Public bug reported:

Emacs menu is not being updated correctly in Unity. For example if I

expected.

[Bug 666633] Re: Unable to Connect to Garmin eTrex Using Usb to Serial

2010-10-28 Thread Ian Barton
I don't think that this is a gpsbabel bug. Versions of gpsbabel that
shipped with Lucid show the same bug. Unfortunately, syslog and messages
don't provide any information. I suspect that it is either a bug in the
usb to serial driver or the kernel. If anyone can tell me how I can
provide more debug information, I'll happily do it.

Note changed package to linux-kernel-headers as there doesn't seem to be
a pacakge I can find either for the kernel of kernel drivers.

** Package changed: gpsbabel (Ubuntu) = linux-kernel-headers (Ubuntu)

[Bug 666633] [NEW] Unable to Connect to Garmin eTrex Using Usb to Serial

2010-10-26 Thread Ian Barton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gpsbabel

I am not sure exactly where this bug is located. Here is a summary of
the problem:

I am trying to connect mu Garmin eTrex via a usb to serial connector and
download tracks. The usb to serial uses a well known chip set and is
corrected detected:

Oct 22 07:44:16 scamper kernel: [ 1068.953367] usb 5-1: pl2303 converter now
attached to ttyUSB0
Oct 22 07:48:57 scamper kernel: [ 1350.542746] usb 5-1: USB disconnect, address
7
Oct 22 07:48:57 scamper kernel: [ 1350.543003] pl2303 ttyUSB0: pl2303 converter
now disconnected from ttyUSB0
Oct 22 07:48:57 scamper kernel: [ 1350.543038] pl2303 5-1:1.0: device
disconnected
Oct 22 07:49:31 scamper kernel: [ 1384.472677] usb 5-1: new full speed USB
device using uhci_hcd and address 8
Oct 22 07:49:31 scamper kernel: [ 1384.633321] pl2303 5-1:1.0: pl2303 converter
detected
Oct 22 07:49:31 scamper kernel: [ 1384.646366] usb 5-1: pl2303 converter now
attached to ttyUSB0

Now I try to download the waypoints using gpsbabel:

sudo gpsbabel -i garmin -f /dev/ttyUSB0 -o gpx -F waypoints.gpx

This doesn't return any errors, but just hangs waiting for data until I
hit ctlr-C. I have tried setting the interface on the Garmin to Garmin
and NMEA. I have also tried using gpsd, but still not managed to
connect to the eTrex.. I have also tried connecting using gpsd with the
same results.

Now if I try on the same computer running Maverick using Windows XP
running under Virtual Box, I can connect to the eTrex. If I install
Lucid on the computer, I can connect to the eTrex with no problem. I get
similar results on another computer runing Maverick. So this seems to
point to a problem with the usb to serial driver, or the kernel.

Ian.

[Bug 650670] Re: mplayer stops ogg streaming, repeating Cache not filling!

2010-10-19 Thread Ian Barton
I am getting a similar problem trying to dump a real player stream. The
command I am using is:

mplayer -nojoystick -nolirc -prefer-ipv4 -playlist
http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/asx/b00vc2d8/iplayer_intl_stream_wma_uk_concrete
-ao pcm:file=/home/ian/mp3/$FILE.wav -vc dummy -vo null

This is from the BBC Listen Again service, so the stream url will only
be valid for 7 days it anyone wants to test it.

This works fine on Lucid, but I get Cache not filling errors when
using Maverick. I don't know if it's related to this similar error:

http://www.spinics.net/lists/mplayer-users/msg02781.html

I found on the mplayer mailing list.

[Bug 611226] Re: Dovecot-common Install Error

2010-07-30 Thread Ian Barton
Antonio,

It is a DNS error. Let me explain what I have done. I am using a pre-
built xen image from http://stacklet.com/

Download stacklet for Ubuntu lucid X64. Create a xen instance using the
image and login:

r...@ubuntu:~# hostname
ubuntu
r...@ubuntu:~# hostname -f
ubuntu.bantercat.co.uk

OK so that works as expected.

Now do a apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade, which installs a new
EC2 kernel.

r...@ubuntu:~# hostname
ubuntu
r...@ubuntu:~# hostname -f
hostname: Name or service not known
r...@ubuntu:~#

In /etc/hostname I have just ubuntu. This happens using either DHCP, or
a static IP. I am running bind9 on one of my servers and I am pretty
confident that my DNS is OK. Note that hostname -f works fine on all
other computers in my network.

So it looks as though it's something to do with the kernel which is:

r...@ubuntu:~# uname -r
2.6.32-305-ec2

[Bug 611226] [NEW] Dovecot-common Install Error

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dovecot-common

I am trying to install dovecot-imapd on a computer runming the following
kernel: 2.6.32-305-ec2. I get the following errors:

r...@xenmail:~# dpkg --configure dovecot-common

dpkg: error processing dovecot-common (--configure):

I have xenmail.wilkesley.net in /etc/hosts. It looks as though the
postinst script is failing somehow.

Running dpkg --reconfigure dovecot-common gives the same error.

After a bit of googling I found that I can install without errors if I
first add the Dovecot security certificates to /etc/ssl/certs and
/etc/private/ssl manually.

I had the same problem with the default Karmic install of syslinux.
However, when I installed the ppa version it seems to be fixed.

This is now resolved. I installed the latest BIOS, which fixed the
problem. I haven't tried this before as it involves re-installing Vista
and Lenovo's BIOS updater only runs under Vista.

[Bug 481193] [NEW] Karmic Lenovo N200 Boot Problem

2009-11-12 Thread Ian Barton
Public bug reported:

I have done a clean install of Karmic on my Lenovo N200 an applied all
the updates. When I boot the process reaches a point early on when it
displays:

Resume device

This appears to be just before usb initiialization. At this point the
computer just switches off. If I reboot and try to use therecovery
console, the same things happen. After three or four attempts the system
will boot OK. Once it's booted it is stable. The same thing happens
intermittently if I try to boot from a Live CD.

I have looked through dmesg an the boot logs, but can see anything
obvious. The same computer had worked fine previous versions of Ubuntu,
so I don't think it's a hardware fault.

[Bug 451033] [NEW] Karmic Beta Black Screen with nvidia-glx-180

2009-10-14 Thread Ian Barton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-180

I am testing Karmic on my Lenovo laptop. I applied all the latest
updates and then tried to install the nvidia driver using Hardware
Drivers. I chose the recommended nvidia-glx-180, which is currently
working fine with Jaunty. When I reboot shortly after the Ubuntu logo
appears I get a black screen. I can't access a terminal via Alt-Ctrl-F1,
so can't get any furhter info about what went wrong.

lspci shows 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72M
[Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300] (rev a1)

I have a disk image before I tried to install the nvidia driver, so if
anyone can suggest a method of collecting more information, I can roll
back to this image and try again.

Apologies if this bug gets submitted twice, but Launchpad crashed on the
first attempt.

I am using the version of python-twitter included with Jaunty.

This appears to have already been reported upstream as
http://code.google.com/p/python-twitter/issues/detail?id=14 and a fix
committed. However, I am not sure if the fix is present in my version of
python-twitter in Ubuntu Jaunty, which is reported as 0.5-2.

I have all the Intrepid faac libs installed, so I think the error is
probably due to ffmpeg.

Thanks, that does work. Howeverm if you just click the arrow. rather

IMHO this is a useability/interface bug. A single click should open the
