[Bug 1234260] [NEW] Package and use 'intel_l3_parity' binary
Public bug reported: For Haswell systems, Intel has created a new tool called 'intel_l3_parity'. They have requested that we use this so that we can make use of the l3 parity feature on these cards. Quote: DPF (L3 Parity): Haswell has extra cache which can be dynamically (during run time) used to replace cachelines which are exhibiting faulty behavior. It follows that Haswell also has the ability to detect the errors. Kernel driver receives the error interrupts and reports them to userspace via udev. The event is a parity error. Userspace should be listening for the udev events, and handling them in whatever way they see fit. We expected OSVs to add such hooks to their distributions, and use the intel_l3_parity tool to be invoked by their udev rules as needed. The code for the binary can be found here, it looks like they're planning on adding it to the linux kernel tree but afact it's not in Linus' tree yet: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.freedesktop.xorg.drivers.intel/10847/match=intel_l3_parity Also I haven't seen a udev script from them as yet. [Bug 408903] Re: Does not handle microphone mute button (KEY_MICMUTE)
right, we still need to change other components, I've tagged the verification-done because the only piece up for verification at the moment is libx11 and you verified that one, getting it in updates would put us one step closer from fixing the issue right? This is exactly right. Additionally, this requires a revert of xkeyboard-config that we have in -proposed. I'm not sure how to work that because this is my first verification-failed bug, but I assume I can just revert it. Do you need revert or extra changes? in any case the update is in precise-updates so you can't verification-failed it anymore (that's just used to get things dropped from proposed/not copied to updates), you need another upload on top of the current version This is in relation to bug #937822. Since that bug is verification- failed, we pulled the update of xkeyboard-config from the -proposed archive. But it's still living out in the launchpad bzr code archive. So specifically, my question is whether I should branch from the -updates lp archive or the -proposed lp archive (and pull the patch, as I have have done). I've ran into this situation before in bug 1011073 but cyphermox solved it for me. [Bug 408903] Re: Does not handle microphone mute button (KEY_MICMUTE)
Sebastien, Thanks for flipping the tag. As noted in comment #108 , we still need backports of udev, gnome-settings-daemon, and xkeyboard-config to close this bug out. Additionally, this requires a revert of xkeyboard-config that we have in -proposed. I'm not sure how to work that because this is my first verification-failed bug, but I assume I can just revert it. https://code.launchpad.net/~jm-leddy/ubuntu/precise/xkeyboard- config/micmute We have two vendors in addition to Lenovo that have added micmute keys since this bug has been opened, and we're shipping 12.04 as the standard for all oem builds. [Bug 1183125] Re: Haswell: Ensuring HDA codec pins refer to physical outputs
Hi Jason, Thanks for your help. Ultimately, I think there is more too it than that. These are the latest comments from our audio developer, David Henningsson, about the issue: I hope I can remember the situation correctly. This is essentially a longer version of what I wrote before. First, the unusual thing about these particular devices is that it seems the integrated monitor is internally connected over HDMI. This means that, seen from the driver's perspective, there are two HDMI outputs. This has been less tested than one HDMI output (on Haswell), but there are chances this works better in the 3.11 kernel - I'm not sure. Second, the internal monitor does not have any audio capabilities (the internal analog audio is connected to the ALC668 codec, not the HDMI monitor), but still, the internal monitor advertises audio capabilities (as seen in ELD info). This is something we could talk to the OSV about, to see if they could change this: the monitor should not advertise being able to play back audio, if it can't. Third, (maybe meant as a workaround to the just mentioned issue about ELD info?) some audio codec pins are marked as not connected by BIOS. However, this workaround is not working, at least not on Linux. This is where I've been trying to get clear answers from Intel, but still have not received any, even though we have had long discussions and even phone calls about it. In short, there seem to be uncertainty on the Intel side how their hardware actually works: First, how the audio codec pins are actually connected to the available physical outputs, pipes or transcoders. Second, if disabling pins in BIOS should be regarded as an error on the Haswell platform or not. Some Intel developers think so, but we need a clear statement from Intel that this is the case before we can tell the OEM they should change BIOS. I hope this clarifies the status of this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1183125 Title: Haswell: Ensuring HDA codec pins refer to physical outputs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/intel/+bug/1183125/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 408903] Re: Does not handle microphone mute button (KEY_MICMUTE)
Ideally, we get this SRUed to Precise. I've filled out the SRU template. It's just a bit tricky because functionality cross cuts a lot of packages. I've added branches for all of the packages that require code changes. It works something like this: 1) x11-proto gets updated with a new #define 2) install x11proto-core-dev on the build server 3) rebuild libx11 4) update the remaining linked packages: udev, gnome-settings-daemon, xkeyboard-config I've subbed sponsors for some guidance and to get x11-proto updated.
