[Bug 318942] Re: no sound from speakers on HP Mini 1000 (hda-intel, IDT 92HD75B2X5)
Hi all, I have an HP 6530b notebook with the following codecs: $ egrep 'Codec:|Subsystem Id:' /proc/asound/card*/codec#* /proc/asound/card0/codec#0:Codec: Analog Devices AD1984A /proc/asound/card0/codec#0:Subsystem Id: 0x103c360d /proc/asound/card0/codec#1:Codec: LSI ID 1040 /proc/asound/card0/codec#1:Subsystem Id: 0x103c1378 Like others, I had the problem of sound not coming out from the laptop speakers, but sound worked from the headphone jack. I'm running Jaunty with: kernel 2.6.28-14-generic alsa-base 10.0.18.dsfg-1ubuntu8 alsa-utils 1.0.18-1ubuntu11 The solution I found that worked for me is much simpler than the fixes proposed in this thread; no special kernel, no recompiling of alsa sources, no download of special alsa package. Instead I followed the directions here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/269027/comments/31 I'm passing this along in hopes that it helps others too. -Jeff -- no sound from speakers on HP Mini 1000 (hda-intel, IDT 92HD75B2X5) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/318942 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 269027] Re: No sound from Laptop speakers, but headphones. my solution
My HP Compaq nc6530b has the same audio codecs (AD1984A, LSI ID 1040) as the HP 6735b described in Jarl's comment (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/269027/comments/31). His solution works for me too. -- No sound from Laptop speakers, but headphones. my solution https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269027 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 192822] Re: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 8c42a6a8
I wanted to follow up on this closed report because it may be useful to others who come after me. I finally decided to upgrade. But when going from Gutsy to Hardy, I encountered many unusual installation errors -- lots of "subprocess pre- removal script returned error exit status XXX" messages. This left the system in a partially upgraded state. Intrepid Ibex had just been released so I thought I'd start over and install it from scratch, erasing and reformatting the system partitions in the process. But, near the end of the installation from the Intrepid CDROM, another "subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 139" error occurred. At this point I was convinced I was looking at a hardware problem. I ran memtest86 (the one shipped with Intrepid) and it reported errors executing Test 8 [Modulo 20, random pattern]. I pulled out a DIMM and am rerunning the test to confirm that I've found the bad one. [Bug 192822] [NEW] unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 8c42a6a8
Public bug reported: Here is a bug that manifests itself as a kernel oops: unable to handle kernel paging request. I suspect that this bug is in a driver supplied by mythbuntu. The bug first appeared several months ago. I had performed a fresh install of Gutsy and everything was working fine. After I installed mythbuntu--about three months ago--the kernel oops started to appear. In the last two months, my system has encountered 14 of these oopses: Dec 14 11:55:12 mediabox kernel: [48114.538874] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 8f404c28 Dec 16 14:15:01 mediabox kernel: [150236.196011] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 802fee14 Dec 16 14:15:01 mediabox kernel: [150236.198882] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 802fee14 Dec 16 14:15:01 mediabox kernel: [150236.202318] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 802fee14 Jan 27 01:35:03 mediabox kernel: [ 9029.617159] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 802fed94 Jan 27 01:35:03 mediabox kernel: [ 9029.620389] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 802fed94 Jan 27 01:35:03 mediabox kernel: [ 9029.623749] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 802fed94 Jan 28 17:55:02 mediabox kernel: [153975.920212] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 802fee04 Jan 28 17:55:02 mediabox kernel: [153975.920571] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 802fee14 Jan 28 17:55:02 mediabox kernel: [153975.920900] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 802fee14 Jan 16 15:30:09 mediabox kernel: [449582.040775] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 8c630e38 Jan 19 09:40:01 mediabox kernel: [687346.787857] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 802fee14 Jan 19 09:40:01 mediabox kernel: [687346.792774] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 802fee14 Feb 13 06:45:08 mediabox kernel: [166187.625765] BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 8c42a6a8 (This report is only about the last oops that happened on Feb 13.) I have performed several kernel upgrades and the bug has not gone away. The system is currently running: # uname -a \Linux mediabox 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Tue Dec 18 08:02:57 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux After a while I began to notice a pattern: if I put a high load on the system, the oops is more likely to occur. If the load is light, several days can pass. I researched other bug reports which may be related. I found two that might be, because they both have TV video hardware: Bug 120842 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/135416 Bug 135416 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/120842 Further details are attached: dmesg, lspci, kern.log, and so on. # cat /etc/lsb-release DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=7.10 DISTRIB_CODENAME=gutsy DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 7.10" -Jeff ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 8c42a6a8 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192822 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
