[Bug 2055351] Re: [amdgpu] Firefox and Chromium browser windows are corrupt in Xorg
After kernel + x.org updates this week, firefox is now displaying properly using xserver-xorg on the Athlon 200GE. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2055351 Title: [amdgpu] Firefox and Chromium browser windows are corrupt in Xorg To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/2055351/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2055351] Re: [amdgpu] Firefox and Chromium browser windows are corrupt in Xorg
Similar hardware: R7 240 graphics card (previous generation graphics cores) on Athlon 200GE: everything works fine on X11 Plugged SSD from Athlon install into 5600G (Vega 6 graphics instead of Vega 3): everything works fine on X11. So it seems to be something weird about Vega 3 graphics in relation to amdgpu & xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu. I don't speak Git, but I am happy to download, compile, and test anything you would like me to if you don't have access to matching hardware.

It is similar but not identical. I just updated Snap, Firefox, and Chromium, and, currently, Firefox with hardware acceleration works fine using wayland, but not X11. Firefox without hardware acceleration works on either. I am attaching a screenshot of unaccelerated Firefox beside (corrupted) accelerated Chromium on X11. I will do another apport-collect 2055351 as the versions have changed. ** Attachment added: "Unaccelerated Firefox beside accelerated Chromium on X11.jpg" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu/+bug/2055351/+attachment/5753641/+files/Unaccelerated%20Firefox%20beside%20accelerated%20Chromium%20on%20X11.jpg ** Description changed: I downloaded the 22.04.4 iso and did a fresh install on an AMD Athlon 200GE using built-in graphics. (Radeon™ Vega 3 Graphics) Firefox and Chromium browsers had their windows corrupted to the point where they were unreadable. I think this is an xorg bug, because when I installed Wayland and logged in with a Wayland session, the browsers displayed correctly. Same behaviour with an Athlon 220GE. KDE or Ubuntu's Gnome desktop made no difference - it seemed to be xorg vs Wayland that was the critical difference. --- ProblemType: Bug ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu82.5 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CasperMD5CheckResult: unknown CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: jammy DistroRelease: Ubuntu 22.04 DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [Bug 2055351] Re: firefox screen corruption on Athlon 200GE after fresh installation of 22.04.4
screenshot of firefox when launched under X11 ** Attachment added: "Firefox corruption.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/2055351/+attachment/5750559/+files/Firefox%20corruption.png ** Description changed: I downloaded the 22.04.4 iso and did a fresh install on an AMD Athlon 200GE using built-in graphics. [Bug 420960] Re: Karmic Alpha 4 playback stops when playing media stored on samba share
Just an update - this bug is still present in the released version of Kubuntu 9.10 i386 (booted off a USB stick to make sure that user settings are not affecting behavior). In my system, playback stops very close to 5 minutes from starting. Booting off a USB version of Ubuntu 9.10 i386 works fine and plays media indefinitely with no problem. Media server upgraded to Kubuntu 9.10 i386 today with no change in behavior. In case it is relevant, directories are shared from the server with no password, read only, guest ok - I'm not sure whether this is any help. Any advice on how to come up with more useful logs or other information for debugging purposed would be greatly appreciated. Hi Chuck, The log (from the server PC) referring to samba access from my Karmic test PC "ian-bedroom" is attached - I just uncommented the name resolve order line (in smb.conf) and restarted samba, and the /var/log/samba/log.smbd file reads as follows: [2009/10/23 09:23:39, 0] smbd/server.c:main(1260) smbd version 3.3.2 started. Copyright Andrew Tridgell and the Samba Team 1992-2009 I also repeated the copy ~9GB of files to the test PC after restarting samba, so the difference in before/after the change is visible. On the client PC, the glitch affected file 21 rather than files 13 and 14 - so it appears that the glitches are becoming less frequent. Playing a media file glitched after 10 rather than 5 minutes just now - another 3-4 doublings of the time to glitch and it will seem solved ;-) I hope this helps, Ian Mackenzie ** Attachment added: "log.ian-bedroom" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34177815/log.ian-bedroom -- Karmic Alpha 4 playback stops when playing media stored on samba share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420960 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kaffeine in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 420960] Re: Karmic Alpha 4 playback stops when playing media stored on samba share
This problem still seems to be there in Kubuntu Karmic Alpha 6 - although the mean time before playback glitch on my system is now closer to 20 minutes than 5. I installed a fresh copy of Kubuntu Karmic Alpha 6, installed libxine1 -all-plugins, and tried to play the 720p .mkv file from a network share. It played fine for ~20 minutes, then kaffeine stopped playing. I then set up a static IP in /etc/network/interfaces and pointed /etc/resolv.conf at OpenDNS, and ran: sudo ifdown eth0 sudo ifup eth0 sudo service network-manager stop from a command prompt. Unfortunately the glitch is still there, but timing seems less predictable now. Is there a way for me so see whether DHCP3 is still running and stop it if it is? [Bug 425526] Re: Kubuntu Karmic i386 Alpha 5 network copy/stream from samba share glitch approximately every 5 minutes
1. To reproduce this problem: Boot off a Kubuntu Karmic Alpha 5 CD or USB (Ubuntu Karmic Alpha 5 does not have this bug) Attempt to play a media file off a shared drive on the local network (open Dolphin, type "smb:\\10.1.1.2\docos" (no quotes) into address bar, navigate to directory using the mouse, click on media file to launch media player & play media) 2. Expected Behavior: Media player (Kaffeine) launches, Media plays until the end of the media NB: Plugins may need to be installed to play media 3. Behavior actually encountered: Media player (Kaffeine) launches, NB: Plugins may need to be installed to play media Media stops before end of media (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kaffeine/+bug/420960 for another description of this problem) - High bitrate media (eg 720p .mkv video) seems to stop faster than low bitrate media - If Samba is not the correct package to file this bug under, could you please suggest a more appropriate one? Thanks, Ian Mackenzie PS: The behavior has been duplicated on another motherboard/CPU/Memory combination, so it is probably not specific to my hardware. -- Kubuntu Karmic i386 Alpha 5 network copy/stream from samba share glitch approximately every 5 minutes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/425526 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I made another attempt at reporting a related bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/425526 - Having looked at Tommy's comment, I tried killing the networkmanager process, and playback problems have gone - a 720p .mkv file (2.2GB for ~50 minutes) which would only play about 5 minutes at a time is now playing perfectly. - I am using a static IP for my network card and a manually set up /etc/resolv.conf pointing to OpenDNS for nameserving. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: samba Updated as at approximately 4am 7th September 2009 GMT When playing media from a Samba share, about 5 minutes (this varies) will play and then stop. This happens with both MP3 files and MP4 videos (TED talks) When copying several GB of files from a samba share to locally, the copying stalls with a message along the lines of "Cannot locate file "smb://10.1.1.2/Docos/TED/blah.MP4" and offers a dialog to skip, autoskip, or cancel. In this case, there is a partial file (size varies - it could be ~18MB or ~170MB of a 240MB file) in the destination directory. Copying just the file if failed to copy and pasting it into the directory works fine, even while the original operation continues. I have updated the BIOS, added a different ethernet card, swapped cables, and tried a 100MBit rather than Gigabit switch, and it makes no difference. [Bug 424624] [NEW] Nvidia nonfree driver 173 will not install on Karmic Alpha 5
Public bug reported: Fresh install on Karmic Alpha 5 - AGP FX5200 NVIDIA video card detected, suggests installing the non-free driver, when you try to activate it, it downloads the driver, but installation fails at the DKMS step. On restart, X fails to load, as /etc/X11/xorg.conf has been modified to use driver "nvidia", without a successful install of the driver. To start X, manual editing to use driver "nv" instead is necessary. ** Affects: dkms (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Nvidia nonfree driver 173 will not install on Karmic Alpha 5 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/424624 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 420960] [NEW] Karmic Alpha 4 playback stops when playing media stored on samba share
Public bug reported: Kubuntu Karmic Alpha 4 - updated packages as at 28/9 August 2009 Kaffeine, when playing a file (eg, MP4 TED Talk) from a samba share on a networked PC, stops playback, losing it's place in the file. The same file, copied to the local PC, plays perfectly, with no interruptions or problems. This seems to happen on many types of media, MP4, .flv, avi etc. Kaffeine is launched for this by opening up the shared directory in Dolphin, and clicking on the file, if that's any use. ** Affects: kaffeine (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Karmic Alpha 4 playback stops when playing media stored on samba share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420960 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 420915] [NEW] ubuntu karmic alpha 4 wireless keyboard not recognised on grub menu and PC waits indefinitely for menu choice
Public bug reported: Running Kubuntu Alpha4 i386, I updated packages last night, and a new kernel was installed. The Keyboard is a Logitech Deluxe 650 Cordless Desktop - it works fine in the BIOS, and there is also a Bluetooth keyboard (Logitech DeNovo Mini) attached. Neither of them would allow use of the cursor keys or Enter key, and Grub was waiting for input which I could not provide - ie, it had set its timeout to -1. When I plugged in a PS/2 keyboard and rebooted, it worked fine. Once X started, the Logitech keyboards & mice worked perfectly. [Bug 350117] [NEW] Dragon Player gives static instead of soundtrack with certain codec
Public bug reported: When trying to play the .flv file downloaded from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7LjriWFAEs&ap=%2526fmt%3D22 Dragon player opens the file and plays the video, but the audio is just static. When I open the file with Mplayer on ubuntu 8.04, it does not play, with the message "Cannot find codec for audio format 0xA" When I open the file in totem (running on 9.04 alpha 5 or later), it plays perfectly. The problem appears to happen at the 90% Hardware detection stage. With the video card removed and using the onboard VIA video, X froze & the cursor would not respond. With a different video card (AGP SIS XABRE), X restarted a few seconds after hardware detection started. Rebooting gave GRUB error 15. Tried again, used different hard disk, instructed ubiquity to use the entire disk.
