[Bug 1816196] [NEW] okular version in repository is too old, and fails with embedded movies
Public bug reported: The okular version in the repositories is version 1.3.3, but the current version is 1.7. The version in the repos is more than a year old, and had known bugs at the time that it was adopted there (apparently to the frustration of the maintainers of okular). And this version, does not have even the capabilities of the older version that was in the repos for Ubuntu 16.04, at least as regards movies. It is a bit frustrating to have a functionality that worked beautifully for years, that then goes away, and there is no apparent concern on anybody's part. If you want one that is current and works with embedded movies, you could try the snap package. This version is a bit more recent (1.6.6), but somehow is even worse, since it just crashes if you try to run an embedded movie. You might want to compile it. That was fun. It required installing a bunch of stuff, being careful not to ruin my existing library. Waited several hours to compile, and then find out it didn't work for some reason. [Bug 1597792] Re: plasmashell high CPU usage (100%+)
While I am annoying everyone with my spleen venting, let me add one more thing. I can no longer mount my network shared folders automatically either. There is a nice new feature on dolphin to add these as samba shares pretty easily. But, this is not sufficient for Amarok to see them. They have to be mounted as if they were local directories, and this has to be done by hand every time the computer is rebooted. Then amarok needs to start after doing this, or it will think all of the music has been deleted. Which means that it needs to be restarted by hand. Therefore none of the remote bits for amarok work either. So, now I have lost my music playing set up. Neither Amarok nor logitech work any more with this computer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1597792 Title: plasmashell high CPU usage (100%+) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plasma-workspace/+bug/1597792/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1597792] Re: plasmashell high CPU usage (100%+)
Adding to my comment. My upgrade has been a mini-disaster. First, the upgrade from 14.04 repeatedly failed. So, I just did a fresh install. This was not too bad, because I had previously formatted my drive to keep home directories separate. I also had an external backup. Finally, I also used aptik to help install software. That worked partially, and mitigated the pain, somewhat. However, now audio works only sporadically, and requires that I do an "alsa force-reload" on a regular basis to get it to work. I often have to go to system settings to reset everything. Sometimes that reset isn't saved, and it still does not work. Given that the problem is sporadic, I am hesitant to ask for help, because that would require lots of homework on my end, which I don't really have the time for right now. Possibly related to this is that squeezesoft sometimes starts eating up tons of resources, and I have to restart the service. I also have your problem of plasma eating up lots of CPU and everything is often slow. Sometimes the whole screen just freezes for about 20 seconds, and I have to wait for even typing to catch up. I have tried some of the solutions on the web, but that hasn't worked. I built this particular desktop to be friendly with linux. Since this is a fresh install, the problems out of the starting box are particularly disappointing. I hate microsoft windows, and don't want to enter the closed ecosystem of apple. But, linux requires this constant sort of maintenance, that I often need to avoid. Fortunately, this desktop is my sort of test case for such upgrades, and it did not really pass. I have already spent way too much time trying to get things working. I will avoid updating my other machines to 16.04, and only update when the support on 14.04 runs out. Not sure what I will do then, but certainly try to find some version that focuses more on stability. [Bug 1610293] [NEW] mic cartoon voice
Public bug reported: I have one sort of typical problem, and one very strange problem, both related to the audio. First the typical one, because, clearly, the strange one is the headlining act here. Typical kind of problem: My system keeps changing from audio line out, to hdmi out as the default choice, and I have to keep moving it back by hand from systemsettings. It seems to be related to squeezelite, but am not sure. Strange problem: After updating to 16.04, my microphone transmits only a strange, helium inflected cartoon voice when I speak. This strange transmission works with arecord or ffmpeg from command line, and with skype testing service. The latter convinces me that it is not a recording issue, but really a sound capture issue. Pulseaudio will not allow me to select my external microphone jack, though there is a microphone plugged in. It appears to use my webcam (logitech C310) mic. There was no such problem last week under 14.04. I cannot think of any other tests to perform. If it were allowed, I would upload a short recording of my voice, primarily for your amusement. [Bug 965371] Re: HTTPS requests fail on sites which immediately close the connection if TLS 1.1 negotiation is attempted, on Ubuntu 12.04
@bradley-will: I appreciate the helpful suggestion, but the PHP libs I am interested in are not in any way related to SOAP or PHP's implementation of SoapClient. The thing I'm interested in is LDAP. There is a chain of libraries that PHP uses to get LDAPS working. PHP -> uses OpenLDAP -> which uses GnuTLS (On Ubuntu) In the past, I tried recompiling OpenLDAP against OpenSSL, and this fixed PHP, so I know that the chain I described is correct (well, is correct for Ubuntu 10.04. I'm assuming it is true for 12.04 as well) In any case, when OpenLDAP is recompiled against OpenSSL, the chain of libs I'm interested in is: PHP -> uses OpenLDAP -> which uses OpenSSL Is there a system-wide configuration way to force PHP's LDAP libs to use TLSv1.0? So far I have not found an answer. Finally, is there a way to get GnuTLS to work against the above described SSL services? GnuTLS has similar problems connecting to SSL services as described in this bug for OpenSSL. Is there a bug open for GnuTLS somewhere about this? Thanks -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/965371 Title: HTTPS requests fail on sites which immediately close the connection if TLS 1.1 negotiation is attempted, on Ubuntu 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openssl/+bug/965371/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 965371] Re: HTTPS requests fail on sites which immediately close the connection if TLS 1.1 negotiation is attempted, on Ubuntu 12.04
This bug still exists in 12.04. My understanding of the technical details of this bug is a bit shallow, so some of my questions, below, may reflect that. It affects other libraries which use or are recompiled against this library. In my case, I am having an issue with the OpenLDAP libs which suffer from a similar bug that affects the GnuTLS libs. In earlier versions of Ubuntu, I recompiled the libldap packages using OpenSSL libs. Now, that is no longer successful. What can be done as a workaround on a firewall or other SSL-enabled service to make clients using this library work? Unfortunately, forcing ldapsearch to use TLSv1.0 is not a configurable option that I could find in either in GnuTLS, OpenLDAP, or OpenSSL. So, to sum up, my questions are: 1) Is there any hope of having this be fixed "properly", where "properly" follows the "don't break userspace" philosophy? 2) What workarounds are there on the server end? What, for example, would have to happen to make a broken server work? Why do some SSL-enabled services work and some don't? 3) *Is* there a way to configure client libs to force TLSv1.0? The OpenSSL s_client has a CLI option, but I'm asking what can I put in, say, /etc/ldap/ldap.conf or /opt/ssl/ssl.conf or the like to force this? I'm happy to provide additional debugging data as requested.
