[Bug 1904700] Re: Mouse settings not reapplied after reconnect or resume

2020-11-20 Thread Ivo Wever
Indeed, I forgot to point that out: the settings in the configuration
panel stay correct: to switch back to 'Right' as the primary button, I
have to first select 'Left', so I can then select 'Right' again. I could
probably fix it by hooking some xinput commands into the proper udev
event, but since it seems to be a regression, I was hoping someone
knowledgeable might realize the underlying issue, and come up with a
better fix :)

[Bug 1904700] [NEW] Mouse settings not reapplied after reconnect or resume

2020-11-18 Thread Ivo Wever
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from 18.04 to 20.04 and notice that my mouse settings (I
mouse lefthanded) are no longer restored/reapplied when I reconnect its
usb receiver (gets disconnected due to use of KVM switch) or when
resuming (after suspend). I now have to reselect the right button as my
primary every time.

[Bug 1650666] Re: GVim crashes when opening new tab

2017-04-23 Thread Ivo Wever
Workaround: remove vim-gnome and vim-gtk3, install vim-gtk (which uses
gtk). Perhaps vim-gtk3 should specify a dependency on some specific gtk
library, which Nicholas Guriev and me are missing?

[Bug 1445134] Re: Network manager never scanning for new access points

2015-05-31 Thread Ivo Wever
I'm seeing this as well: after upgrading to 15.04, I sometimes don't get
automatically connected to my default network, because it hasn't been
found yet. A manual 'sudo iwlist scan' is needed to get it to find the
network, upon which it does automatically connect.

I installed a fresh copy of 15.04, retaining my home partition. /etc is
entirely fresh

[Bug 1456330] [NEW] Systemd fails to Load Kernel Modules after upgrade to 15.04 (failed to insert 'it87')

2015-05-18 Thread Ivo Wever
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 15.04, booting takes long. The cause seems to be that
systemd fails with "failed to start Load Kernel Modules". The cause for
that turns out to be that systemd-modules-load fails to load the it87
module. I did not have this problem before upgrading.

Some relevant logging:

[Bug 1424372] [NEW] Compiz reset required after downgrading

2015-02-22 Thread Ivo Wever
Public bug reported:

After downgrading to nvidia-current-upgrades in 14.10, I was faced with
the issue reported e.g. here [1]: no unity, launcher or dash. Fix 5 in
this [2] answer to that question solved the problem for me:

sudo dconf reset -f /org/compiz/

However, the fact that that was necessary is probably a bug.

OK, I upgraded to ubuntu-drivers-common 0.2.91.7 to reproduce the

2014-10-13 Thread Ivo Wever
I'm not clear on the version of ubuntu-drivers-common that I should test
it with. I'm currently up-to-date with 14.04, except for ubuntu-drivers-
common, which I've locked at 0.2.91.4. The latest available version is
0.2.91.7. Should I test the xserver-xorg-video-intel
2:2.99.910-0ubuntu1.2~ppa1 from ppa:canonical-x/x-staging against that
version?

My experience is slightly different from Fabio's. For me ubuntu-drivers-
common 1:0.2.91.4 and 1:0.2.91.5 work, while 1:0.2.91.6 and 1:0.2.91.7
don't. I only changed ubuntu-drivers-common between reboots and never
needed to reinstall the nvidia (331-updates) drivers.

[Bug 1365695] [NEW] No longer able to use GUI after update

2014-09-04 Thread Ivo Wever
Public bug reported:

Until yesterday the 14.04 install on this Thinkpad T530 (nvidia Optimus)
with nvidia-331 drivers worked just fine, including excellent multi-
monitor behavior. Yesterday the set of packages below [1] was updated. I
shut down, booted this morning and found out that I was not shown the
lightdm login screen: I was stuck at the purple screen that precedes it
(into which I enter my disk encryption password).

Now the funny thing is that I could hear the lightdm startup sound and
could actually login by typing my password (disk activity and started
processes verify I am actually logged in), but I can't see anything: I'm
still stuck at the puple screen.

Uninstalling the nvidia drivers solved the problem: I'm typing this in a
browser window using the nouveau drivers.

I atttempted switching to nvidia-304, but that doesn't work either.
Using those drivers I am shown the lightdm login screen, but after
logging in I'm stuck with a screen showing only the background image.
Nothing else is available, no keyboard or mouse trickery will reveal any
menu, dialog or terminal to gain access.

Since nouveau doesn't support a multi-monitor setup, it would be great
if I someone could tell me how to get the nvidia drivers working again.

Some things I noticed:
- .xsession-errors reported 'Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0"'
- /var/log/Xorg.0.log reported 'setversion 1.4 failed: Permission denied'

[Bug 1126626] [NEW] Performance of rt2800usb module in 3.5.0 abysmal (used by RT3072 chipset)

2013-02-15 Thread Ivo Wever
Public bug reported:

After switching from linux-image-3.2.0-37 to linux-image-3.5.0-23, I
noted the performance of my wireless network became awful (~1/10th of my
regular ~3 Mbps). Several reboots and crosschecks with other devices
confirmed that the kernel is to blame.

My wireless device:
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 148f:3072 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT3072 Wireless
Adapter

The driver stack used under both kernels:
rt2800usb 22773 0
rt2800lib 58967 1 rt2800usb
crc_ccitt 12707 1 rt2800lib
rt2x00usb 20808 1 rt2800usb
rt2x00lib 55326 3 rt2800usb,rt2800lib,rt2x00usb
mac80211 506862 3 rt2800lib,rt2x00usb,rt2x00lib
cfg80211 205774 2 rt2x00lib,mac80211

Of course I googled and came across topics such as
http://askubuntu.com/questions/131768/dlink-wireless-dwa-140-speeds-are-
crippled-on-12-04, where it is adviced to switch to the (older?)
rt5370sta. I tried that and although the driver installs, loads and even
connects to my accesspoint just fine, it subsequently immediately
freezes the 3.5 kernel.

[Bug 955965] Re: Alt - F10 does not maximize window - seems like a regression

2012-07-11 Thread Ivo Wever
I'm also quite unhappy about this change. You say it's been this way
since Natty, but that certainly hasn't been my experience: it first
broke for me after upgrading to 11.10 and I've been faithfully following
releases.

Is there anywhere we find the design rationale for such decisions of the
Unity team? These kinds of shortcut-key changes seem arbitrary and I
would love to know why they aren't.

[Bug 990543] [NEW] After upgrade from oneiric to precise, mysqld fails to start due to missing apparmor 'local' usr.sbin.mysqld config file

2012-04-28 Thread Ivo Wever
Public bug reported:

I just upgraded a machine from oneiric to precise, after which mysqld failed to
start. I traced the problem to the fact that
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.myqld was missing, even though this file is by
default included from /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.myqld.
A `touch /etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.sbin.myqld` solved the problem.

I've never touched any apparmor configs myself, so I doubt it was due to
some peculiarity in my usage of apparmor. Of course, there may have been
a peculiarity during the upgrade process (didn't go entirely smoothly;
i386 dependences for skype and crossoveroffice required some manual
intervention).

[Bug 881819] [NEW] Pidgin doesn't automatically log in accounts

2011-10-25 Thread Ivo Wever
Public bug reported:

Ever since the upgrade to 11.10, pidgin never recovers from being auto-
started before there is a network connection. It remains in "Waiting for
network connection" and never logs in its accounts. I need to go to the
accounts tab and uncheck and recheck all accounts to get them to sign
in.

[Bug 875158] [NEW] aptitude keeps reporting package as broken

2011-10-15 Thread Ivo Wever
Public bug reported:

Since my upgrade from natty to oneiric, aptitude keeps reporting theical2sqlite
package as broken, even though the package isn't installed (anymore?), nor is
it marked to be installed.
The conflict can be resolved without a problem (you choose to leave it as
UNINST), but it just keeps coming back after the next aptitude action (or after
restarting aptitude).

I'm reporting this as a bug against ical2sqlite, because I it could be
due to a bug in the package metadata.

[Bug 430984] Re: Experiencing system freezes since kernel update 2.6.28-13

2010-03-14 Thread Ivo Wever
Hi,

The problem no longer exists with 2.6.29+. I marked this bug as invalid
after discovering I couldn't pinpoint exactly when the behavior started
(and couldn't rule out hardware failure). The behavior disappeared at
some point, probably after switching to 2.6.29 or higher.

2009-10-13 Thread Ivo Wever
Marked as invalid: also sporadically happens on 2.6.28-11. Cannot be
sure when it started happening.

[Bug 430984] Re: Experiencing system freezes since kernel update 2.6.28-14

2009-09-16 Thread Ivo Wever
** Description changed:

- Ever since updating to 2.6.28-14-generic (and continuing with
- 2.6.28-15-generic), I experience occasional, unpredictable, system
- freezes. Sometimes I can work for hours, sometimes only for 15 minutes.
- Alt-SysRq-b still reboots, but other than that nothing works:
- mouse/keyboard do not yield any response, outgoing ftp transfers stop,
- incoming ssh connections get no answer, etc.

It's unlikely that it is a hardware issue, as this issue doesn't hit me

- ages. I couldn't find anything useful in the usual suspects: dmesg,
- syslog, kern.log, messages, etc. The bug may be related to a large
- filesystem load, but that's more of a hunch.

[Bug 430984] [NEW] Experiencing system freezes since kernel update 2.6.28-14

2009-09-16 Thread Ivo Wever
Public bug reported:

Ever since updating to 2.6.28-14-generic (and continuing with
2.6.28-15-generic), I experience occasional, unpredictable, system
freezes. Sometimes I can work for hours, sometimes only for 15 minutes.

incoming ssh connections get no answer, etc.

It's unlikely that it is a hardware issue, as this issue doesn't hit me
when booting 2.6.28-13-generic and my hardware has been supported for
ages. I couldn't find anything useful in the usual suspects: dmesg,
syslog, kern.log, messages, etc. The bug may be related to a large
filesystem load, but that's more of a hunch.
