[Bug 1885530] Re: password doesn't leave dots on being entered

2021-11-05 Thread JT Moree
I am not able to see the password dots unless i highlight the text in
the text box. Also when the screen goes 'gray?' the dots show up. This
happens after clicking the login button or hitting enter.

My hardware is : Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Picasso (rev
c4).

It seems like the bug comments are suggesting that the problems are
related to fancy hardware features. If so, can I set the login screen to
turn off hardware acceleration?

[Bug 1931146] Re: installer crash on manual partitioning when using encryption

2021-07-07 Thread JT Moree
This may be a duplicate of an eight year old bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1510731. The
workaround is to use the gtk_ui

1. Install ubiquity-frontend-gtk;
2. run "ubiquity gtk_ui"

options are not exactly the same but close enough to get install with
LUKS root.

Be aware that another bug causes the installer to RECREATE existing
LUKS partitions even if you CANCEL the install. DO NOT use ubiquity to
manage crypto partitions for an install of Kubuntu/Ubuntu on existing
LUKS partitions. Instead, use luksOpen yourself before running
ubiquity.

[Bug 1931146] Re: installer crash on manual partitioning when using encryption

2021-06-16 Thread JT Moree
FYI. I can install if I create LVM volumes on top of the crypto part
but bootup with LVM and LUKS is complex so it fails. This is probably
not the fault of the installer but I'm still working on that approach as
a workaround to not having direct access to the crypto part in the
installer.

Another approach might be to manually mount /target on the crypto parts
before install. Can we tell ubiquity to skip partitioning and just
install to a mount point?

[Bug 1931146] Re: installer crash on manual partitioning when using encryption

2021-06-09 Thread JT Moree
When I manually create the luks partition and label it as such ubiquity
crashes when I then try to setup /boot. If I setup /boot first it does
not crash and I can then assign a crypto partition. But that's it. The
installer will not let me do anything else with a crypo partition. If I
cannot choose it as / then I can't install to it.

I tried clicking install now after assigning /boot and crypto but
nothing happens.

Also, after doing the above steps if I click Back the installer crashes
with 'An error occurred while creating the keyfile.'

[Bug 1931146] Re: installer crash on manual partitioning when using encryption

2021-06-07 Thread JT Moree
I just ran an install where I don't use LUKs and it works. seems that in
addition to the installer not allowing me to fully configure encrypted
partitions it also crashes configuring other partitions when one of them is set
to use encryption.
to reproduce
* create partitions before install
* start install
* move through setup to partitioning. choose manual
* choose one of the partitions and change it to use encryption
* choose another partition and click Edit. Choose to format and assign it as
/boot'
* click OK and crash

** Summary changed:

- installer crash on manual partitioning
+ installer crash on manual partitioning when using encryption

[Bug 1931146] [NEW] installer crash on manual partitioning

2021-06-07 Thread JT Moree
Public bug reported:

I am attempting a fresh install on a dual boot setup. currently using
windows 10 and Kubuntu 20.04. I am also using LUKS but the installer
doesn't really seem to support it--even the old manual setup-- so I
might have to downgrade to 20.10.

I have existing partitions so I choose manual but when I attempt to
assign partitions and tell the system to format it crashes. In this
case I was assigning /boot as a plain partition with nothing special
and when clicking OK it crashes. I don't even get to the Install Now
button. it crashes editing the /boot partition.

[Bug 184489] Re: Can't change titlebar color in SystemSettings-KDE4

2012-03-04 Thread JT Moree
Found a workaround:

System Settings -> Workspace Appearance And Behavior -> Workspace
Appearance -> Window Decorations -> Configure Decortions (button) ->
Fine Tuning -> [x] Outline active window title

I turn this on and get a colored titlebar in Air/Oxygen themes.

Know this is an old thread but posting for others researching this topc. The
link provided details a long disagreement between KDE artists who want desktop
to look pretty and users who want to actually be able to distinguish between
active/inactive windows.

In my case I think the color is not so much the issue as my video card
does not seem to be rendering properly. (i think this is also a big
part of the disagreement)

[Bug 922684] [NEW] Xorg crash

2012-01-27 Thread JT Moree
Public bug reported:

X crashes when I edit/create a large comment in SQLyog.
http://www.webyog.com/en/. I am using the Enterprise edition but the
free community edition should work the same way. Even if it does not, a
badly behaving program should not consistently crash Xwindows.

To recreate the problem:
*  install WINE
* download and install the Free/Trial Edition of SQLyog
* Connect to a mysql 4 database
* Right Click on a table -> Alter table
* Edit the comment field for any column and start adding characters
* After a few hundred characters Xwindows will crash back to the login screen

I am using an intel video card with stock X drivers. Just updated
Xwindows with update manager and tested.

[Bug 51322] Re: missing packages that are available in apt

Just to clarify because this almost sounds like NO packages will show
up. That is not the case. I installed firefox and thunderbird from

nvidia packages) don't show up.

[Bug 51322] missing packages that are available in apt

2006-06-29 Thread JT Moree
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: adept

Using Dapper Kubuntu release 6.06 for amd64 installed from DVD I cannot
get Adept (in Kubuntu) to show some packages that exist in apt-cache
search so I keep having to install them with sudo apt-get install foo .
. . . I am choosing the Add Remove programs from the menu.

For example,
nvidia-glx
linux-image-2.6.15-25-am64-k8
nvu
and other packages wont show up when I search for them. Sometimes a category
will show up but no packages will be listed. For example nvu in the Search
field shows a Development Category on the left hand side but no package shows
up. (I dont remember if it did this before I installed it manually with
apt-get.)

I do NOT have universe enabled in my sources but I have the checkboxes
for Show Unsupported and proprietary checked and Any Suite next to the
search field.

Also, there is no way to manage apt sources from within any of the menus
in Adept. Should there be?
