[Bug 1618041] Re: Cannot login to Ubuntu One Single Sign-On Account to install Snaps

2016-10-16 Thread IKT
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1616943 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1616943

I'm not sure why this was marked as a duplicate of "Ubuntu Software asks
for an Ubuntu Single Sign-On account to install/remove a snap", as there
is no problem with the software centre asking for a login.

The problem is that the login component of it isn't working, the
original description could not be clearer of the problem:

I keep getting "Incorrect email or password" even though I know for a
fact the email and password are correct. I am able to sign into Ubuntu
One just fine on a web browser.

it definitely appears to happen a few minutes after a wake from suspend,
but there's nothing in the logs worth noticing.

[Bug 1257186] Re: memory leakage messages

2014-07-20 Thread IKT
@doliveira

Samba version is currently 4.0, the fix is intended to be released apart
of the Samba 4.1 release.

Samba 4.1 may be released as an update to Ubuntu 14.04 or the Ubuntu
devs may take just the memory leak patch and put it into 4.0 and then
put that through as an update.

Either way unless you manually download and compile the latest test
release of Samba 4 it's going to be a while yet before it's in the
package you get from apt-get install samba

[Bug 1290228] Re: Ubuntu Software Center reports Package operation Failed

2014-03-22 Thread IKT
I'm also on 14.05 and this is definitely looking like a bug, I've had
this happen multiple times now on packages I know are good.

I can easily skirt around the issue by using sudo dpkg -i package.deb
but the USC should not be failing like this.

Removing GDM and moving to USC.

Still not fixed in 12.04.2.

Debian asked this question:

is serious business too and shouldn't be reused or modified without

[Bug 124440] Re: Ubuntu needs a way to set mouse scrolling speed

2013-03-04 Thread IKT
@G9283 (b8732)

Yes, that's how bug reports work, when no one is interested in them,
they are left to rot, in a non-public company bugs are fixed based on
how heavily they impact to users and what those users are trying to do
with it, if they don't impact the program heavily enough, they don't get
fixed, which is basically the same thing here, except we have the
freedom to contribute a fix to a bug that affects us.

@seb128 could people stop arguing about bug settings, adding a new
option is defined as wishlist it doesn't mean it will not be worked on
or that it's a low priority

Actually that is the definition of wishlist:

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wish%20list

a list of desired but often realistically unobtainable items

So what is the point of a bug being on a wishlist? It's saying 'this bug
is desired to be fixed, but unlikely to be', it is low priority and bugs
that take 6 years to even be looked at generally are low priority, so
I'm not arguing, I'm stating a fact.

@Paul Somebody

in this OS mistakes and shortcomings are always rectified quickly

This isn't something that should be advocated, issues can be rectified
quickly but I wouldn't say 'always', in fact if we go back to before
Ubuntu was based on Unity and was based on Gnome, issues were almost
never rectified quickly.

Anyway lets all hold hands and pray to zeus the 100 paper cuts team can
fix this issue. Good luck team :-)

[Bug 124440] Re: Ubuntu needs a way to set mouse scrolling speed

2013-02-17 Thread IKT
Well currently the bug has 4 statuses:

Fix Released
Invalid
Invalid
Triaged

Both Fix Released and Triaged have importance set to wishlist, along
with this not being an ubuntu issue, but a gnome issue, the chances of
this getting fixed or implemented by Canonical are close to zero, you
would be better off attempting to throw money at a developer, (most
likely a gnome developer) to implement this.

Just my 2c.

[Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher

2012-06-13 Thread IKT
they seem to be doing quite a good job in many cases

They're not, the windows ui is HORRIBLE, take a look a the control panel
for that mess, have you ever had to actually support people doing things
with it?

and are popular for a reason.

That's a fallacy, known as argumtum ad populum, by the same standard all
high quality restaurants should coat everything in grease and fat and
oil because hey, McDonalds is popular therefore it is good thing to do.

http://arstechnica.com/uncategorized/2007/06/product-loyalty-consumers-
mistake-familiarity-with-superiority/

This is not a race to the bottom, also what happened to open source, is
there really no one out there who has the skills to move the icons from
one side of the screen to the other?

[Bug 880274] Re: will not update using 8.10

2011-11-13 Thread IKT
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

terminal type startupmanager

[Bug 885665] Re: Can't print or scan Lexmark z617 only available for microsoft

2011-11-05 Thread IKT
Hi there!

If your computers recovery discs aren't working you'll need to contact
your PC's manufacturer as they should work and should re-install the
computer to its original state.

Maybe consider talking to your daughters boyfriend in regards to helping
you out using the system as your computer should be capable of the
things you mentioned, for example with your music not being able to play
I'm not quite sure why this is happening as this is something us 20
million ubuntu users do all the time, and I have music playing 24x7.

Do you get any error messages when you try and play your music?

In regards to using your scanner and printer are you able to advise
which make and model they are?

Thanks

- ikt

[Bug 558674] Re: Open file dialog malfunctions in lucid

2011-10-28 Thread IKT
Pausanias, we get it, here's the issue as I see it and I'll best
'transcribe' it for non-computer scientists ;)

1) 2010-04-09

Stephen makes the original bug report.

2) 2010-05-01

Luke Plant confirms the bug is present in GTK2.0

3) 2010-10-11

Tristan Moody reports the bug upstream with Gnome, as they are the
developers of the GTK software, therefore they are the ones who would be
best equipped to fix it

4) 2010-10-24

André Klapper (A Gnome developer) advises that he can't replicate the
bug, and therefore can't fix the issue. He then requests someone try GTK
2.22.

5) 2010-10-27

Tristan Moody reports that it appears that the bug is fixed in 2.22

--
At this stage there is no patch for the bug, therefore there is nothing to
simply throw down the update pipe. This is the issue, if there was a patch for
the bug we wouldn't be having this convo, the issue would have been fixed long
ago.

But because the Gnome developer couldn't find the bug in 2.0, this bug
never existed in Gnome's world in the first place.

I mean the Gnome Developer (André Klapper) response could have been don't
care, go away because nobody got anything useful out of it except that the bug
they couldn't find is apparently fixed in GTK 2.2
--

6) 2011-11-29

Ikt runs across the bug from reddit :D

--

If there isn't a regular Ubuntu dev, whether paid or volunteer, who
recognizes how important this bug is, then I give up on Ubuntu.

There's lots of people who do realise how important it is, however
there's a few who don't understand the reason why Ubuntu simply haven't
fixed the bug, I mean it's fixed in 2.22, so just update to 2.22
already!

I think part of the issue is understanding just how big a package GTK
is, and just how unhappy many people would be if Ubuntu sent down the
update and broke the entire desktop, which co-incidentally uses GTK for
the majority of it.

if you do recognize how important this bug is to fix, but lack the
willingness to put your expertise into use for 2 minutes to follow that
procedure

That's the problem, it's not a 2 minute fix because there's no patch.

So here are the options since we have no patch:

a) leave as is, a bug that affects a few people, and I mean 'a few' in a
nice way, a bug that affects just 1 person (ie me) sucks (Hi #873016 :)
), and having it effect 30 is worse, but even medium level bugs affect
50%+ of users, and that's not indicated here.

b) send down GTK2.22 as a gigantic update that may break the critical
applications and make 90%+ very unhappy.

That is as is my understanding of the options on the table, if anyone
has any corrections I'm happy to be hear them.

And yes many of us are well aware of the limitations of the linux
desktop and are working on changing this, unfortunately this doesn't
help now :(

Hope this helps. :-)

[Bug 871640] Re: major performance regression in combination with 3D Apps

2011-10-18 Thread IKT
Is there any chance of confirming whether the performance regressions
are caused by unity, compiz, 3d drivers or the kernel?

[Bug 875291] Re: Botched upgrade

2011-10-18 Thread IKT
Thanks for the comments, most of the time an upgrade isn't recommended
and a fresh install is better, if you get the chance I do recommend a
fresh install as it tends to fix most upgrade issues.

If you're looking for stability I would suggest it's best sticking to
the stable release aka LTS releases.

With regards to this bug report you haven't actually reported any
information at all, so I have no idea if you have a problem your
graphics card, or compiz or even the kernel.

The other thing is that the people who are in control of ubuntu aren't
going to see what you've written here, just little old me ikt the bug
triage guy, for the best result I'd make a post here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=103

thanks.
