[Bug 2067141] [NEW] ubuntu 24.04 - Wayland - i915 firmware not loaded correctly
Public bug reported: After upgrading from Ubuntu 23.10 to Ubuntu 24.04, I could no longer use Wayland. Logging in with Wayland resulted in a black screen. A potential cause of the issue was that the update-initramfs procedure reported some missing i915 modules. The folder /lib/firmware/i915 contained all the modules in a compressed format (.zst files), but the system was unable to load them. I manually copied the uncompressed versions from the 10th of April, downloaded from linux-firmware.git, and the system, including Wayland, started working again. I believe this issue might be related to the compressed modules option, and perhaps someone knows how to resolve it without this workaround ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 24.04 Package: linux-firmware 20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 6.8.0-31.31-generic 6.8.1 Uname: Linux 6.8.0-31-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.28.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/seq:black 3666 F pipewire /dev/snd/controlC1: black 3670 F wireplumber /dev/snd/controlC0: black 3670 F wireplumber CRDA: N/A CasperMD5CheckResult: pass CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Sat May 25 12:53:53 2024 Dependencies: firmware-sof-signed 2023.12.1-1ubuntu1 InstallationDate: Installed on 2023-12-05 (172 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 23.10.1 "Mantic Minotaur" - Release amd64 (20231016.1) MachineType: TUXEDO TUXEDO InfinityBook Pro Gen8 (MK2) ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 PATH=(custom, no user) SHELL=/usr/bin/zsh TERM=xterm-256color XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= ProcFB: 0 i915drmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-6.8.0-31-generic root=UUID=81369281-1cb3-4643-b162-376bd0191fd1 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-6.8.0-31-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-6.8.0-31-generic N/A linux-firmware20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu2 SourcePackage: linux-firmware UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to noble on 2024-05-21 (4 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 09/25/2023 dmi.bios.release: 5.27 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends International, LLC. dmi.bios.version: N.1.10A06 dmi.board.asset.tag: Standard dmi.board.name: PH6PG01_PH6PG71 dmi.board.vendor: NB02 dmi.board.version: Standard dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Standard dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: TUXEDO dmi.chassis.version: Standard dmi.ec.firmware.release: 1.17 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInternational,LLC.:bvrN.1.10A06:bd09/25/2023:br5.27:efr1.17:svnTUXEDO:pnTUXEDOInfinityBookProGen8(MK2):pvrStandard:rvnNB02:rnPH6PG01_PH6PG71:rvrStandard:cvnTUXEDO:ct10:cvrStandard:skuIBP1XI08MK2: dmi.product.name: TUXEDO InfinityBook Pro Gen8 (MK2) dmi.product.sku: IBP1XI08MK2 dmi.product.version: Standard dmi.sys.vendor: TUXEDO ** Affects: linux-firmware (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug noble wayland-session -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2067141 Title: ubuntu 24.04 - Wayland - i915 firmware not loaded correctly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/2067141/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1970426] Re: screen suddenly starts flickering after update
In my case I think it flickers badly because of the "Night Light" feature that is not working properly. Once I disable the feature, the flicker is less annoying. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970426 Title: screen suddenly starts flickering after update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1970426/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1963264] Re: Gnome screen recorder doesn't work on dist-upgraded jammy systems
Hi, I have encountered the same issue after upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04. [Bug 1666681] Re: Restore interactive_search.patch (type-ahead search)
OMFG, being an Ubuntu (patched Nautilus that is) user for more than 9 years I thought this was a bug with 17.10 and patiently waited for a fix ... can't agree more with "complete idiots" This is not a huge, complex and hard to maintain feature that you just decide it is too difficult to support. [Bug 1495817] Re: Display port stopped working with update to kernel 3.19.0.28
It this is a kernel bug then booting an older kernel should avoid this issue, right? I have tried on a 3.19.0.25 kernel and the issue is still there.
