[Bug 495127] Re: Shutdown/restart dialogs make it unclear whether people should wait

2010-02-16 Thread Hongli Lai
@maxauthority: some early versions of Windows Vista shut down
immediately when one presses the computer's shutdown button, with no
confirmation. I had an acquaintance who had a laptop with such a Windows
version. Guess what his friends do to play pranks on him? They quickly
press his computer's shutdown button while he's still typing a document.

[Bug 264196] Re: [intrepid] keyboard Repeat Keys is failing to adjust

2009-02-27 Thread Hongli Lai
I confirm that this bug occurs on Ubuntu 8.10 on a Dell Inspiron 6400
laptop. It has not yet been fixed in Jaunty alpha 5.

[Bug 295560] Re: Hardware and software don't agree on brightness level

2009-01-22 Thread Hongli Lai
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400, and I confirm this bug after a day of
debugging gnome-power-manager. Both gnome-power-manager and the
kernel/BIOS/something-that-is-not-gnome-power-manager try to change the
brightness when I press the brightness keyboard keys.

How about adding a HAL property that indicates whether the BIOS controls
the backlight, and have gnome-power-manager not adjust the backlight
(and let the BIOS do it) if this property is true?

[Bug 285285] Re: GtkFileChooser dialog size randomly broken

2009-01-21 Thread Hongli Lai
It seems I spoke too soon. The file dialog's size reverts to being small
after closing Firefox. The behavior is strange:

1. Start Firefox.
2. Open file dialog in Firefox. This has the correct size.
3. Start gedit.
4. Open file dialog in Gedit. This has the correct size.

5. Close Firefox.
6. Close gedit.
7. Start gedit.
8. Open file dialog in Gedit. This has the incorrect size.

[Bug 285285] Re: GtkFileChooser dialog size randomly broken

2009-01-21 Thread Hongli Lai
Very strange. The file dialog in Firefox instantly resized to a correct
size. Apparently GTK saved this size so all my other GTK applications'
file dialogs now appear to have the correct size. The only annoyance
left is that I can see the file dialog resizing, but this is a minor
issue.

directhex, I don't know whether your patch works but you solved my
problem anyways. :) Email me your Paypal account and I'll give you a
donation.

[Bug 285285] Re: GtkFileChooser dialog size randomly broken

2009-01-21 Thread Hongli Lai
By the way, I think this qualifies as a regression. I experience this
problem on a clean Ubuntu 8.10 install.

In the mean while, people are making a huge fuss about this at
http://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/7r9dg/what_use_is_a_file_chooser_dialogue_when_the_area/
This Reddit post attracted *329* comments, 90% of them negative comments
against GTK.

[Bug 285285] Re: GtkFileChooser dialog size randomly broken

2009-01-21 Thread Hongli Lai
I think the bug fix should be backported to Intrepid. Although it is
cosmetic, the dialog is as good as unusable unless the user resizes it.
On top of that, this bug is something that users encounter multiple
times on a daily basis.

Would an Ubuntu packager accept a donation to get this fix backported?

[Bug 156256] Language Support should install myspell dictionaries

2007-10-23 Thread Hongli Lai
Public bug reported:

I'm Dutch and I need Dutch spell checking. If I install Dutch support
through the Language Support administration tool, it will install things
like the Dutch aspell dictionary, but not the Dutch myspell dictionary.
This latter package is required for Dutch spell checking in Thunderbird.
Language Support should install myspell dictionaries as well.

** Affects: language-selector (Ubuntu)
