructure remove or chmod the broken `/dev/kvm` device would also fix the test. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2046544 Title: debvm 0.2.13 autopkgtest fails on ppc64el To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debvm/+bug/2046544/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you. Can you please verify which of /bin, /lib, /lib64, /sbin are symlinks on that source system? If they are all symlinks there, your rsync copy somehow managed to unmerge the system. If they are all directories there, please try to go into more detail how that baremetal 22.04 system was originally installed (if possible). In order to fix up your situation, you should attempt to install the `usrmerge` package (possibly from an older release if it is no longer available from noble). Failing that, copy the script `/usr/lib/usrmerge/convert-usrmerge` from any other system and run it locally. You may need to install some Perl modules to have it work. After having performed this step, `libc6.preinst` should no longer fail and your upgrade should proceed normally. Even after fixing this, I'm still interested in how you got into that situation and identifying the root cause. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2058648 Title: package libc6 2.35-0ubuntu3.6 [modified: usr/share/doc/libc6/NEWS.Debian.gz usr/share/doc/libc6/NEWS.gz usr/share/doc/libc6/README.hesiod.gz usr/share/doc/libc6/changelog.Debian.gz usr/share/lintian/overrides/libc6] failed to install/upgrade: new libc6:amd64 package pre-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/2058648/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you. Quite clearly, that system is not /usr-merged, but should be. Not being /usr-merged is unsupported at this time. The question arises how you got there. Can you explain what kind of system that is? Is it a regular installation, a container, a chroot or something else? Was it created recently or upgraded since a long time? I don't fully understand the situation at hand, but let me add some background. From the log it seems fairly clear that `lib6.preinst` is the thing that fails here. It adds two diversions: dpkg-divert --quiet --add --no-rename --package base-files --divert "/.${rtlddir#/}.usr-is-merged" "$rtlddir" dpkg-divert --quiet --add --no-rename --divert "$rtlddir/$rtld_so.usr-is-merged" "$rtlddir/$rtld_so" It seems fairly implausible that the "$rtlddir/$rtld_so" would become a directory for any reason. If that were the case, `dpkg-divert` (being a dynamic executable) would fail to start. Most likely, it is the first diversion that fails here. Since the package at hand is `:amd64`, `rtlddir=/lib64`. So for some reason, `/lib64` is a directory on your installation and not a symbolic link. In effect, this is (at least partially) an unmerged system and this is unsupported. This still is a bug in the sense that the error message is very confusing. `libc6.preinst` should probably be verifying that `$rtlddir` really is a symbolic link before adding the diversion. In the end, the outcome would be the same: When `$rtlddir` is not a symbolic link, all that `libc6.preinst` can do is fail (with a better error message). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2058648 Title: package libc6 2.35-0ubuntu3.6 [modified: usr/share/doc/libc6/NEWS.Debian.gz usr/share/doc/libc6/NEWS.gz usr/share/doc/libc6/README.hesiod.gz usr/share/doc/libc6/changelog.Debian.gz usr/share/lintian/overrides/libc6] failed to install/upgrade: new libc6:amd64 package pre-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glibc/+bug/2058648/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05
Forget everything up to now - it is a kernel bug that has been known since January of this year and for which there has been a fix since then. I can't say why it hasn't been included in the kernel so far. Here is the patch: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux- next.git/commit/?id=d25e8fdebdad84219b498873300b7f11dd915b88 It's been included in Manjaro Linux kernel >= 5.8.13-4 (5.9 with the next update) https://gitlab.manjaro.org/packages/core/linux58/-/blob/master/0305 -gpio-amd-fch.patch The bug was, that at /drivers/gpio/gpio-amd-fch.c the line "return ret ? GPIO_LINE_DIRECTION_IN : GPIO_LINE_DIRECTION_OUT;" was wrong. It must be correct "return ret ? GPIO_LINE_DIRECTION_OUT : GPIO_LINE_DIRECTION_IN;" A small swap that unfortunately has a big impact on the owners of a Lenovo Legion. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1887190 Title: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/pop-os/+bug/1887190/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Coiby Xu (coiby) You are the best !!! First of all, thank you very much for the patch - it works perfectly. All I had to do was add the fix from @wangjun (biggerchina). @Stillnurs Please do not confuse apples with oranges! We're talking about the Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05 with the MSFT0001: 00 04F3: 3140 touchpad. It may be nice that it works with the MSFT0001: 01 04F3: 309E on your Legion Y540, but that is a different hardware and therefore not helpful.

[Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05
"unfortunately using the 'elan touchpad patch' didn't work because probably MSFT0001:00 04F3:3140 is not an elan device." Thats not really correct. The touchpad is from Elan (see Vendor-ID 04F3) and there are the following two versions: ELAN0001:00 04F3:3140 MSFT0001:00 04F3:3140 The MSFT (where MS is probably the abbreviation for MicroSoft) seems to have a different firmware that meets Microsoft's requirements and there is no driver for it under Linux yet. Perhaps the following article found on "https://windowsarea.de/2016/12/microsoft-praezisionstouchpads- Werden-pflicht-unter-windows-10/" will bring some clarity to the matter. I quickly translated it with Google. Microsoft: Precision touchpad becomes mandatory for Windows 10 notebooks During the WinHEC conference in Taiwan, Microsoft announced that the precision touchpad will be mandatory in a later Windows update from the Windows hardware compatibility program. This means that manufacturers who do not install such touchpads will not receive certification for Windows. Manufacturers can still install Windows, but this certificate is simply missing. It's a step in the right direction, especially since Windows machines have long been known for their weak input devices. A lot has changed in the last few years, especially due to Microsoft's commitment. In Windows 10, for example, standard gestures were defined, which are mostly supported by the manufacturers. Precision touchpad ≠ good touchpad However, the fact that Microsoft will require a precision touchpad in the future does not mean that it has to be a good touchpad. “Precision touchpad” is basically just the term Microsoft uses to summarize those touchpads that communicate via the driver integrated in Windows. In other words: The touchpad options integrated in the settings can already be used for the touchpad from Redstone 2. Devices that use a proprietary Synaptics driver, for example, cannot be controlled with it. It doesn't matter whether the touchpad comes from Microsoft, Apple, Synaptics or a cheap Chinese village. As long as the manufacturer controls its touchpad via the Windows driver, it is a “precision touchpad” for Microsoft. The Trekstor SurfBook W1 uses the Windows driver and is therefore a “precision touchpad”, but the HP Specter x360 is a proprietary panel for the settings. The latter undoubtedly has the better quality unit, the only difference is that the precision touchpad can be configured in the Windows settings and the HP touchpad can only be configured using software specially written for it. a step in the right direction The fact that touchpads are to be configured exclusively via the Windows settings in the future is an important step. Users can find their way around it better and the use of a touchpad under Windows is also simplified.

Ok, I disabled systemd-resolved on my machine, following ... https://askubuntu.com/questions/907246/how-to-disable-systemd-resolved- in-ubuntu Network manager dns=default fixes the DNS lookup, which is now working along with the printer. [Bug 1729077] [NEW] wrong color of horizontally centered area of scan with CanoScan Lide 200
Public bug reported: This problem is 100% reproducable, also across reboots. On a Ubuntu 16.04 and 17.04 and Windows7 system the Scanner CanoScan Lide 200 works still completely fine. Problem with Ubuntu 17.10 : In a horizontally centered zone of about 1 centimeter width of the scan surface, over the full height of the surface, estimated 90% of the pixel values are completely wrong. The distribution of the wrong pixels in this zone appears random. With lineart and gray scan, the wrong pixels are black. With color scan, the wrong pixels are black or similar to red. The other pixels in the zone are a bit too bright. The effect is the same at all resolutions. See attached example snippets. The effect would continue vertically over the entire scan surface. The original was uniformly colored. The scanner worked again with Ubuntu 17.10 after purging sane- utils,libsane1,libsane-common (by overriding dependency-errors) and installing libsane-common_1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu4_all.deb libsane_1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu4_amd64.deb sane- utils_1.0.25+git20150528-1ubuntu4_amd64.deb (again by overriding dependency-errors) (and maybe re-plug scanner / reboot) Trying these versions had the same problem as default Ubuntu 17.10: archive.ubuntu.com : 1.0.27-1~experimental2ubuntu2.1, launchpad.net/~rolfbensch/+archive/ubuntu/sane-git : 1.0.27+git20171012-artful0 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: libsane1 1.0.27-1~experimental2ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-16.19-generic 4.13.4 Uname: Linux 4.13.0-16-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu3.1 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: XFCE Date: Tue Oct 31 20:48:39 2017 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-12-31 (670 days ago) InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 15.10 "Wily Werewolf" - Release amd64 (20151021) SourcePackage: sane-backends UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: sane-backends (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug artful ** Attachment added: "snippet of wrong scan. the effect would continue vertically over entire scan surface, and similar also bw and gray scans (affected pixels black)" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1729077/+attachment/5001380/+files/color_speckle.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1729077 Title: wrong color of horizontally centered area of scan with CanoScan Lide 200 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sane-backends/+bug/1729077/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1707306] [NEW] flashrom builds without libftdi because pkg-config command isn't a build-dep
Public bug reported: Problem: flashrom specifies libftdi1-dev as a build dependency. The build process is unable to detect the presence of this library without the pkg-config command being installed. What`s happened was, that after running the script first there was an update of the packages for 10.04, after this the first restart follows. Then I run the script again and it made a test to the python-version after this result it starts the update-manager to start the upgrade. Normally this works without any problems and the system should have to be restarted again and running the script one time more. But here it stops with two times the waring Failed to read the mirror file from the update-manager an information appears that some third-party sources are set inactive which could be activated later. Than it looks as if the new sources are installed. But instead of finishing this and go on downloading the updated files the information appears that an update was not possible because of the reason that there broken packages are held. But this is the point I am not familiar with and don't now how to go on solving this problem by myself. [Bug 872454] Re: akonadi complains about invalid maildir after fresh install
Same here. Kubuntu 12.04.2, KMail 4.8.5. Mail folder from filesystem was imported in Akonadi. When I create a new folder, it is present in file system and writeable. I can move a mail in this folder. It doesn't get deleted in the old folder, I can access it in both the old and the new folder. Only when I open the new folder, the error message appears: MailDir " for collection " is invalid. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to akonadi in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/872454 Title: akonadi complains about invalid maildir after fresh install To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/akonadi/+bug/872454/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1003821] [NEW] netbook speakers make white noise, when when a plug is in the headphone jack, instead being muted
Public bug reported: Netbook Dell Inspiron 910. Ubuntu 12.04, same problem with Ubuntu 11.10. When I put a plug in the headphone jack the netbook speakers shoud be switched off and be competly silent, but they make instead white noise. It makes no difference if it is a headphone or a connection cable for the stereo set. With Ubuntu 8.04, a special edition from Dell, which was installed on the netbook, the speakers were correctly muted when a plug was put in the headphone jack. With Ubuntu 8.04 from Dell everything works right. But I would like to use Ubuntu 12.04, because 8.04 is too old. With Ubuntu 12.04 the sound or music comes correctly from the netbook speakers. When I plug in a headphone the music comes from the headphones or when I plug in a connection cable the music comes from the stereo set and no longer the music comes from the netbook speakers. But my problem is that the netbook speakers are not silent when they are switched off, when I use the headphone jack. They play no longer the music, that is allright, but they start making white noise instead of being completly silent that is what don't like. ** Affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1003821 Title: netbook speakers make white noise, when when a plug is in the headphone jack, instead being muted To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1003821/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 580408] Re: Option 'No' at question 'Continue without installing GRUB?' does nothing. Forced to answer 'Yes'.
Just experienced this bug when updating a Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS server to grub-pc (1.98-1ubuntu13). Before finding myself in the endless loop when answering 'No' at question 'Continue without installing GRUB?' I was prompted by another screen asking me what to do regarding the modified /etc/default/grub file, where I have chosen to install the maintainer's version and then I reapplied my changes (and ran update-grub). Anyway, answering 'Yes' to get out of the otherwise endless 'Continue without installing GRUB?' loop, did not seem to have any adverse effect and the system booted properly. Right after that I updated another server, which I thought to be pretty similar. Surprisingly I was not prompted about what to do with the changed /etc/default/grub file and was also not prompted with the 'Continue without installing GRUB?' question. I can only speculate as to why I was not prompted: I already had 'GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="noquiet nosplash"' and no surrounding comments like on the other server ... just guessing here.
