[Bug 78223] swsusp fails to resume
Public bug reported: I have an amd64 machine with Edgy. There are filve disks in. One ATA (hda) and four SATA (sda, sdb, sdc, sdd). All the four SATA disks are composed into an RAID5 array. The suspend part seems to be good. But the resume have problem. There is the log from resume. I have an idea but no time for test it. So when I makes my computer to suspend to disk the RAID array does not syncing before power off. When the computer starting again the md detects the raid array dirty and going to reconstructing it. AFTER the raid started the initrd detects the suspend signature on swap device and wants to stop tasks. It can't stop the md_resync and aborts resume and going over normal startup. [Bug 72616] Re: Kernel takes a 6 minutes break and go outside take a cup of coffee
It is similar to Bug #67299 and Bug#73312. There is some raid array constructed from not partitions but whole disks. The mdadm package has a component that runs at boot time from initramfs. (/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/md) This script scans only partitions but no whole disks as a member of any raid array to determine what raid-level module needs to be loaded into the kernel. When the computer boots up and the raid array constructed from whole disks it causes a wait up to~3-5 minutes. I have attached a patch to fix this. (You need to re-run update-initrd after apply the patch) ** Attachment added: patch for scanning whole disks as a member of a raid array http://librarian.launchpad.net/5174150/md.patch -- Kernel takes a 6 minutes break and go outside take a cup of coffee https://launchpad.net/bugs/72616 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 67299] Re: mdadm causes boot to hang for 4 minutes
You're right. My fix works work in my and the two other reported case. It is a quick and dirty fix for some special cases. I have spent ~4-5 hours to catch this bug. (A reboot takes up to 10 minutes on my box when patch not included) It would have been take less time if the script would have some debug information. -- mdadm causes boot to hang for 4 minutes https://launchpad.net/bugs/67299 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 73312] slow boot
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mdadm There is no check for whole disks assigned as a member of a raid array. It caused very slow boot on my box. My box is set up with four sata and one pata disks. The ata disk contains two pratitons: hda1 for root filesystem and hda2 for the swap. All the four sata disks are in one big raid5 array. In other words md0=raid5(sda, sdb, sdc, sdd). There is a script /usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/md in the mdadm package. It scans only the hda1, hda2, sda1, sdb2, etc but no the hda, hdb, sda, sdb. I had to wait 180 seconds on every boot for timeout of the scanning the possibly raid member disks to determine which raid level module need to load into the kernel. ps: it is closer for Bug #67299 ** Affects: mdadm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- slow boot https://launchpad.net/bugs/73312 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
