[Bug 1696261] [NEW] Settings app items have bad text wrapping

2017-06-06 Thread Ian Santopietro
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu GNOME 17.04 with GNOME 3.24.

gnome-control-center:
  Installed: 1:3.24.1-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:3.24.1-0ubuntu1

What actually happened:
When I open settings, I find that my perfectly innocuous Region & Language
settings have been kidnapped by a stranger named Lan Guage. I don't know who
Mr. Guage is but I would like him to return my settings.

What I expected to happen:
Find settings app that has not been visited by Lan Guage.

[Bug 1645495] [NEW] Geary displays a GtkHeaderBar wrapped under a regular title bar in Ubuntu

2016-11-28 Thread Ian Santopietro
Public bug reported:

By default in Ubuntu (16.10), when Geary opens it displays both a
GtkHeaderBar object as a toolbar, and a regular title bar, with the

[Bug 1441253] Re: hanging suspend job prevents shutdown

2016-05-26 Thread Ian Santopietro
Had a couple of reports of this on System76 Machines. It appears this is
manifests as an incomplete resume, where some job in the resume doesn't
terminate, leading systemd to think the machine is still resuming, while
at the same time the system appears to be up and running normally. This
is a very frustrating problem for our users, because it prevents them
from cleanly shutting down their computer.

[Bug 1552798] [NEW] Touchpad on Laptop Can be Disabled on Accident

2016-03-03 Thread Ian Santopietro
Public bug reported:

In the Mouse and Trackpad Settings plugin, there is an option (when a
trackpad is present, e.g. on a laptop) to enable or disable the
trackpad. This is a dangerous option because if the setting is toggled
on a laptop (where the trackpad is the only built-in pointing device)
without first plugging in an external mouse, the trackpad which was used
to toggle the setting is disabled and cannot be used to re-enable it.
This requires one of three solutions:

1. Plugging in an External Mouse to re-enable the setting

2. Using the [TAB] and [SPACE] keys to navigate the UI and get to the
switch and toggle it back on

3. Running a gsettings command in the terminal to reset the option

Option 1 may not be available if the user doesn't have an external
mouse. Options 2 and 3 aren't discoverable for new users, which can
leave someone new to Ubuntu with no way to use their computer.

The gsettings key that is toggle by this widget is:

org.gnome.desktop.peripherals.touchpad/send-events

The key accepts the values "enabled", "disabled", and "disabled-on-
external-mouse". The third option would be a much better choice for the
disabled item, since that still allows use of the trackpad without an
external mouse. The wording of the option could also be updated to
something similar to: "Disable touchpad automatically when an external
mouse is plugged in".

[Bug 1486219] [NEW] Eye of GNOME doesn't display an error if the currently-viewed image is deleted

2015-08-18 Thread Ian Santopietro
Public bug reported:

Eye of GNOME doesn't display an error if the currently-viewed image is
deleted. For example, if you open an image in EoG, close it, delete the
image, then attempt to open the image from recent, you will receive an
error stating No images found in 'file:///path/to/image/file.png'.
However, if you are currently viewing an image, and delete it from
outside of EoG, the the live-update will correctly remove it from
display, but EoG remains open and simply displays grey.

Re: [Bug 1133646] Re: Kernel Regression-Web Cam Displays Black Screen

2013-02-28 Thread Ian Santopietro
Hi Joseph.

I don't have the specific change available (that research was done by
my colleague, Tim, above.

That said, the -26 kernel currently sitting in proposed seems to have
reenabled the webcam. I'm doing some more comprehensive testing to ensure
that it didn't cause any more issues, but this may have been fixed already.

What is the release schedule for that -26 kernel?

On Thu, Feb 28, 2013 at 10:55 AM, Joseph Salisbury
joseph.salisb...@canonical.com wrote:

 Hi Ian,

Do you happen to have the SHA1 for the change you believe introduced this
regression? I did a quick git search and see the latest upstream change in
3.5.y to drivers/media/video/uvc/uvc_video.c was the following commit:
 ed0ee0ce0a3224dab5caa088a5f8b6df25924276
 Applied: v3.4-rc4~4^2~7

I see the latest change to that file in the 3.5 Ubuntu tree is:
 eb8666b72435635533748d5654ea506d6b600351
 Applied: Ubuntu-3.5.0-17.26~164

Both of these commits were introduced prior to 3.5.0-23.

I do see the following commit applied to the Ubuntu tree:
a2f30ff - usb: gadget: uvc: fix error path in uvc_function_bind()
 Applied: Ubuntu-3.5.0-24.36~321

However, this commit changed the file:
 drivers/usb/gadget/f_uvc.c

I could build a test kernel with commit a2f30ff reverted, unless you see
another commit that I missed. If reverting commit a2f30ff doesn't fix
the bug, we can perform a bisect to narrow down the exact bad commit.

2013-02-27 Thread Ian Santopietro
I think we were able to find the change that broke this. Looking at the
changelog, this is the only webcam change that came between -23 and -25:

--- linux-3.5.0.orig/drivers/media/video/uvc/uvc_video.c
+++ linux-3.5.0/drivers/media/video/uvc/uvc_video.c

It looks like this change was submitted from upstream.

I just noticed that the Link also points to the 11.04 section of the
help site (https://help.ubuntu.com/11.04/index.html). This should point
to (https://help.ubuntu.com/11.10/index.html)

[Bug 795458] Re: Display garbled upon connecting external displays

2011-06-14 Thread Ian Santopietro
This issue also affects all intel-based System76 systems. This issue
does not occur on our ATI or Nvidia systems.

We have been able to workaround the issue by pressing Alt+F2 and running
the unity command.

2011-05-02 Thread Ian Santopietro
We tested a Serval SerP3 with an 8600M GT. With a fresh install of 11.04
and the latest Nvidia Driver (270.41.06). Everything runs fine. Please
try a fresh installation of Natty and report back.

Sorry about the second comment. Please also run this command:

sudo dmidecode ~/dmiInfo

This creates a dmiInfo file in your home directory. Please send that to
us via email or attach it to this bug report so we can check your
specific hardware information.

[Bug 762964] Re: Bluetooth doesn't work in Ubuntu 11.04

2011-04-27 Thread Ian Santopietro
Our BIOSes are configured to turn off power to the modules when the
system is booted or resumed from suspend. In Ubuntu, the modules don't
appear to be installed, and lsusb does not echo the existence of the
module until pressing Fn+F12 to turn the module on. It's analogous to
booting the system with a physical killswitch in the off position.

[Bug 762964] Re: Bluetooth doesn't work in Ubuntu 11.04

2011-04-26 Thread Ian Santopietro
Installing the Maverick version of the bluez package solved the issue
here as a workaround. We know it's a problem with the bluez package.
I'll be looking at what specifically changed between the two versions.
Dev help here would also be great.

[Bug 762964] Re: Bluetooth doesn't work in Ubuntu 11.04

2011-04-21 Thread Ian Santopietro
This is also affecting all bluetooth enabled System76 Laptops. Upon
investigation of the issue, we found that enabling the bluetooth module
(It is off at boot by default on our models), then running these
commands allows bluetooth to function:

sudo killall bluetoothd
sudo bluetoothd

However, if the module is disabled then enabled, it will not work until the
commands are run again.
This should suggest a problem with the bluez package (provider of
/usr/sbin/bluetoothd), right?

[Bug 762964] Re: Bluetooth doesn't work in Ubuntu 11.04

2011-04-21 Thread Ian Santopietro
Additionally, using a system with a bluetooth module powered on from the
moment the system is booted allows bluetooth to function out of the box,
without restarting bluetoothd. It looks like there is a bug that
prevents bluetoothd from detecting a module activated after it's been
started.
