[Bug 1093376] Re: Black screen on boot with Nvidia 310 driver

2012-12-24 Thread Ian Nicholson
I think that this is a duplicate of bug 1069283, which I experience with all
versions of the nvidia drivers.
Does it work if you install gdm and configure ubuntu to use that rather than
lightdm?

[Bug 1023711] [NEW] Error when trying to restore files using Restore Missing Files in nautilus

2012-07-11 Thread Ian Nicholson
Public bug reported:

If I try to restore a specific folder with deja-dup by using the file -
restore missing files... option in nautilus, I am prompted with an error
message that says another backup operation is already running. This error
persists through a reboot.
Yesterday I was restoring a folder using this method when I was forced to
cancel the restore process by clicking the cancel button, that was the last
time that the restoration process worked.
I am unable to access my files at this time due to this bug.

Re: [Bug 1019619] Re: fglrx: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:0@1:0:1) found

I ran updates because there was a more recent version of some fglrx
package, then purged fglrx and fglrx-updated, and now I get to the log
in screen.
But when I put in my username and password, the screen flashes to what
appears to be a tty with boot messages on it, and then I get dropped
back to the login screen.
It seems to me that the problems has disappeared. (But a new problem has
shown up that requires a different bug report.)
Thank you very much!

2011-11-29 Thread Ian Nicholson
On 11/29/2011 10:33 AM, François Prot wrote:

I managed to declare my GTalk account as a jabber one and chose to
 ignore SSL errors :

 Encryption required – CHECKED
Ignore SSL certificate errors – CHECKED
 Resource – BLANK
 Priority – 0
 Server – talk.google.com
 Port – 5223
 Use old SSL – CHECKED

At least there is no more warning that pops up every 5 minutes.

It is an acceptable workaround for me, but I find it confusing that I
needed to switch to a manual jabber configuration to do that.

Unfortunately for me, my account is on my personal jabber server, set up
as a jabber account in empathy, so that workaround doesn't help me.

Re: [Bug 830348] Re: desktop contents briefly visible on resume from suspend before lock dialog

Wow, so this is happening in ~Friday's Oneiric in a very interesting
way: the whole screen is visible and the mouse pointer moves, for
several seconds before the dialog appears. It's quite possible to
 read some text off.
So is this marked as a security bug? Because I think it's very clearly
something that needs to be fixed ~yesterday.
This occurs for me when the system resumes from standby as well as when
the screen wakes up after having turned itself off.

Thank you for your bug report, is that still an issue? How do you lock
the screen? Using the indicator, key binding, lid close etc..?

 Status: Confirmed = Incomplete

For me it only occurs when my laptop resumes from suspend.

[Bug 860100] Re: I can't upgrade from 11.04 to Oneiric Beta 2

2011-09-26 Thread Ian Nicholson
This affects me as well. Update manager gives me an error that it
cannot calculate an upgrade path and that I do not have ubuntu-desktop
installed, which is incorrect.

Unfortunately, the nature of the files in question means that they
cannot be transferred to another individual. I'll see if I can locate
other non-sensitive files that trigger this bug.
