2012-04-18 Thread Jürgen Sauer
This bug crashes also early test servers.

(April 2012) a installed (test) server is unusable!

Get real!

Test the stuff bevfore putting it into open Repositories!

This Bug breaks release schedule for precise, it's critical!

Systems with an GPT Partitiontable are real, those are live. Such

[Bug 876399] [NEW] kdm upstart profile

2011-10-17 Thread Jürgen Sauer
Public bug reported:

kdm should be started later, after Networking is up and Remote
Filesystems are also up.

Reason: in Enterprise environments a Desktop system is used by non-admin users.
After showing up the logon screen an successful logon of a user must be
possible.
Nearly all Linux Entrerprise Desktops are using IMHO NIS+NFS. So an user Logon
may show/usable after User Athorisation (NIS) and the User $HOME (normally
served as NFS) is avaible.

in /etc/init/kdm.conf should read as follow:
- xxx
[ ... ]
start on ((filesystem
   and runlevel [!06]
   and local-filesystems and remote-filesystems and net-device-up
   and started dbus
   and (drm-device-added card0 PRIMARY_DEVICE_FOR_DISPLAY=1
or stopped udev-fallback-graphics))
  or runlevel PREVLEVEL=S)
[...]

This closes here also Bug #599812 (NIS Problem).

BTW: It silences the Helpdesk lines dramatically ...

[Bug 751220] [NEW] NFS Server reaches much too High load

2011-04-05 Thread Jürgen Sauer
Public bug reported:

jojo@pc2:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS
Release:10.04

Found on this kernels:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4174144 2011-03-02 03:47
/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-30-generic-pae
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4427232 2011-01-26 01:49
/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-25-generic-pae
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4669168 2011-03-29 00:57
/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-7-generic-pae

Circumstances:
- NFS-Kernel-Server
- Gigabit NIC
- Client Lucid 10.04.2 LTS

Client mounted a share from the server.
i.e.: mount server:/video /mnt -o rsize=32768,wsize=32768

Doing this on Client:
root@vdr:/mnt# dd if=/dev/zero bs=1M of=zero.file.de count=1024
1024+0 Datensätze ein
1024+0 Datensätze aus
1073741824 Bytes (1,1 GB) kopiert, 73,4087 s, 14,6 MB/s

causes a load average of:
top - 11:54:00 up 23:26, 4 users, load average: 6.32, 1.87, 0.79

Compared to the same dir exported via samba:
top - 11:57:52 up 23:30, 4 users, load average: 1.97, 1.53, 0.86
root@vdr:/video# dd if=/dev/zero bs=1M of=zero2.file.de count=1024
1024+0 Datensätze ein
1024+0 Datensätze aus
1073741824 Bytes (1,1 GB) kopiert, 64,4172 s, 16,7 MB/s

And nearly a deney of service is if bigger files are copied:
NFS-Kernel-Server-Share, Server:
top - 12:09:06 up 23:42, 3 users, load average: 16.05, 5.80, 2.86
Client/vdr:
root@vdr:/mnt# rsync -aP filme/vdr/%Unser_taeglich_Gift .
sending incremental file list
%Unser_taeglich_Gift/
%Unser_taeglich_Gift/2011-03-26.14.25.99.99.rec/
%Unser_taeglich_Gift/2011-03-26.14.25.99.99.rec/001.vdr
2097532591 100% 7.16MB/s 0:04:39 (xfer#1, to-check=6/9)
[copy removed after test]

On Samba Samba Share:
top - 12:12:29 up 23:45, 3 users, load average: 2.09, 4.23, 2.87
auf dem client:
root@vdr:/video# rsync -aP filme/vdr/%Unser_taeglich_Gift .
sending incremental file list

%Unser_taeglich_Gift/
%Unser_taeglich_Gift/2011-03-26.14.25.99.99.rec/
%Unser_taeglich_Gift/2011-03-26.14.25.99.99.rec/001.vdr
729841664 34% 8.45MB/s 0:02:38

Look like an load regression on copying big files on the nfs-client. Compared
to same file export
the NFS-kernel-server load is up to 8-times bigger.

This behavior had frozen/DOS a couple servers here.

The problem is also occouring, if the bridged devices are not touched in any
case.
Nothing was happening on the host side - all though the problem occours
somewhat sometimes randomally.

That is a ver, very, very nasty DOS bug - makes lucid complete unusable
as virtual hosting plattform.

[Bug 605851] [NEW] bridge is freezing in conjunction to qemu-kvm

2010-07-15 Thread Jürgen Sauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bridge-utils

See cross referenc to:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu-kvm/+bug/584048

Symptom is that the network off an virtualized server is freezed.

As: angriukas wrote on 2010-06-02: #3
Probably network freeze occur because of adding (on guest start-up) created
tun/tap interface to the bridge.

This is a huge problem.

[Bug 584048] Re: kvm images losing connectivity w/bridged network

2010-07-15 Thread Jürgen Sauer
Also here, it is a huge problem, which costs much money. such a nasty bug!
If in virtual servers are the network interfaces freezing - this is not amusing.
This bus stale a whole production server range!

Any ideas further ?

[Bug 605851] [NEW] bridge is freezing in conjunction to qemu-kvm

2010-07-15 Thread Jürgen Sauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bridge-utils

See cross referenc to:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu-kvm/+bug/584048

Symptom is that the network off an virtualized server is freezed.

As: angriukas wrote on 2010-06-02: #3
Probably network freeze occur because of adding (on guest start-up) created
tun/tap interface to the bridge.

This is a huge problem.

[Bug 595417] [NEW] openoffice crash on key F4 (Database viewer)

2010-06-17 Thread Jürgen Sauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-kde

In konsole I have opened oowriter like that (openoffice.org-kde) is
installed and an plain vanilla user environment $HOME/.openoffice.org is
moved away. After having an empty document on screen, I just hit F4
for opening database.

j...@pc8:~$ oowriter # on X11 Display I was hitting F4
j...@pc8:~$ QPaintDevice: Cannot destroy paint device that is being painted

After doing that, OO restarts with the crashrecovery tool and is going
to recover my empty document.

This behavior is not visible, if openoffice.org-kde is purged. But reappears
after reinstalling.
Environment is kubuntu-desktop.

This is an vital bug due it hit a big bunch of production machines
(about more than 200 installations).
