[Bug 1846374] Re: Having a video playing/paused when switched to another user generates gigabytes of error logs

2020-09-11 Thread Hugh Ingram
This affect me too. /var/log/syslog fills up until my disk runs out of
space.

Steps to recreate:
- open a video in VLC
- pause the video
- suspend computer
- un-suspend computer

I see these errors in syslog:

Sep 11 19:01:04 SOL Thunar.desktop[12293]: [7f04e809acb0] vdpau_chroma
filter error: video mixer features failure: An invalid handle value was
provided.
Sep 11 19:01:04 SOL Thunar.desktop[12293]: [7f04e809acb0] vdpau_chroma
filter error: video mixer attributes failure: An invalid handle value was
provided.

The errors stop after closing VLC.

My .xsession-error file is very short, ~20 lines and several years old.

[Bug 1847832] [NEW] Backport ZoL pull request 9203 into the official packages.

2019-10-11 Thread Alex Ingram
Public bug reported:

Hopefully this is the correct bug tracker to report this on.

Recently, I ran into a bug in ZFS as shipped in Ubuntu 19.10 that caused
the kernel to deadlock and the system to eventually hang.

I was advised by a ZFS on Linux project maintainer that this was a bug
that was fixed in 0.8.2.

The relevant pull request is here:
https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/pull/9203

It would probably be a good idea to backport that pull request into
19.10's build of ZFS.

[Bug 342096] Re: SD Card containing /home corrupted on resume

2014-10-02 Thread George Ingram
This was still a problem in 13.10. It started ok, but then stared happening on
13.10. I'd done a fake-pae install on an X40 so can't comment on previous
versions. It was magically 'fixed' when I upgraded to 14.04. but it just
resurfaced :/

Suspend by shutting the lid or low power and when I resume, the system has lost
track of the original mount and asks me if I want to view in file manager, as
with removeable storage.

This is a 5 year old bug, a lot of people with old notebooks boost the
storage with SD cards, it would be very nice if we could rely on them.

Mine is now mounted on /home/username/sd.

I started using it a permanent storage after 14.04 upgrade 'fixed' the
problem.

[Bug 1374761] Re: After do-release-upgrade 13.10-14.04 desktop keybindings lost

2014-10-01 Thread George Ingram
It's broken again.
Prior to my last comment, I changed the keyboard to pc-104, which seemed to fix
the alt key. It broke some other keys, so I tried some more keyboards, none of
them seem to work with alt. Now pc-104 doesn't work with alt either?

Alt-T produces a ŧ in most of them

similar characters with other combincations. None of the Alt keybindings
work.

I tried apt-get purge ibus as suggested in another possibly related bug,
although I'd already fixed the US keyboard issue in settings.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ibus/+bug/1284635

keyboard has been perfect until 14.04 upgrade.

14.04 installed a quite a few packages during the upgrade, many of them
applications such as Pidgin and Transmission as well as system type
programs I did not previously have.

[Bug 1374761] [NEW] After do-release-upgrade 13.10-14.04 all keybindings lost

2014-09-27 Thread George Ingram
Public bug reported:

I have an X40 and went through the tedious process to install fake-pae
and upgrading, so it's had a few upgrades now, I think I had to start
with 11.10. I just upgraded 13.10 to 14.04.

I've lost all my keybindings. I have lubuntu-core and not much else.
LXDE and openbox are also installed, but I believe they are part of
lubuntu-core? I've tried ctrl-alt-t, ctrl-alt-d ctrl-alt-del, ctrl alt
left ctrl alt-right nothing works.

I've tried reinstalling lubuntu-core and lxde

Ctrl-c and ctrl v work in a browser, ctrl-del and ctrl insert work in LXterminal
I can't find anything that works on the desktop

lubuntu-rc is present and seemingly correct.

Public bug reported:

wifi worked briefly after upgrade to 14.04, but died. The wifi icon has also
disappeared from the system tray. Using the preferences network settings window
can't achieve anything
In previous releases, it would always wait with something like 'network

it for 18 monhts so o can't remember exact wording.
the wifi would come up with sudo service network-manager restart, which I
eventually put in rc.local.
I really don't fancy reinstalling 13.10 as it's a pentiumM system and the
process is tedious to say the least.

==21224== Your program just tried to execute an instruction that Valgrind
==21224== did not recognise. There are two possible reasons for this.
==21224== 1. Your program has a bug and erroneously jumped to a non-code

==21224== 2. The instruction is legitimate but Valgrind doesn't handle it,

==21224==you are not sure, please let us know and we'll try to fix it.

[Bug 841184] Re: LibreOffice ignores default email client

2012-07-25 Thread Grant Ingram
Just to note that I have 12.04 with all patches installed and the
File-Send behaviour does not pick up the default e-mail client. Having
sensible-lomua in Options - Internet - E-mail still picks up
Evolution putting thunderbird in picks up Thunderbird quite nicely.

[Bug 1022082] [NEW] package phpmyadmin (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 10

2012-07-07 Thread William Ingram
Public bug reported:

Install process did not ask me if I wanted to set mysql root password.
Then when phpmyadmin installation ran it asked me for the password to
the administrative account to create the phpmyadmin db. I Entered in
nothing at first, then later on when several more attempts to install
the package were made, I chose to attempt other system passwords, no
luck with any attempts. Finally an abort of the installation was
attempted and also failed.

[Bug 934921] Re: HUD should ignore ALT keypress when in (full screen) games

2012-04-28 Thread Ingram
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 806255 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/806255

Doesn't seem like a duplicate to me. Any full screen app gets knocked
out to the desktop and HUD if you press the alt key, even if the alt key
is used in the full screen app. In my case, it's Super Tux 2. ALT shoots
fireballs, and now it launches HUD instead.

[Bug 816145] Re: Atheros AR5001 wireless card wireless is disabled by hardware switch

2011-08-31 Thread Denva Joshua Ingram
Hello and thanks Seth, I can't uoad the rfkill as my laptop overheated
and am currently writing this on my blackberry. But when I did do the
rfkill it said the same thing as last time (stated above).

I also tried the work around and after following your instructions my
wireless card was picking up networks but wouldn't connect to them. Then
we done disabled the network and turned it back on and it came up with
disabled by hardware switch. And haven't been able to get it to search
for networks again.

One last thing I did blacklist hp_wmi, but I think I have undone all of
it again

Thanks again for your help, this problem is getting annoying lol

[Bug 816145] Re: Atheros AR5001 wireless card wireless is disabled by hardware switch

2011-08-28 Thread Denva Joshua Ingram
Hello again, I though I would try and use a USB wireless dongle. It was
a ralink RT2070 (device ID - 148f:2070), but for some strange reason it
came up with device is disabled by hardware switch. So I decided to do
rfkill unblock all and sure enough my laptop wireless was unblocked
and the usb dongle was unblocked, so I tried to use my laptop wireless
and it connect and disconnect 3 or 4 times, then went back to hardblock.

I will attach some log files just in case you need them, but I think
that it may not be any wireless card problem but the laptop itself as
ubuntu says that the ralink dongle is disabled by hardware switch, which
isn't possible

Thanks guys

(recognized the drivers, but wouldn't switch it on). It just seems to be

[Bug 816145] Re: Atheros AR5001 wireless card wireless is disabled by hardware switch

2011-07-25 Thread Denva Joshua Ingram
network-manager start/stop and kernel driver load/unload tested (syslog)
hardware button tested (syslog1)
rfkill checked (command 1)
Also, tried full instructions at Hotkeys/Troubleshooting in case it was the
Hardware button itself. It was tested with udev and acpi_listen and there is no
event for the button, so could be that the kernel is not initiating an event to
NetworkManager or X to kick the wifi in.

Could try wpa_supplicant but need instructions on how to do this - any
simple instructions welcome (WEP 64 hex key), i.e. how to kick it to
connect manually, although I don't know the commands.

udev tested as per Hotkeys/Troubleshooting - no events for button

Mainline kernel amd64 v3.0-rc7 tested too, no change in the situation.

~
Tested by xteejx directly

Change it to:

Re: [Bug 794862] Re: Rhythmbox should exit on clicking X

2011-06-09 Thread John Ingram
Thankyou for replying.

If I'm playing a tune and select X Rhythmbox closes but the tune is
still playing. Never used to do that before the update. And I can't seem
to be able to do anything but re-open the program and select quit.
Really annoying.

I have not got any plug ins enabled.

Ta,

On 06/09/2011 10:02 AM, Brendan Donegan wrote:
 Hi,

When you say it doesn't quit on the X, do you mean that it goes to the
background (more like minimising) or it doesn't close at all? Either
way, the behaviour I get on clicking the X is for it to close completely
 (quit).

I'm just wondering what you were expecting and trying to establish the
 problem you're having.

 Thanks,

Re: [Bug 74454] [network-admin] net-mgr doesn't remember location

2011-05-19 Thread coburn ingram
Pedro--

The network manager interface has changed so much since Dapper, I
don't have any idea if this is still a problem. Now all I do is share
folders with Samba and printers with CUPS (except that isn't working
right...another story). Instead of the network manager I use folder
sharing options, which seems to work. Point of fact, I've stayed away
from using network profiles, assuming that it's a poorly supported
feature.

And I've been using Natty since December. What was Dapper, 6.04?
That's been a while!

Thanks,

Coby

Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or
feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an
issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May
you please test with that version and comment back if you're still
having or not the issue? Please have a look at
http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that
 version.Thanks in advance.

[Bug 661774] [NEW] CPU applets do not show text

2010-10-16 Thread Denva Joshua Ingram
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

After doing a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10, the CPU applets fail to
show the text of the speed the CPUs are going. This is important to me
as my laptop lives to heat up and cut off when I can not see the Mhz or
Ghz it is going. If you need any information I will gladly give it to
you.

Sorry I am a new Ubuntu member :S

This is the Applet - CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor 2.30.0
I didn't understand the stuff on the website link you gave me, it sounded more
for people who try to sort it out.

I will give other information about the Laptop I am using which may help
and the Kernel I am using

AMD Turion x2 64
2GB RAM
Nvidia 8200M

Gnome 2.32.0
2.6.35-22-generic #34-Ubuntu SMP Sun Oct 10 09:24:00 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

If there is anything else you need please ask :)

[Bug 659603] [NEW] package bcmwl-kernel-source 5.60.48.36 bdcom-0ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-10-12 Thread Christopher Ingram
Public bug reported:

I don't know exactly what happened, but I could not install the
proprietary drivers for my Lenovo Ideapad S12. It requires the Nvidia
proprietary drivers and the Broadcom STA wireless drivers. This is a
12.1 inch netbook of sorts and I'd love to have ubuntu on it instead of
windows 7 home premium. Those are the only 2 problems that I have with
switching over the system.

[Bug 591243] Re: CD and DVD media fail to mount

2010-06-10 Thread Max Ingram
Okay, I burned a copy of the latest 10.10 ISO and ran it as a live CD.
While operating under that environment, I was able to insert a CD into
my secondary CD/DVD drive and have it recognized perfectly. I could
play music off the CD, and it worked just like it should. Ejected and
re-inserted the music CD several times and it worked great. So whatever
you guys have changed in 10.10 seems to fix this issue.

I went back into 10.04 and ran the command requested for debug info.

I also installed what I think is the latest upstream kernel, but I
really wasn't clear on the instructions so I'm not sure if I did that
correctly. I downloaded the most recent image under the Lucid directory
(2.6.32-0206321505-generic_i386.deb) and installed it, then rebooted
under that and the problem persisted without changes.

[Bug 591243] [NEW] CD and DVD media fail to mount

2010-06-08 Thread Max Ingram
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

10.04 LTS

Upon upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04, CDs or DVDs of any kind fail to
mount. Double-clicking the associated drive icon under 'Computer'
produces no result. Attempts to mount discs using commands, mount
/dev/sr0 or mount /media/cdrom0result in errors, mount: can't find
/dev/sr0 in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab and can't find /media/cdrom0 in
/etc/fstab or /etc/mtab.

Attempted to solve issue with fresh install of 10.04 from disc. Disc
was recognized on boot up and fresh install proceeded without errors.
But issue persists under new install with identical results.

I haven't used dmesg before, so hopefully this is what you're looking
for. I attempted to mount from the command prompt, got the usual error,
and then typed 'dmesg'. This was the output.

[Bug 495953] Re: needs update

2010-02-15 Thread Chris Ingram
I'm sorry, but I don't understand the logic here. Nuvexport is part of
mythtv, so the latest nuvexport is version 0.22 just like the rest of
mythtv. But the version of nuvexport in the current release of Ubuntu
is version 0.21. Presumably, someone builds the latest mythtv binaries
from source to include in Ubuntu and could just as easily build the
latest version of nuvexport the same way. Based on that assumption, I
don't understand this statement:

We just don't have the resources to be able to maintain this package
among all the others; especially without upstream doing releases of
nuvexport.

What else is involved in maintaining the nuvexport package other than
running make from the nuvexport directory in the source tree?

[Bug 336747] [NEW] typo Log out/in kdialog

2009-03-02 Thread Greg Ingram
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde

KDE 4.2.00 on Jaunty.

I wanted to run mythfrontend and the system offered to add me to the mythtv
group. Then a dialog titled Log out/in - KDialog said:

For the changes to take effect, your current login session will have to be
restarted. Save all work and then press OK to restart your session.

The problem is there are Yes and No buttons. No OK button.

I first reported this bug on bugs.kde.org and it was suggested that it
might be a [k]ubuntu thing rather than a KDE thing.

[Bug 327485] [NEW] replaygain action fails when OUTPUTFORMAT includes ${YEAR}

Re: [Bug 298223] Re: package apparmor 2.3+1289-0ubuntu4.1 failed toinstall/upgrade: package apparmor is already installed and configured

2008-12-08 Thread Russ Ingram
Many thanks for your message.

The problem fixed itself without any further intervention from me, in that
further updates were downloaded and all installed including the formerly
reluctant apparmor package. If only all software problems were this easily
overcome!

Thanks again

[Bug 221488] Re: unknown video plays in slow motion in full screen

2008-09-22 Thread Kip Ingram
Yup. I've had this problem ever since upgrading to 8.04 on my main
desktop. I recently bought an Asus Eee PC 1000 and discarded the stock
Xandros OS in favor of Ubuntu (8.04.1). Same problem: agonizingly slow
video. Based on feedback here I switched all of the sound preferences
from Autodetect to ALSA, and the problem just disappeared.

I just found out about this fix and have only tried it on the Eee PC,
but I expect it will solve the problem on the desktop as well.
