[Bug 986550] Re: Ubiquity crashes with Illegal instruction right after starting the slideshow

2012-08-08 Thread Hochhaltinger
I have a similar problem on my PC (AMD Duron 1800, 1,5 GB RAM, BIOS from 2003).
Maybe it's the same cause, maybe not, I don't know. Can you help me find out?
(BTW: this CPU _does_ support PAE, as I checked!)

The effect started after the last Oneiric / 11.10 kernel upgrade, just
a few weeks before Precise / 12.04 came out, approx. around March
2012.

Since I made this kernel upgrade certain things did stop working:

1) All auto-replace functionality in LibreOffice stopped at once,

2) The presentation of any (!) streaming video content is no longer possible,
both in Firefox and Chromium. Instead the video only an empty rectangle
appears,
no Flash message. Despite this it is still possible to download youtube movies
with the respective Add-On, but not to watch on screen. (I tried both Flash and
Gnash, no change).

3) Wine doesn't start any more.

4) Google Earth doesn't start any more

5) Stellarium doesn't work

Or, maybe, it is my graphics card that will not work with the new kernel:
It's a Sapphire Radeon 9000 Pro from ATI.

Can all these things have a common cause?
Who can give me a hint how to find out?

Thanks,

-ah-

[Bug 982349] [NEW] Gwibber: Konto-Erstellung unmöglich.

2012-04-15 Thread Hochhaltinger
Public bug reported:

Re: [Bug 969548] Re: Nautilus crashes by opening two or mode tabs

2012-04-02 Thread Hochhaltinger
Hi, Vadim

Sorry to disappoint you in this point, but at the time I wrote the
description of this bug Nautilus did _not_ crash. The description was
only a summary of what I experienced before ... many times!

Therefor this crash file (as I assume) will not be of any value to you,
picturing only a PC that runs well, while the respective crash occured
hours or days before.

One thing I forgot in my report: After all Nautilus instances once have
vanished, all it takes to go back to 'normal' is: to start one (!) new
instance of Nautilus ... and - Bingo! - the missing icons on the desktop
reappear, and everything is fine again.

I hope this will help you a little bit. If you have any other question
please feel free to send me an eMail at any time, I will try to answer
it as good as I can.

with regards from Austria

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
 apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open
the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash
is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't
allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
 /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 969548] [NEW] Nautilus crashes by opening two or mode tabs

2012-03-30 Thread Hochhaltinger
Public bug reported:

After opening a new folder in a new tab nautilus needs always a few
seconds to collect all data of this new directory (cursor shows rotating
symbol during this time).

If I open a third folder with another directory (by clicking on a
bookmarks entry) _during this period of reading directory 2_ (only
then!) nautilus simply disappears, together with _all_ other nautilus
instances running on this machine. And all desktop icons disappear
likewise - all in the same moment.

Otherwise: Opening a third tab somewhat later (after all previor
directories are ready read in and visible on display) causes no failure.

[Bug 587980] Re: UTF-8 File names in the rar archives are not readable

2011-06-06 Thread Hochhaltinger
WORKAROUND:
Use WinRAR under wine instead.
Works flawlessly even when you have special characters in the names of the
compressed files.

HINT: These characters appear in files when the compressed filenames use
the old Windows Caracter set instead of UTF-8.

These filenames use the Windows character set, and Ubuntu now uses
UTF-8.

WORKAROUND: Use WinRAR (under wine) to extract these archives - works
fine!

[Bug 314694] [NEW] At finishing BOTH windows should close at once

2009-01-07 Thread Hochhaltinger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

Just as a proposal:

When unpacking starts a second window appears to show the progress.
After finishing unpacking I see a button close.

(By the way: Could you make that change in the appearance of the small window a
little more singificant,
e.g. by changing the color or - even better - by hiding the (now no more
useful) progress bar?
It wound be quite helpful for older users who see not so good any more - like
me)

But let's go on with what bothers me:
As I click close, only the small window closes,
but the main window of the application goes on,
I have to close itmanually.

Nasty extra move, isn't it?

Why not close BOTH windows wneh I click at close?
