[Bug 1441474] Re: gnome-keyring-daemon uses a lot of memory

2019-01-16 Thread James Niland
This is for Ubuntu-gnome
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS"
that also uses gnome shell although I am not sure why as it seems it does not
work either
Both Opera browser and any version of Chrome or google-chrome demand it.
However at start just below gnome-panel it is the second highest use of memory
at startup. Currently sitting at over 32Mb real and 384 virtual memory. There
is only one login is [Passwords and Keys]. Others seem unhappy with 1mb of ram,
I however wish I could get it this low.
/usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login is the command loaded.
Version gnome-keyring 3.10.1-1ubuntu4.3
Killing the process my system is entirely more responsive

[Bug 1803633] Re: package sa-compile 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 25

2018-11-20 Thread James Niland
Absolutely marvelous -- am being sarcastic :-)~
So removing only the xenial linux kernel I ended up with video but no mouse or
keyboard, so I could not get beyond login. Could not fix with grub recovery.
tries to reinstall nvidia-current and also nvidia-304, no joy. So I reinstalled
nouveau and configured xorg and as I was watching the install on the screen
(all command line) low and behold --- much to my surprise the xenial all got
reinstalled all over Conclusion is this is not invalid as it seems to me there
is an error in the install script? At this point this is a different problem
and was made apparent via sa-compile

To reiterate at o point did I ever ask or invoke an install of xenial asa this
came from some update as previously described and maybe it has to do with other
issues like I can no longer use purge or reinstall my printer or do a "make"
compile without errors. Unfortunately the default Dell c1765 is of poor quality
and resolution only 300x300. thus the compile from "http://foo2hbpl.rkkda.com/
--- foo2hbpl: a linux printer driver for HBPL protocol"
Once again I say the xenial was part of a security update form the normal
ubuntu update some time ago, maybe quite some time ago
In the end I have no resolve on operating without xenial and I checked all 3
boxes and they all have it. So this is not an sa-compile problem and I don't
really have to have it anyway after all as it is not all is could be anyway and
it does little on a desktop install.
On my server there are other ways to filter with postfix and dovecot (this
won't be done via virtualmin ever again). So perhaps this should be kicked up
the line with the question why xenial on ubuntu-gnome 14.04 desktop AMD64?
Thanks James
PS got the OS working now with nouveau installed and I think it can stay that
way for now Games are OK but liquor is quicker.

[Bug 1803633] Re: package sa-compile 3.4.2-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 25

2018-11-20 Thread James Niland
I really appreciate your efforts and time very much. Perhaps I could buy
you a cup of coffee?

As for the Xenial I am not sure how this came about and I was wondering if it
was safe to remove as it was installed one day (perhaps end of Dec 2017 on all
3 boxes) as a security update via the Ubuntu standard update that comes up
shortly after boot. This has happened to all three boxes and was NOT something
I requested or expected. I have not done anything with it as since it was part
of the update I believed it was normal. Also sometimes removing things has
unexpected consequences, sometimes, from my experience, like removing the
[evolution email] also removes desktop components that have nothing to do with
the package. So since this happens I DID hesitate removal as doing things, like
with desktop components, (I don't want or like i.e. = [Time Tracker] or
[Hamster] or [Games] or [Evolution]) have resulted in a 'FUBAR' desktop (a
mess) and having to figure out from log files what is missing so the desktop
works again.
I have been wanting to trim the fat for years now but have no method?
I am going to assume I can search synaptic just for the xenial parts, something
like [linux-...(space)...xenial], as the search characters seem to work a
little different in synaptic then nautilus or gnome-search-tool

/*
*When installing Ubuntu-server [command line] one is asked what options are/is
wanted in the setup, *but this never asked for the desktop install. Sorry I
seem to be in a rant NOW! I have to go see *the doctor today and I am not a
happy camper today :-( My basket of deplorables would be *Politicians, Lawyers
and Doctors, but I digress into a primal rage!!!
*
*Thanks for the involuntary imposition I feel better now :-) James Niland */

[nilands55s] is a common user name for non secure thingies. Mabe that
where my other bug reports are?

[Bug 1575109] Re: Upgrade failed, x86_64-linux-gnu/crti.o: unrecognized relocation (0x2a) in section `.init'

2018-07-31 Thread James Niland
since the update my gcc-4.8 will not compile (Make) Ubuntu 140.4.5
(Linux-...generic-..131.)
So far I have had to r-sync a backup on my system because of updates, 4 times
the last 2 months due to upstates. I am confused, frustrated and dismayed
recently with Ubuntu. This bug is no allowing me to compile the driver from
http://foo2hbpl.rkkda.com for my printer. Now not working either!

[Bug 1070002] Re: system-config-printer: Unknown value for media-col: (unknown IPP value tag 0x34)

2018-07-31 Thread James Niland
I have the same error on a Dell C1765nfw-MFP; on 198.168.0.7:9100 that had been
working for years, However cups was update approximately July 14, 2018
I am running Ubuntu-Gnome 14.04.5-LTS, with the Gnome flashback Metacity
desktop and I am wonderfully stuck on this desktop.
Also since the update I can't print at all as I get a 'Filter error', reported
as Bug #1784512. I could do a timeshift backup, but then other things I like
and net would be broke Like apache 2 and PHP.INI and my-weather indicator, and
so on.
Also since the update my gcc-4.8 will not compile (Make) Bug #1575109

[Bug 1784512] [NEW] All Jobs Stopped, Idle - 'filter failed' since July update for C1765nfw-MFP network printer

2018-07-30 Thread James Niland
Public bug reported:

This is a Dell C1765nfw-MFP Pinter; on 198.168.0.7:9100 that had been
working for years, However cups was update approximately July 14, 2048,
and now the printer will not work. All other systems also running
Ubuntu-Gnome 14.04.5-LTS DO connect and print, but then the 'Cups' has
not been updated on those boxes! On my box that won't print it pings
just fine, so I don't suspect a connection problem.

All 'Cups' and associated files have been reinstalled via synaptic. The correct
driver is 'Dell C1765 Foomatic/foo2hbpl2 (recommended)'. I have also
reinstalled the driver from http://foo2hbpl.rkkda.com/ that works best, but
alas the even the foomatic via synaptic has the same error. I can't seem to
select the older version in synaptic with Force version either as it seems to
be not available. The newer version 1.8 foomatic driver from foo2hbpl.rkkda.com
can't be compiled anymore as now since the updates for 'gc++' is no longer
working. I can't get past the 'Make' command anymore!
Please don't suggest Distribution upgrade as this was already tried and further
I don't like it for the Gnome flashback Metacity desktop. Perhaps on a newer
Computer it would be OK, but for this box anything above 14.04 had too much
abandoned to be useful to me. I have six HDD so trying the newer Distributions
was not hard.

Anyway the log file as fallows:
troubleshoot.txt attached

I looked at this log for a long time but it is beyond my scope
I just want to print again
Thanks James Niland

[Bug 1554117] Re: gnome-software search bar duplicates letters while typing

2016-05-03 Thread James Niland
My install is new (1 day) Ubuntu server 16.04 LTS 64-bit with the Gnome
desktop added in as I hate to have to do all in command line. In my
situation it is always reproducible and always effects me!

System:
HP wx9400 Work Station, water cooled
Quad-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 2380 × 8 with 16 GiB memory
Dual display port Gallium 0.4 on NV92(nvidia)
WD 500 GiB and WD 1 Tetrabyte

Maybe go to Gnome Flashback as this desktop keeps bouncing things around moving
the mouse, I have the real estate on a 20" monitor? I have not found the input
method yet in this new Ubuntu?
