[Bug 810093] Re: The new (2.6.39+) samsung_laptop kernel module causes serious backlight flickering - makes the desktop unusable
Cool story. Stopped reading halfway through because it starts about having to recompile packages and more of that stuff. I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to Ubuntu and am not interested in reading through 64 comments to find out whether or not someone has posted proper instructions on how to fix the problem. Now, how do I update this samsung-laptop file so that it doesn't flicker anymore? Preferably with clear instructions on how recompiling packages works and how it affects my usage of Aptitude Package Manager (will it say my package needs updating, since it's different from the version Apt has in its repository?). [Bug 333314] [NEW] sun-java6 and firefox problem
Public bug reported: I'm experiencing java-problems with my firefox: the java-based functions in firefox aren't working properly anymore for an unknown reason to me. I already tried reinstalling every firefox-package I could find in the Synaptic Package Manager. I figured I'd have to reinstall java, so I installed sun-java6-jre (after noticing that there wasn't a current version of java installed). I'm using: Ubuntu 8.10 sun-java6-jre: Installed: 6-10-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 6-10-0ubuntu2 sun-java6-bin: Installed: 6-10-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 6-10-0ubuntu2 firefox: Installed: 3.0.6+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.1 Candidate: 3.0.6+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.1 sun-java6-bin: Installed: 6-10-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 6-10-0ubuntu2 I hoped that firefox would work properly now, bu after installing the sun-java6-jre and bin, I got errors, telling me that the packages failed to install, neither did firefox start working properly again. Halp?
