[Bug 2085393] [NEW] ptyxis needs x-terminal-emulator alternative priority

2024-10-22 Thread Daniel J Blueman
Public bug reported:

When the ptyxis package is installed, it isn't added as an alternative

/usr/bin/ptyxis 50

And similar on removal.

[Bug 2084261] Re: Windows Remote Desktop will close session after I enter username and password

2024-10-11 Thread Christopher J. Ruwe
I am being hit by the same package mismatch. Thanks for documenting the
solution. I'd be grateful should someone put xrdp and xorgxrdp back in
sync.

Cheers!

[Bug 2080788] [NEW] Meld spits lots of errors and crashes on startup

2024-09-15 Thread Michał J . Gajda
Public bug reported:

Trying to run Meld 3.22.2-1 on Wayland and Gnome shell (default configuration)
leads to lots of errors in diffgrid.py file, when an object is NULL.
lsb_release is 24.04 (Noble Numbat)

It ends with core dump, so program is currently unusable. Even though
the window shows up, it is unresponsive to clicks.

Possibly incompatible PyGTK version or missing check for failed
allocation of the object.

Error messages start with:

```
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/meld/diffgrid.py", line 35, in do_realize
self._handle1.realize(self)
  File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/meld/diffgrid.py", line 281, in realize
attr.cursor = Gdk.Cursor.new_from_name(
  ^
```
Then similar errors with `self._window` and `self._widget` being `NoneType`.

2024-09-07 Thread Jack J. Woehr
1. I installed ubuntu-desktop-minimal.
2. I did sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm3 to switch from lightdm to gdm3
3. reboot
4. No display. Logging in via ssh I see:

I've tried switching around via ctl-alt F[1|2|3|4|5|6] and I can see
console terminals but no gui.

This box was working for years through a couple of upgrades until 24.04.

[Bug 2079843] Re: gdm3 fails after release upgrade, have to use lightdm

2024-09-07 Thread Jack J. Woehr
Hi @juliank ...

Yes, the SATA controller on that old Xeon box is a little strange and has been
so for at least 4 years.
This never affected the Gnome desktop before.
I installed lightdm as a workaround and it comes up okay.
I wonder what is wrong with gdm3.

I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04

The gdm3 desktop does not come up.

I tried uninstalling gdm3 and reinstalling, which did not change the

[Bug 2077959] [NEW] nautilus crashes when trying to open a folder

2024-08-27 Thread J Chapman
Public bug reported:

I was looking for a picture to send, navigated to the /Pictures/ folder, tried
to open a folder where the picture was located and nautilus crashes, tried
using from terminal with the same results.
The folder has only one jpg pic in it.
It doesn't happen with every folder in the pictures directory and it seems only
to happen in the pictures directory.
The folders in the pictures directory that cause the crash are accessible when
using, for example 'image viewer' so the issue seems to be specific to nautilus.
I installed Thunar to see if the problem would occur in a different app but
Thunar works when opening the folders in question. \
I have rm the tracker3 folder, restarted tracker3, reinstalled libglib2.0-0 and
tried a couple of other basics,
The crashes persist.

[Bug 2074158] Re: apache2 fails to start : error path in file php8.2.load

2024-07-28 Thread J-Paul BERARD
** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 24.04 (upgraded from a fresh install of 23.10) with MySQL-server,
  php, apache2, etc

  Impossible to connect to localhost.
  In fact : apache2 fails to start because of an error line 3 in file
etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php8.2.load
  This line link to /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp8.2.so and this file doesn't
exist anymore.

  It's now libphp8.3.so

  If I fix this line in this 1st file, apache2 run again !

  So configuration mistake in file php8.2.load

[Bug 2074158] [NEW] apache2 fails to start : error path in file php8.2.load

2024-07-26 Thread J-Paul BERARD
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 24.04 (upgraded from a fresh install of 23.10) with MySQL-server,
php, apache2, etc

Impossible to connect to localhost.
In fact : apache2 fails to start because of an error line 3 in file
etc/apache2/mods-enabled/php8.2.load
This line link to /usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp8.2.so and this file doesn't
exist anymore.

It's now libphp8.3.so

If I fix this line in this 1st file, apache2 run again !

So configuration mistake in file php8.2.load

[Bug 1988345] Re: apt update not updating

2024-07-20 Thread Peter J. Mello
This bug has no demonstrated relationship to src:local-apt-repository,
rather it cites a snippet of terminal output that is clearly the
official remote Ubuntu package archives. Closing as invalid.

** Changed in: local-apt-repository (Ubuntu)

[Bug 2073587] [NEW] Unable to install obs-color-monitor due to broken dependencies

2024-07-19 Thread Salve J. Nilsen
Public bug reported:

Hei!

I'm trying to install `obs-color-monitor` on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, but it
fails with the following error:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 obs-studio : Conflicts: libobs0
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

My current version of obs-studio is 30.2.0-0obsproject1~noble, installed from

`https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/obsproject/obs-studio/ubuntu
noble/main amd64 Packages`

...so it looks like the dependency requirement in obs-color-monitor to have
`obs-studio (>= 29)` does not hold anymore.

Maybe time to do another release? :-)

I can see the updated package in oracular, but noble is still at
1.7.12-0ubuntu4.

Well the package be updated in noble as well? Without, I wouldn't
consider that fixed.

Thanks for your efforts, cheers!

Thank You for your response Matthew

I will be open to trying the new mainline stream 6.10-rc4.
Should I put my Nvidia in X.Org Server mode, or will it still not work?

[Bug 2071537] Re: kubuntu 24.04 freezes when AC plug into laptop

2024-06-30 Thread Kashad J Turner-Warren
I plug my AC adapter into my laptop, and it freezes again.
I took a picture of my phone's output before the laptop froze completely.

I have updated the report.
I believe it is the 'acpi' package.

I run 'sudo journalctl -f | grep 'acpi'. this is the output:

[Bug 2069792] Re: lyx segfaults upon opening a .lyx file

2024-06-26 Thread J B
I was able to narrow the issue down to a bibtex entry with over 1000 co-authors:
https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2023PhRvX..13a1048A/exportcitation

I am using the imsart-nameyear bibtex style from here
https://github.com/vtex-soft/texsupport.ims-aos/

Running bibtex is slow, but does finish.

[Bug 2070124] [NEW] Night light & brightness reset

2024-06-23 Thread M J D
Public bug reported:

Night light and screen brightness seem to reset after suspend.
Night light button in top-bar menu panel fails to enable/disable nightlight on
toggle.
Night light only responds when through Settings > Screen Display > Night light,
and moving the slider.

Monitor brightness is also not remembered and resets to 53%

[Bug 2069792] [NEW] lyx segfaults upon opening a .lyx file

2024-06-18 Thread J B
Public bug reported:

Running:
$ lyx mlfriendsonly2.lyx
gives a segfault. Other lyx files work fine, and this file used to work fine
last year.

1) $ lsb_release -rd
No LSB modules are available.
Description:Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
Release:24.04

2) $ apt-cache policy lyx
lyx:
  Installed: 2.4.0~RC3-1build4
  Candidate: 2.4.0~RC3-1build4
  Version table:
 *** 2.4.0~RC3-1build4 500
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu noble/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) the GUI to open
4) segfault

I enabled apport following the instructions (enabled=1, commenting out
problem_types line, but apport does not pop up). So I am using valgrind and gdb
and attaching them below.

Strangely this crash also caused wayland to crash, before I uninstalled snapd.

[Bug 2067816] [NEW] Delayed audio start/stop after Ubuntu 24.04 upgrade, slow pipewire

2024-06-01 Thread J B
Public bug reported:

Anytime I either

* make any bell noise in my gnome terminal, or
* mute/unmute/change volume in gnome, or
* start, pause or continue a video on firefox

I get
1) the quiet but audible pop that you hear when audio is unmuted
2) **a ~5 second (!) delay**
3) the sound playing

When stopping the sound, the same happens in reverse order, with a
shorter delay.

I suspect that the audio system (pipewire) is opening and closing an
interface, and has perhaps some driver issues? How can I debug this
annoying delay?

journalctl shows during such an event:

In Windows, delete the entry in Windows Environment:
In Windows Settings, search for environment | Choose "Edit system environment
variables"
Select "Environment Variables" and under "System Variables," DELETE the
environment variable MOZ_NO_REMOTE
It doesn't matter whether the variable value is set to 0 or to 1 — the mere
presence of the variable appears to cause this problem, including if you try to
send an email from Thunderbird from any browser.

[Bug 2066347] [NEW] Thunderbird Snap cannot access profile outside home after 24.04 upgrade

2024-05-22 Thread J B
Public bug reported:

After upgrading yesterday to 24.04, thunderbird would not open. I got
the error "Thunderbird is already running, but not responding". In the
terminal, it looks like this:

$ thunderbird

is provided by GTK natively. Please try to not load it.

thunderbird/url-classifier-skip-urls getLastModified() IndexedDB:   The
operation failed for reasons unrelated to the database itself and not covered
by any other error code.", "resource://services-settings/IDBHelpers.jsm", 18))

The cause of this is that in ~/.thunderbird/profiles.ini I list a
profile path that is outside /home in a data directory that sees regular
back ups.

thunderbird is in snap now, and snaps are hardcoded
(https://askubuntu.com/questions/1033344/how-to-give-snaps-access-to-
somedir) to permit no data access beyond /home.

This is the reason it could not start any more.

A possible way forward is to make the data access of snaps configurable.

In the meanwhile, I uninstalled the snap-thunderbird and installed
deb-thunderbird following
https://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2024/03/install-thunderbird-deb-ubuntu-2404/

[Bug 2065423] Re: Update AppArmor template to allow confined runc to kill containers

2024-05-21 Thread Christopher J. Ruwe
I am to some extend amazed considering so few users participate in this
discussion.

I'd expect every user of Kubernetes, using containerd and app_armor on
an Ubuntu 24.04 to be affected. To get my clusters in a sustainable
state, I deactivated app_armor for containerd as a stop-gap measure,
expecting the need for bumping containerd to be high and an updated
package to appear soon.

Am I in some respect wrong in my assumption? Is running K8S on 24.04
with app_armor-ed containerd an edge case?

Thanks for your consideration.

[Bug 2064007] Re: execve from NetworkManager fails - wrong path in app-armor profile?

2024-05-12 Thread Christopher J. Ruwe
Hi Seth,

sorry to reply that late, had been rather occupied @dayjob. Thanks for your
explanation. Th system I noticed the problem on is a box which I steadily bump
since 20.4, perhaps even since 19.10. I did not notice the change of the
default DHCP-client and do not have any particular fondness for the one over
the other, so I just changed the DHCP client.

I will not have the time required to implement and accompany a fix for
the ISC DHCP-client, regrettably.

In any case, thank you very much for your effort.

[Bug 2064115] Re: Conflict between apparmor and guix on Ubuntu 24.04

2024-04-29 Thread W. J. van der Laan
Looks like this is a case of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/apparmor/+bug/2046844

What does work as a workaround is to create a specifc apparmor profile
for guix, that is really unconfined and allows user namespaces:

Create a file /etc/apparmor.d/guix:

abi ,
include

profile guix /usr/bin/guix flags=(unconfined) {
  userns,

  # Site-specific additions and overrides. See local/README for details.
  include if exists
}

Then do:

/etc/init.d/apparmor reload
aa-enforce guix

[Bug 2064115] Re: Conflict between apparmor and guix on Ubuntu 24.04

2024-04-29 Thread W. J. van der Laan
Uninstalling `apparmor` and rebooting is the only thing i have found
that makes it work.

Selectively disabling the specific rulset with:

# aa-disable unprivileged_userns

Gives a new error:

$ guix environment -C
guix environment: warning: no packages specified; creating an empty environment
guix environment: error: clone: 2114060305: Permission denied

Same for temporarily turning off apparmor entirely.

[Bug 2064115] [NEW] Conflict between apparmor and guix on Ubuntu 24.04

2024-04-29 Thread W. J. van der Laan
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 24.04 i'm unable to use GNU guix as installed from the apt
repository.

Version:
Package: guix
Architecture: amd64
Version: 1.4.0-6build1

To reproduce:
- Install a fresh 23.10 host
- Upgrade to 24.04 with do-release-upgrade -d (but i’ve heard reports that this
also happens with clean 24.04 install), reboot
- `apt-install guix`
- Create an unprivileged user with adduser
- `guix environment -C` as the user gives:
```
$ guix environment -C
guix environment: warning: no packages specified; creating an empty environment
