[Bug 251107] Re: [Intrepid] nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: AllocateScreenPrivateIndex

2008-11-25 Thread Jackdaw28
Re: macro182: I had the same problem on another system with a Geforce
7300GT. No nvidia driver would install properly after an upgrade from
Hardy. I tried everything to no avail. On a clean install of Intrepid
the 177 driver worked fine and was installed through Hardware Drivers
(jockey.) I think that there is a separate bug in the upgrade process.

I'm having the same problem as TitoN, the Wine problem resolved with the
suggested fixes above.

Ori Avtalion: I can hibernate and resume and suspend and resume with this
driver.
I don't want to teach you how to suck eggs but have you added Option "NvAGP"
"1" to devices:
i.e.:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Device0"
Driver "nvidia"
VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
Option "UseDisplayDevice" "DFP"
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "true"
Option "NvAGP" "1"
EndSection

I suspect the wine font problem is a regression to this old nvidia bug
detailed here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=258964

The picture of winecfg looks like mine.
It's a bit of a deal breaker if wine cannot be used.

[Bug 251107] Re: [Intrepid] nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: AllocateScreenPrivateIndex

2008-11-03 Thread Jackdaw28
The 96 driver works with my Geforce4 Go 440 64MB, however the fonts are
now corrupt with wine, even in winecfg itself. This is not a missing
fonts issue because the fonts are correct again if I revert to the "nv"
driver. Also whether or not compiz is enabled makes no difference. I did
not have this problem with the nvidia driver and Hardy.

[Bug 190436] [NEW] Cannot change desktop icons in hardy alpha 4

2008-02-09 Thread Jackdaw28
Public bug reported:

I've just performed a clean install from the alternative installer for ubuntu
i366 hardy alpha 4. If I add a launcher from the menu to the desktop (e.g.
firefox or gnome terminal) I get the launcher without an icon - just an empty
sheet of paper icon. The launcher works however.
Right clicking on the icon to select properties and then selecting the "Basic"
tab should allow me to change the icon. However, the option is not there -
clicking on the icon on the basic tab does not open a window to change it. It
is not possible to change from the sheet of paper at all. However, if I right
click on the desktop and manually add a launcher such as firefox, the firefox
icon is correctly displayed. However, again, there is no option to change the
icon. Some applications will display the correct icon such as OpenOffice.org
Word Processor. However, the icon in the basic tab is locked and cannot be
changed.
Oddly, if I add a launcher from the menu to the panel there is no problem.

[Bug 153743] Re: Find errors while installing linux-image-2.6.22-14-server package

2007-12-09 Thread Jackdaw28
Hi Leann,
This was the cause of my netgear wg511 not working:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/152477
I just manually created the directory /lib/firmware/2.6.24-1-generic and copied
the firmware file over from 2.6.22. This fixed the wireless problem for me.

[Bug 152477] Re: Xubuntu Gutsy release candidate very slow

2007-12-04 Thread Jackdaw28
Leann, the speed issues have been resolved in this kernel. Also suspend to ram
works (it didn't work in feisty or gutsy, but did in edgy.)
All in all a great result, except that my Netgear WG511 v1 (prism54) card no
longer works. The attached dmesg shows the error (at the end of the file.)
Many thanks.

Thanks for your suggestion Leann.
Unfortunately neither "lapic" nor "acpi=off" make any difference to the speed.

It seems to me as though it's not using the processor properly - there is no
thrashing of the hard drive.

I've done a clean install from the alternate installer for the release

[Bug 152477] Xubuntu Gutsy release candidate very slow

2007-10-13 Thread Jackdaw28
Public bug reported:

I've just upgraded from Xubuntu Feisty to Gutsy on my old Toshiba
Portege 3440 CT (mobile pentium III 500 MHz, 192 MB ram.) It ran well on
Edgy and Feisty but is painfully slow with Gutsy. It is virtually
unusable. The problem seems to lie with the kernel (2.6.22-14-generic).
If I boot Gutsy with the Feisty kernel (2.6.20-16-generic) the speed
issues are gone. I'm at a loss as to what to do next.

[Bug 77990] Re: [feisty] cdrom double entries

2007-03-31 Thread Jackdaw28
I have the same problem on a Samsung X10 laptop.
I could not do a fresh install becuase the alternative installer could not
mount the cdrom despite booting from it to begin with.
After an online upgrade from Edgy I now have a phantom cdrom icon on the
desktop and no access to the real one.
A bit of searching reveals that this is a common problem with Feisty.
