[Bug 915165] Re: Cannot specify save directory for some GTK+3 applications - Recent/recursive directories replace user selection.

2014-05-23 Thread Israel Vaughn
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1102042 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1102042

Not a duplicate of 1102042. If I select a folder under the dropdown
(even twice) it will save to the first folder that it defaulted to, it
is as if it isn't taking the new folder setting under the dropdown!

[Bug 1038373] Re: 8086:0887 Intel Centrino 2230 card doesn't connect, and has extremely high latency when connected

2012-10-09 Thread Israel Vaughn
Actually, it is still here. I noticed something different today,
perhaps the compat-wireless workaround was conflated.

Ping times are fine, when AC (mains) power is plugged in. When I'm on
battery is when the ping times go up to 500+ms.

I'm usually plugged in, so I perhaps thought that the compat-wireless
fixed it.

sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off

actually fixed it. Is this a regression?

So the compat-wireless workaround seemed to fix the issue, do you need
anything else?

[Bug 1038373] Re: 8086:0887 Intel Centrino 2230 card doesn't connect, and has extremely high latency when connected

2012-08-26 Thread Israel Vaughn
AP : Netgear WNDR3800, firmware version 1.0.0.38 (latest).

Connection type : 2.4Ghz 802.11n (I tryed changing to 802.11g and this
didn't fix it).

No other devices have the issue with the AP, including Android, Mac, and
this machine on Windows.

The distance to the AP is 3 feet, with no obstructions. Changing the
distance does not seem to affect the problem.

I don't know if the issue occurs with other APs. I'll be taking this
laptop to school soon, I'll update when I attempt to connect to another
AP.

I don't know if this is a regression, this laptop is a brand new
warranty replacement, so I haven't ever had this model of wireless card
before.

The compat-wireless did provide a provide a WORKAROUND or solution
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LinuxWireless#Compat-
wireless_in_Ubuntu!

[Bug 1038373] [NEW] Intel Centrino 2230 card doesn't connect, and has extremely high latency when connected

When I first wake the computer, or boot the computer, wireless attempts
to connect about 15-20 times before finally connecting.

Once connected, speed and latency vary randomly, but mostly on the
slow/high side respectively.

When I test my connection speed with a site like speedtest.net, I'll
usually get full speed for about 1/2 a sec , then it goes to zero for
awhile, then comes back on at full speed a second later or so.

With windows, connected to the same router, none of these problems
occur.

I'm using a fresh installation of 12.04.

[Bug 984552] Re: [8086:0085] iwlwifi intermittently losing connectivity

2012-08-13 Thread Israel Vaughn
I am seeing this on my HP Dv4t-5100 with a Centrino Wireless-N 2230
wireless card on 12.04 with all updates current.

Some strange things happen, first, it takes a long time for the wireless
to connect, then ping times to the router vary randomly from up to 1 sec
down to 4 ms or so.

The only thing about the wifi or intel in dmesg or the kern.log is the
following :

[Bug 509180] Re: ecryptfs sometimes seems to add trailing garbage to encrypted files

2011-12-06 Thread Israel Vaughn
I am seeing similar behavior to #159, except my lockups are so frequent
that I cannot even use my laptop anymore. I'm running 11.10 64-bit with
all the latest updates.

I see tons of

Either the lower file is not in a valid eCryptfs format, or the key
could not be retrieved. Plaintext passthrough mode is not enabled;
returning -EIO

messages in the log files (syslog and kern.log).

I noticed that this problem became much much worse after the most recent
update.

I have ~600,000 files in my home directory, I don't know if that is a
contributing factor.

Today my laptop froze, requiring reboot (could not even ssh into it)
about 15 times. The last time it froze the matlab code that I was
writing was completely corrupted (looked at it in a hex editor, totally
mangled) upon reboot.

I'm going to convert to a non-encrypted home and I'll report back
whether the freezes stop (if they don't then it must be something else).

[Bug 728745] Re: [nvidia, 7300, 7400] display freeze when using unity desktop

2011-05-25 Thread Israel Vaughn
@ #86

Just installed the 275.09 drivers on Ubuntu 10.04, still has the compiz
freezing issue.

What I did to get around it (because it is just a display issue) was hit
Alt+F2 and then type (blindly) metacity --replace which gave me back
my desktop.

I can't downgrade because I write and compile CUDA code on this machine
for GTX 400 and 500 series and need all the machines to be synced on
CUDA SDK, driver, etc. (I have a 7300 GS as my display card, the other
cards are GPU computing cards).

Nvidia this sucks!

[Bug 571444] Re: Boot hangs and unable to continue when automount disk in fstab is not available (Off or Disconnected)

2010-05-23 Thread Israel Vaughn
This happened to me because for some reason 10.04 does not load the
wireless modules prior to attempting to connect to network shares that
are in fstab. The network (samba) shares are not able to be found and
then the boot just hangs. No shell, nothing, I can only reboot or use
the work around, thanks OP for the workaround!

This is an extremely serious bug for any non-power user, as fstab must
be edited to fix the initial problem, and it basically makes an upgraded
system unusable.

[Bug 517571] Re: Computer hang-up on coping or moving a folder/file

2010-03-04 Thread Israel Vaughn
More testing...

It only kernel panicked when I copied a large directory from my internal
HDD to my internal HDD.

When I gksudo nautilus it appears to work. I also today added another
user (I should have done this before but didn't have time) and nautilus
appears to work for the other user so there is probably a problem in my
home directory (though I deleted all settings under .nautilus and it did
not fix the problem).

I can reproduce every time in my main account, (not the kernel panic,
but the hand and memory/cpu consumption) by copying more than 100 or so
files, even if the size is not that big.

I would probably return this to unconfirmed or invalid since it only
appears to occur with a specific user.

I'll post again if I find a workaround.

[Bug 517571] Re: Computer hang-up on coping or moving a folder/file

2010-03-03 Thread Israel Vaughn
I can confirm this bug.

On attempting to copy via nautilus (from/to USB drives or from/to
network shares) the following occurs :

1. What I believe is the file operations dialog box pops up, but it is
tiny and never displays anything

2. After 1-2 seconds nautilus hangs and grays out

3. One of my CPUs is maxed out

4. All available RAM is consumed

5. It never crashes just hangs

6. If a copy is attempted with in my SATA drive (i.e internal SATA HDD
to internal SATA HDD) my system locks up with a kernel panic (keyboard
lights blinking)

I have an MSI p965 Platinum MB, E6600 Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, fresh
install of 9.10.

One thing of note is that I did some partition management before the
fresh install, combining two partitions into one and fully deleting my
Windows partition. /dev/sda2 is my root, /dev/sda3 is swap and
/dev/sda4 is /home. root is ext4 and home is xfs.

I tried adding the pci=routeirq option to the grub2

[Bug 229799] Re: [RV350 9600xt] System crashes 50% of time on boot on 'Rage Theatre setting standard 0x0000

2009-05-11 Thread Israel Vaughn
I am seeing this in Jaunty with various xorg configurations, but only
when I have my TV plugged in through S-Video out instead of a monitor,
or concurrent with the monitor. If it is not plugged in the theatre
module is not loaded. Whenever the theatre module is loaded it crashes
(from the xorg.0.log) at the (II) RADEON(0): Rage Theatre setting
standard 0x line.

I am trying the AGPMode settings now.

Please request info if you would like more.

This is with a Radeon 7200 with video in/out.

[Bug 318560] [NEW] Linksys WMP54G bit-rate degrades over time

2009-01-18 Thread Israel Vaughn
Public bug reported:

I have installed a wireless WMP54G v4.1 adapter. Serial number is
MDI40H719803

The following is what happens and is repeatable :

If I boot up my wireless is fast, i.e. around 3-4Mbps. This is tested
on my internal network. Some time goes by and then my speed degrades to
400-700Kbps. It always does this after about 1-2 hours of being
connected. To fix it I reconnect using iwconfig with the following
exact commands :

iwconfig wlan0 essid FitchResearch
iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M

after which I again get the fast speeds. Again, after 1-2 hours the
speeds degrade to 400-700Kbps. This happens every single time. I have
switched between wireless channels with no change in behavior.

I have two other computers connected the the wireless network, a Mac and
an XP machine, and neither of them every have any degradation.

My version is 8.04.1

Here is the output from iwconfig :

[Bug 177817] VCD (lavc) does not work

2007-12-20 Thread Israel Vaughn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: avidemux

Avidemux crashes when attempting to transcode from an uncompressed AVI
to VCD (lavc) in an MPEG video container. With default single pass
quantizer settings it crashes. With default single pass bitrate
settings it crashes. With default dual pass settings I receive the
error : Internal error with context for codecCODEC_ID_MPEG1VIDEO. Did
you use too low / too high target for 2 pass? after the first pass and
then it crashes. It does not matter what I set the target bitrate or
the filesize to respectively, it still throws the error and then
crashes.
