[Bug 1084664] [NEW] Canoscan LIDE 50: head does not return to starting position

2012-11-29 Thread Jan-Pieter Jacobs
Public bug reported:

After scanning an image the head does not get back to it's starting
position but stays where it left of the last time.

This started happening (IIRC) on the transition between 10.10 and 11.04.
before it did return home.

This makes: a) scans take longer to start, b) impossible to lock the
scanner head prior to transporting it.

It seems someone has a fix for this in the debian bugtracker:
http://arch.debian.org/tracker/?func=detail&atid=410366&aid=313909&group_id=30186

output of sane-findscanner:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x2213 [CanoScan]) at
libusb:002:006

Thanks!

Jan-Pieter

[Bug 959151]

2012-06-25 Thread Jan-Pieter Jacobs
Same for me. Happens with about any Kde application launched.

I can confirm the nepomuk daemon taking 100% CPU, and making other applications
unresponsive.
After disabling file indexing things got a bit better, but I still have
stability problems, even with desktop effects disabled.

For instance: applications fail to launch (or only launch after a long,
long time), the activity bar gets blanked and irresponsive applications
crash, etc etc. If I try again, the problem is not reproducible. So it's
pretty random. I'm not sure that everything is related, but this DBUS
message is there every time...

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit, KDE 4.8.4

[Bug 1010700] [NEW] GTK applications freeze when switching windows

2012-06-08 Thread Jan-Pieter Jacobs
Public bug reported:

When having the gtk2-engines-oxygen theme activated, switching to and
from a GTK application frequently will cause the app to use more and
more memory, and more and more CPU time. This keeps on going, up to the
moment where I need to kill the app because it bogs down the system by
going into swapspace.

Both Emacs 23.3.1 and Firefox 13.0 present the same behaviour. I went
looking for the cause, and switched themes. After switching this
stopped. This made it clear that the problem must lie with the gtk-
oxygen theme.

Uppon suggestion of from Ruslan over at bugs.kde.org I took the most
recent version (1.2.4) for a swing, and this solved the issue.

Solution: Could you please bump the version of this package to the most recent
one?
I saw a similar request already here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/oxygen-gtk3/+bug/991891 , but I
really want to stress that this makes widespread GTK apps (think firefox)
misbehave, and really become useless.

Thanks,

Jan-Pieter

1) Using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2) output of 'apt-cache policy pkgname'
gtk2-engines-oxygen:
Installed: (none) <-- had to uninstall to get the
package build from sources installed using checkinstall
  Candidate: 1.2.2-0ubuntu1.1
  Version table:
 1.2.2-0ubuntu1.1 0

amd64 Packages
 1.2.2-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://mirror.switch.ch/ftp/mirror/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64
Packages

3) What I expected to happen:
Window switching without
  - excessive CPU usage
  - memory leaking
  - having to wait for apps to start responding after switching focus.

4) What happened instead:
  - Memory growing ever faster (Had Emacs with 1 open buffer growing to 2Gb)
  - CPU usage skyrocketting upon focus switch
  - Apps reacting slower at every switch.

[Bug 886975] Re: Lenovo sound chip Conexant CX20549 Venice doesn't work correctly.

2011-12-17 Thread Jan-Pieter Jacobs
Hi, I also had the same problem. I can confirm that the 3.0.0.14-generic
kernel fixes (more or less) the microphone problem. Testing with skype,
the sound was a bit crackly.

Another thing to notice is that apparently the volume does not scale
linearly as would be expected when upping/downing the volume. 4 ticks
down from the maximum, the output is to silent too hear (while the
slider is at +- 75%).

But anyway, it appears things are finally going in the good direction!
Thanks for the effort!

[Bug 888136] Re: No Sound from Headphones Lenovo R61i

2011-12-17 Thread Jan-Pieter Jacobs
I've got similar problems. Sometimes sound output via the headphone jack does
work, but not always.
Aside of this, sometimes (apparently mostly after waking up from suspend),
sound does not work for some applications (like vlc) but does work for KDE
desktop soundeffects.

Additionally to the problems introduced by the Oneiric release, my (internal)
microphone doesn't work at all (since like 8.04) without a patched kernel
(found here: https://launchpad.net/~c4pp4/+archive/ppa).
Less importantly, but irritating none the less: when the power cable is
unplugged, a chirping noise is heard through the built-in speakers. It's not
present on the headphone jack (if it works).

It would be marvelous to have this working out of the box in mainstream.
I'd be happy to collaborate on this topic, just contact me.

Then I guess you should file a bug against freehdl as gvhdl needs this
anyway, so it should be a dependancy.
The fix for this problem would just to install libtool, if you prefer
using vhdl instead of verilog...

Re: [Bug 291075] Re: Digital simulation in qucs don't work

2009-01-16 Thread Jan-Pieter Jacobs
Hi Ahmed!

It's easy: save gvhdl.diff in a directory. If you don't need to use
gvhdl from within Qucs, you could copy the gvhdl script to the dir
where you need to use it, as I don't know
whether patching the gvhdl script in place will break updates.
If you want to use it directly from within Qucs, I guess you can patch
it anyway in the /usr/bin directory. Any how, go where gvhdl is, there
do:
patch -b gvhdl < gvhdl.diff
That will change the script so it works. A backup is taken in case
something goes wrong (gvhdl.orig).
Now to use it just use ./gvhdl in that directory, or if you plan to
use it with qucs (As i don't find an option to change the vhdlsim
binary) i guess you need to copy the gvhdl script back to /usr/bin.

Hope this helps you!

Greets,

Jan-Pieter

[Bug 310798] Re: Suspend denied by gnome-power-manager, saying that action stopped by vlc

I've got the same problem... When I've used vlc, it's like its lock on the
powermanager remains even after closing the program. I verified that vlc was
really shutdown...
Anyway, i only get the 'Playing some media' message once.

[Bug 55530] Re: oobase Crash when handling a freshlymade database

2006-08-07 Thread Jan-Pieter Jacobs
I tried the link you gave me, it seems there is no source package of openoffice
in the tree. So i tried making a backtrace, but i get this:
This GDB was configured as "i486-linux-gnu"..."/usr/bin/oobase": not in
executable format: File format not recognized.
OK, i found out oobase is a symlink to ooo-wrapper.
That appeared to be a script which calls soffice. now soffice also appears to
be some perl-script, but this one is too complicated for my
2-weeks-old-knowledge of perl.
So how do I go about then?
