[Bug 400088] Re: Firefox not able to terminate correctly (FUTEX_WAIT_PRIVATE)

2009-10-03 Thread Jahava
At the moment this is anecdotal, but I have experienced this problem
through the entire Firefox 3.0+ lines. Recently, I was addressing some
KDE4 graphical glitches that occurred when using GTK applications:

System Settings -> Appearance -> GTK Styles and Fonts:
"GTK Styles": Usage another style: "QtCurve"
(Hit "Apply" and restart any GTK+ Applications, including Firefox; in the event
of this bug, make SURE the process is terminated via 'ps/kill' as documented in
previous comments)

After changing this, my rendering glitches in GTK applications running
in KDE4 did stop, which was awesome. Firefox was one such application
that was affected by this (being a GTK+ application).

However, I _also_ have noticed (so far) that all of the instances of the
process not terminating when all of its windows were closed (i.e. this
bug) have also stopped since making that change. I've even tried
changing the setting back and immediately notice the familiar "process
already running" messages reappearing.

Could someone else who is experiencing this using Kubuntu / KDE4 try
making this change and see if your results coincide with mine?

FWIW, I've done the scrollbar fix a number of times with no result ...
not to contradict you, Jesse, but rather to attempt to get a better
understanding for this problem.

[Bug 334186] Re: soprano-backend-sesame requires missing /usr/lib/libjvm.so

2009-07-12 Thread Jahava
Just chiming in to confirm this bug. I did (roughly) what Chris Samuel
described and Strigi / Nepomuk took right off. Since KDE4 has a
reasonable focus and integration with the semantic desktop, it seems
prudent to get this fix in ASAP.

It seems like it would be a Java packaging bug, as it's probably the
responsibility of the Java package to register its runtime library with
ld.so.

[Bug 279654] Re: firefox hangup while drag text in kde4

2008-12-09 Thread Jahava
I'm posting to confirm this. Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 seems to handle the text
transparency properly. Same system specs as my previous post.

[Bug 279654] Re: firefox hangup while drag text in kde4

2008-11-23 Thread Jahava
I wanted to post to confirm the bug. I'm using Kubuntu 8.10 with KDE4
and running an NVidia graphics card supported by their proprietary
drivers. 'kwin' consumes large amounts of CPU when you highlight and
drag text in Firefox. When you highlight more than a line or two, this
results it the system hanging for extended periods of time. Highlighting
just one line still has a working text-drag effect (with very high CPU
consumption).

On Windows and KDE3 with Firefox 3, the text-drag action results in the
selected area being rendered in a transparent (and, depending on the
quantity of text, scaled) form which follows the cursor around until
released. The KDE4 version (when selecting small enough quantities of
text to avoid hanging) seems to be visually similar to the KDE3 version.

You are correct when you say that it's related to desktop effects, as
disabling them completely solves the problem. Furthermore, changing the
Compositing Type from 'OpenGL' to 'XRender' also solves the problem, so
it seems like it's a KDE4/OpenGL issue that may also involve (or be
caused by) the NVidia proprietary driver.
