[Bug 235613] [NEW] [Hardy][wine][regression] Segmentation Fault in Palm Hotsync over serial
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: wine I upgraded to Ubuntu Hardy, and wine 1.0-rc1. Hotsync manager 1.0 for Palm Pilot worked fine before. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=versioniId=10362 Now it crashes half-way synchronising over the serial port, sometimes after a few seconds, sometimes much later in the process. These crashes reproduce well, and yield a segmentation fault without further information $ wine hotsync.exe Segmentation fault $ I do not know if this means that a part of Wine crashes, or just the application. I added logging, where it seems that the problem lies within the call below: 0009:CallTo16(func=111f:072a,ds=1087,118f,7404,,0006) ss:sp=1087:ffd0 It is disappointing that an application that used to work fine, and I came to depend on, is now broken. Logging can be found at Wine HQ: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13296 --- I've recompiled with several versions of wine, especially those that did work with Gutsy. The problem does not disappear. Therefore, I think it's not a change in wine that triggers the problem, but rather a problem in another module in Hardy. --- I just got the kernel upgrade from vmlinuz-2.6.24-16 to vmlinuz-2.6.24-17 (patch for Ubuntu Hardy). Now, the problem is less frequent. It seems that I can introduce the failure by switching electrical equipment nearby. Therefore, I think that the crash occurs after a severe communications failure. Apparently, Hardy generates them, even with no ambient influences, where Gutsy didn't. lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.04 Release:8.04 ** Affects: wine (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Hardy][wine][regression] Segmentation Fault in Palm Hotsync over serial https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/235613 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Could you please help me out a little more on how to compile samba, so that I can try it as well ? I installed git and autogen from the package manager. Then I got the git package as described in: http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Using_Git_for_Samba_Development I did autogen.sh in the samba/source directory, and then followed the instructions from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=707370highlight=cifs+samba+hardy Now, no smbmount executable was generated. furthermore 'make install' installed everything into /usr/local/samba. With starting mount.cifs in that directory, I could not mount directories, but I suspect this has to do with that it's still using hardy's libraries. -- no way to read and write files on mounted samba share on hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210741 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 200500] Re: WLAN loosing connection: No ProbeResp
I think that the main problem here is NetworkManager. I don't mind that after a while of no signal, the network is disconnected. However, the system should be able to recover from this gracefully, and retry once proper signal is available again. I think this is what is really broken in Hardy now, apart from the other rt bugs (see eg. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/190515 ) Note that going to a non-beacon mode would fix the problem in a way JoshuaPurcell describes. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/5525 My adapter: RaLink RT2500 802.11g Cardbus/mini-PCI (rev 01) / Subsystem: Linksys WMP54G 2.0 PCI Adapter -- WLAN loosing connection: No ProbeResp https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/200500 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 192119] Re: [hardy] iwl3945 fails reporting networks with iwlist wlan0 scan
This is actually documented, and intended behavior. Set status to invalid: it actually is a valid report, but behavior should not be changed. From man iwlist : PARAMETERS scan[ning] Give the list of Access Points and Ad-Hoc cells in range, and optionally a whole bunch of information about them (ESSID, Qual‐ ity, Frequency, Mode...). The type of information returned depends on what the card supports. Triggering scanning is a privileged operation (root only) and normal users can only read left-over scan results. By default, the way scanning is done (the scope of the scan) is dependant on the card and card settings. This command take optional arguments, however most drivers will ignore those. The option essid is used to specify a scan on a specific ESSID. The option last do not trigger a scan and read left-over scan results. ** Changed in: linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24 (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Invalid -- [hardy] iwl3945 fails reporting networks with iwlist wlan0 scan https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/192119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: Binary package hint: vlc In hardy, gvfs is now the standard. Unfortunately, this breaks playing files on mounted drives with vlc from Nautilus. [Bug 107115] Re: log out or switch user results in crash
I have had the same problem for a long time: every 10th switch crashed the system. Crashes How badly ? blank screen + Numlock does not change the light on the keyboard (i.e. complete system stuck). On Hardy Heron 8.04: it does this now most of the time. Hardy is the worst Ubumtu release I've seen so far. My sysytem: Compaq dualcore, 2Gb memory with ATI card, using proprietary driver. (I don't see a tool anymore under system/administration with which I can provide more information) -- log out or switch user results in crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107115 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 226275] [NEW] [hardy] iwlist wlan0 scan fails to show networks with linksys WMP54G
Public bug reported: This bug has some simliarities with #192119 [hardy] iwl3945 fails reporting networks with iwlist wlan0 scan but differs in a) the device I have (#192119 gets very vendor specific) and b) the exact behavior. While I actually use a network via NetworkManager but iwlist still fails to show something without sudo: When I try to show all networks in range with 'iwlist wlan0 scan' I get 'No scan results', this result is almost immediate. If I do this as root instead, it shows the network that is used ( it takes about 1/2 a second). lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.04 Release:8.04 Additional info: With hardy, download rates on the network are reduced from 180 kb/s (with Gutsy) to approx 30 kb/sec. With hardy, I don't see networks of neighbors in the network list, while with Gutsy I usually saw some. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [hardy] iwlist wlan0 scan fails to show networks with linksys WMP54G https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226275 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Might have to do with theold RT driver in Hardy. Then, this might be related to bug 190515. [Bug 210741] Re: no way to read and write files on mounted samba share on hardy
I have exaxctly the same problems. Due to this, my Ubuntu computer has started to be a nuisance, especially because downgrading back to 7.* is impossible, and gvfs cannot be disabled without removing Nautilus and the Ubuntu desktop. What a pain is hardy ! My configuration: 1 Ubuntu hardy destop, and a file server (90 MHz Pentium, 40Mb RAM) running another distro, with an old kernel 2.2.16-22. Using samba, no guest accounts, plain passwords, different UIDs for the same users on both machines. I have performed the commands below 515 cd /proc/fs 517 smbmount //his01/jhh ~/t5 519 cd cifs 521 sudo sh -c 'echo 1 traceSMB ' 522 sudo sh -c 'echo 3 cifsFYI ' 523 cd .. 524 smbumount ~/t5 ... 532 smbmount //his01/jhh ~/t5 533 cat ~/t5/pldirs.txt cat: /home/jhh/t5/pldirs.txt: Permission denied 534 smbumount ~/t5 After the smbmount: the directory structure looks fine. On this particular file: -rwxrwSrwx 1 jhh jhh 456 2008-04-12 14:26 pldirs.txt Attached the logging. I've taken out the raw data blocks (hex codes). [Bug 210741] Re: no way to read and write files on mounted samba share on hardy
In addition to the previous post, I also see strange behavior while connecting via Nautilus: - directory displays OK. - at opening a text file I get a strange authentication required pop-up, for a user called guest (see attached) - then, everything seems to go fine after that. - then an endless loop due to a circular reference in the fileserver filesystem, eating away all resources. May be caused by tracker trying to index the newly mounted filesystem. ** Attachment added: Screenshot-Authentication Required.png http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14095306/Screenshot-Authentication%20Required.png -- no way to read and write files on mounted samba share on hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/210741 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 208533] Re: Network Settings untick connection not displaying properly
Same behavior here: I have a wireless and a wired connection, and both show the same: Clicking one time does not un-tick. Second time: sometimes a real disconnect (and shown !) Only then, it's possible to re-connect to the networks. It is consistent behavior. Reproduces really well. -- Network Settings untick connection not displaying properly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208533 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
