[Bug 317775] Re: Jaunty no poweroff/reboot on halt/reboot

2009-04-24 Thread James Dunmore
Same problem on a dell xps 1530(brand new, and clean install of 9.04
last night).

When I select shutdown/reboot it freezes and I get the flashing cursor;
however, if I then press ctrl+alt+del, it carries on and
shutsdown/reboots as normal.

I will try those upslash commands later and report if it works.

Thanks.

[Bug 275302] Re: Internet works for a minute or so, then crashes in Intrepid ibex alpha 6

2009-03-29 Thread James Dunmore
My friends laptop is having the same problem - I fixed it before by
adding the iwconfig wlan0 rate 5.5M line to /etc/rc/local, however,
since upgrading to 2.6.27-11 kernel, it has the same problem, but works
fine under 2.6.27-9 and -7

Having only limited time on a Friends laptop, I really need to find out
if anyone knows whats going on - currently only fixed by making sure the
other kernel is booted (which isn't great for my friend as he is pretty
new to Ubuntu)

Thanks

[Bug 273505] Re: crash of Xorg using xrandr

2008-11-14 Thread James Dunmore
I've deleted XORG - same issues

I've installed ubuntu-desktop - more stable, but same issues at the end
of the day (random x crashes/restart when trying to do stuff like
changing windows, resizing, etc.)

With GDM I get the following:
gdm[9168]: WARNING: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0

Which is very similar to the KDM in syslog:

kdm[5021]: X server for display :0 terminated unexpectedly

Getting quite annoying.

If anyone would like logs, etc. please let me know ASAP, because it's
getting to the stage where I'm going to have to re-install Hardy

Thanks.

[Bug 273505] Re: crash of Xorg using xrandr

2008-11-12 Thread James Dunmore
Thanks - but I've already turned this off - it was the first thing I
did.

However, I have a feeling that despite turning it off, there might be
some residual config or something similar still in place?

I did try and mv .kde .kdeTemp (and re-start X ), but still having the problems
:(

I think it is related to Plasma, because when I try to resize a plasma

Anyone any ideas, it's making intrepid kubuntu quite unusable

[Bug 218202] Re: [hardy] numlockx does not turn num lock keyboard light on.

2008-10-20 Thread James Dunmore
Confirmation here that it affects Kubuntu Hardy, using KDM as a manager,
and kde 3.5 (that is num pad works, starts in the right mode (on), but
the light is inverted); It worked in previous versions (and I followed
the upgrade route from previous versions, this is not a fresh install)

However, running numlockx on at any time sorts it out - guessing I just
need to add that to a startup script somewhere (although it is not
really a problem for me, so I haven't done this, as I would rather wait
and see when a proper patch is applied).

Thanks.

Your temporary fix "Exec=amarok -a %u" works for now though - thanks

Re: [Bug 138756] Re: kubuntu firefox should use kde print system

2008-02-28 Thread James Dunmore
Hi,

I was going to reply with screen shots, but some one already has, so
thank-you.

With KDE print system you also get the options to use the KDE functions such
a print to PDF, etc.

I do agree, this is a nice to have, rather than a bug - however, it does
stand out as odd if you haven't used Gnome (i.e you are only a KDE user).

I haven't tried Firefox 3 yet, but I look forward to it !

Thanks,
James.

[Bug 138756] kubuntu firefox should use kde print system

2007-09-10 Thread James Dunmore
Public bug reported:

When using firefox on KDE (Kubuntu), it should use the KDE print system
dialogue.

As explained here
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Integrate_Firefox_with_KDE#Printing:_KPrinter

Which is a change to the user.js on firefox to

print.printer_PostScript/Default.print_command = kprinter --stdin
print.always_print_silent   = true

This will fix it

(should also have :)
print.printer_PostScript/Default.print_paper_height= 297,00
print.printer_PostScript/Default.print_paper_name = A4
print.printer_PostScript/Default.print_paper_width = 210,00
