[Bug 923799] [NEW] Volume Control sets internal controllers badly, resulting in poor audio quality

2012-01-30 Thread Mario Hock
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 11.10
Codename: oneiric

Reproduce the problem:
1. Listen to music with headphones
2. Adjust volume to a reasonable level
3. Notice poor audio quality (noise, short "cracks" in the music)

Confirm / Work around:
4. run alsamixer
5. notice the "Headphone" controller on 100%
6. lower the "Headphone" controler a little (e.g. to 90%) and raise "Master"
instead
7. Listen to music with the same volume as in the beginning but with good
quality.

Suggestion:
The volume control (I guess the pulse-audio volume controller) should avoid
setting internal controllers to 100%.

Its certainly very useful. I found that a lot of time, I need to access
one of the many same application(such as terminal) and all it either all
pop up or go into the "aero-peek" view to select it after the first
click.

Win7 did that very well and can even allow closing of the app from the
aero peek.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-notifier

I was using natty beta 2 when I notice a slow down and obv using top that
update-apt-xapi is taking up 100% of cpu.
Search through the web and release that it could be the update-manager.

I was not using update manger or Synaptic at that time. Should'nt the
update-manager get update quietly behind the scene?

funny thing for me was if my other partition was lucid/maverick, it can
be detected. But if I have two partitions of natty, it does detect each

2010-10-05 Thread Mario Hock
I wonder about that, too.

I just checked that on ubuntu 10.04. Surprisingly it also claims to be
able of 1360x768. But on 10.04 1280x800 is chosen by default. I suppose
the only difference is another heuristic in 10.10 which chooses
1360x768..

Thanks for your assistance.

[Bug 654170] Re: screen remains blank after boot / wrong resolution

2010-10-05 Thread Mario Hock
Hi, I just added the files you asked for. Hope this helps solving the
bug.

Unfortunately I discovered some kind of partial blanking of the screen
while scrolling or moving windows. I suppose this it another bug, but I
wanted to mention it.

Thank you.

[Bug 366060] Re: [SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD R50/R51] suspend/resume failure (ati x700)

2010-02-19 Thread Mario Hock
Still the same on the new kernel.

By the way: If I suspendet from Console (Alt-Ctrl-F1) I can (blind) type
"sudo reboot" and it reboots. But the display stays black (until I'm
back in the bios). Suspend from X11 seems to hang the system on wakeup.

If you need further information or testing, please ask.

[Bug 366060] Re: [SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD R50/R51] suspend/resume failure (ati x700)

2010-02-15 Thread Mario Hock
At first, I'm using Karmic now.
Hibernate works fine. The problems occurs only when wake up from suspend (to
ram).

Did the machine break while going to sleep or waking up?
 - On wakeup. The Display remains black. (Lights-Off) The kernel seems not to
hang or panic.

Is it reproducible?
 - 100% :-(

Did it work before?
- As said, when using fglrx instead of the open source ati driver, suspension
worked fine.

Do you end up with flashing caps-lock or similar?
- sometimes - - [Del] or even reboot [enter] worked

Please ask if you need more information.
Thank you for working on this bug report.
