Also I can confirm this annoying flashing has gone on Lubuntu 17.10.

[Bug 1574278] Re: AbiWord text cursor starts to flicker after adding some text

2017-07-18 Thread Henk Terhell
Your observation on the visual effects is likely the same as mine which I
reported as bug #1649001. However this was considered as a duplicate of
#1574278.
Focuswriter or LibreOffice Writer can be installed as suitable alternatives.

[Bug 1574278] Re: AbiWord text cursor starts to flicker after adding some text

2017-05-06 Thread Henk Terhell
I have experienced that Abiword cannot be used on plain Debian Stretch,
Lubuntu 17.04 and Xubuntu 17.04, all using gtk-3.22. Heavy flickering or
moving of paper borders occurs, which stops, together with disappearing
cursor, after about 8 seconds without activity. Changing the theme does
not have any effect.

[Bug 1484785] Re: language selector text cut off in abiword

2016-03-25 Thread Henk Terhell
I had a look at Manjaro LXDE 16.03 released a few days ago. This is
using Openbox 3.6.1. and Abiword 3.0.1 so the same as for Lubuntu
Xenial. This bug was not present in the live session. Checking the
version of Abiword in Manjaro LXDE there was no error message, but for
L. Xenial the attached error was shown. So maybe this bug is not an
Openbox nor Abiword issue.

I re-installed abiword (version 3.0.0-4ubuntu1.1) in Lubuntu 14.04 LTS but this

So either the update in abiword to 3.0.1-4 or the update in openbox (3.5.2-6 to

[Bug 1424362] Re: no permissions to install or remove packages with Lubuntu Software Center in LXDE as of Vivid Lubuntu Final Beta

2015-04-03 Thread Henk Terhell
I noticed the other day that in the live session amd64 of 20150401 all these
bugs did not happen but after the installation on disk these showed up.
Just also to remind that it is not only lsc failing to initiate authentication
request:
- synaptic will not start
- other video driver fails to install upon selection
- #1429531- no other user can be assigned

[Bug 1432843] Re: Lubuntu failed to boot

2015-03-25 Thread Henk Terhell
Not only this problem, but I also crashed a third L15.04 installation
(i386) after update. This update causes the system not being able to
restart or shut off, not even in terminal mode with commands halt,
shutdown or poweroff. After a hardware shutdown the system no longer
boots upon selection in grub.

I tried version 20150324.1 of i386 last night and again this failed to install.
I was able to install amd64 version of 20150324 on another PC but after
installation loading takes 2 minutes until login menu appears. In recovery
mode it shows: "a start up job is running for dev-disk".

[Bug 1429531] Re: users-admin cannot create a new user in Lubuntu

2015-03-24 Thread Henk Terhell
No, I installed xubuntu-desktop on top of Lubuntu 15.04 having bug
#1424362 and #1429531. This XFCE works w/o bugs since PolicyKit
Authentication Agent is ticked on by default. When manually ticking off,
these bugs also appear with XFCE DE. Meanwhile this installation has
crashed due to last night update and I will have to reinstall beta1
(daily do not work).

[Bug 1424362] Re: no permissions to install or remove packages in vivid daily lubuntu beta 1

2015-03-23 Thread Henk Terhell
In XFCE desktop (on L 15.04 as well as in regular Xubuntu 15.04) the
PolicyKit Authentication Agent is ticked on by default whereas this
never in any Lubuntu versions (going back to 14.04). Ticking this off in
XFCE (Session and Startup - Application Autostart) results in the same
faults i.e. absence of an authentication request of bugs
#1424362/#1429531 .

[Bug 1424362] Re: no permissions to install or remove packages in vivid daily lubuntu beta 1

2015-03-23 Thread Henk Terhell
I Installed now Xubuntu-desktop on L15.04 with bugs #1424362/#1429531 and this
resulted in a XFCE-session in which Lubuntu Software Center, Synaptic as well
as adding a user works OK. Switching back to LXDE, the bugs reappear.
Unfortunately LXQt can no longer be installed for trial on Lubuntu 15.04 as
error messages appear about broken packages or other problems.

Info for whatever it is worth : I have still one 32-bit and one 64-bit
installations of (what must be) alpha1 15.04 versions on different
machines, and both systems have been kept updated/upgraded. Both systems
run well and do not encounter this bug (and I have not ticked on
'PolicyKit Authentication Agent' in LXSession autostart).

I have tried to get an new daily build but this failed to install (see
bug #1432843)..

[Bug 1424362] Re: no permissions to install packages in vivid daily lubuntu beta 2

2015-02-25 Thread Henk Terhell
Just found the solution: Policykit Authentication Agent should be started

Obviously this is not switched on in these latest beta versions upon
installation. Now both Lubuntu Software center as well as Synaptic are OK on my

[Bug 1363408] Re: nvidia proprietary drivers are broken

2014-08-31 Thread Henk Terhell
Also I am facing a problem after updating the alpha version (which worked OK)
to beta version of Lubuntu 14.10 I no longer could get the desktop interface,
only a blank screen appeared after a few seconds of showing "Lubuntu 14.10" in
the centre of the screen.
Reinstalling Lubuntu14.10 beta on the same partition - after formatting -
resulted in the same problem. The initial GUI after reinstalling 14.10 beta
appeared in the normal way, but after changing the graphic driver to nvdia-304
and update/upgrade the Lubuntu GUI has failed to appear again.

>From the blank screen after booting, alt-F2 shows the option to login in
>terminal mode.
Following errors are shown upon login:

[ 154.944358] systemd-logind[908] Failed to start unit user1000.service:
Unknown unit: user@1000.service
[ 154.944432] systemd-logind[908] Failed to start unit user1000.service:
Unknown unit: user@1000.service

The command startx also failed to provide the GUI (see attachment
fout.txt)

[Bug 1306917] Re: light-locker: screen always automatically locked

2014-08-18 Thread Henk Terhell
I have this problem in Lubuntu 14.10. But on the same device in Lubuntu
14.04 light-locker can be switched off and then stays off.
