[Bug 316252] Re: Unable to retrieve MSN Address Book
This bug seems to be fixed on its own. The pidgin devs were right- seems like it really was an MSN server outage. [Bug 288948] Re: upload extremely slow with iwl3945 (regression intrepid)
The latest version (as of Jan 7 '09) of iwl3945 from the compat-wireless project seems to fix this. On another person's open wireless network: Intrepid's version: up: 1.0 MBit/s, down: 3.7 MBit/s compat-wireless version: up: 3.1 MBit/s, down: 2.7 MBit/s Seems to be much better. However, I couldn't test on my own wireless network because compat-wireless's iwl3945 simply wouldn't connect to my WPA2 network. I hope that'll be fixed so we can get some concrete results. -- upload extremely slow with iwl3945 (regression intrepid) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288948 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 288948] Re: upload extremely slow with iwl3945 (regression intrepid)
Hello there! I have exactly the same problem. According to iperf, my computer has an upload speed of about 4MBits / sec. That means about 500Kbytes/sec. However, all other computers have an upload speed of about 10 Mbits/sec. The interesting thing is that download speed is right where it should be, 10 Mbits/sec. Perhaps this is because acknowledging the packets when they arrive takes far less bandwidth than sending them? For what it's worth, I'm running a Linksys WRT54G Wireless G network. My surrounding environment is pretty crowded with other networks, but it's interesting because other hosts do not experience this slowdown. To show that this is a wireless issue, I used iperf to do a little digging in different network configurations. The numbers are from memory, but I believe they're reasonably accurate. WPA2, wireless: Up: ~4MBit/s, down: ~10Mbit/s Moving right next to the router: Up: ~7Mbit/s, down: ~11Mbit/s Open wireless: Up: ~7Mbit/s, down: ~12Mbit/s Hardwired to the router, all other hosts wireless: Up: ~24Mbit/s, down: ~26Mbit/s If somebody'd like, I can re-run the tests and give you exact results. -- upload extremely slow with iwl3945 (regression intrepid) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/288948 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 263555] Re: [intrepid] 2.6.27 e1000e driver places Intel ICH8 and ICH9 gigE chipsets at risk
Hey guys, Let's use this bug tracker to get the problem fixed. Can we please keep the discussion of whether or not to pull the CD image to the forums or mailing lists? This is a place to talk about the bug *itself* and how to get the bug *itself* fixed, not to discuss the implications of this bug. I bet we can get this dilemma fixed MUCH faster if we stop pointing fingers, stop bickering about what to do with the CD image, and start hacking. Why do I say this? Nicorac posted a link to the Linux Kernel Mailing list. I'll repost it here so you don't have to scroll up: http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/10/1/368 >From the page: "Currently we (Intel Ethernet) are reproducing the issue on multiple machines in house, we are working on the issue with the other core Linux teams here at Intel and within the community. No resolution yet but we are much closer now. Later we will post patches to help users who have had this problem restore their eeprom from either a saved image from ethtool -e or from another identical system." This means that your hardware is NOT permanently bricked. When someone writes the Lazarus program to resurrect your NIC from the dead, everything will be OK and your computer will return to normal. So, because your hardware is not permanently in danger, let's focus on getting the bug fixed now before 8.10 ships and clean up the aftermath later. -- [intrepid] 2.6.27 e1000e driver places Intel ICH8 and ICH9 gigE chipsets at risk https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/263555 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 263555] Re: [intrepid] 2.6.27 e1000e driver places Intel ICH8 and ICH9 gigE chipsets at risk
If we don't pull the images (we should, but I won't comment since it's already being discussed), it might be a good idea to at least make the words "permanently inoperable" on the Alpha 6 testing page in big, bold letters so users have less of a chance to skim over that part. Think about it: How many times do we read warning labels on the stuff we eat? My point exactly. Having a "WARNING" section on a testing page where people are already expecting things not to work perfectly might not be an accurate indicator of exactly how grave this problem really is. I think we should do everything in our power to at least let users know what they're dealing with here. Somehow, we've managed to produce a stick of dynamite with a lit fuse. A lot of people are expecting testing images to be imperfect and may skip right over the warning section because they already know the typical "This is just alpha software, hopefully nothing major will happen" lecture that warning sections typically give them. Making "permanently inoperable" in bold letters will make it much more eye-catching than it is now. -- [intrepid] 2.6.27 e1000e driver places Intel ICH8 and ICH9 gigE chipsets at risk https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/263555 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 178400] Re: [Hardy] Xorg high CPU usage with 2.6.24 kernel and nvidia-glx
Hey all! I've browsed through the NVIDIA Linux forums, namely this thread: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=114858 and have come to some reasonable conclusions based on what I found there. 1. Firefox uses XRender to display pages now 2. NVIDIA cards are slow with xrender: http://www.larsen-b.com/Article/290.html Possibly meaning that because of a bug in the NVIDIA driver, XRender does some work it shouldn't have to and therefore spikes in CPU usage. Does gnome-terminal use xrender as well? That could explain its poor performance as well. Also: 3. People who experience this bug will have poor scrolling speed (with at least Firefox) in pages like http://www.tuaw.com/ and http://shame.tuxfamily.org/repo/?cat=1 4. According to http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=1693884&postcount=40 , NVIDIA knows about the problem. They have created a fix, but it simply hasn't been released yet. They say that the fix "... will be available in a future driver release."
