[Bug 1857022] Re: gtk3-nocsd preloads a setuid library
I suppose it has to do with allowing libgtk3-nocsd to be preloaded (LD_PRELOAD), according to: https://blog.fpmurphy.com/2012/09/all-about- ld_preload.html#:~:text=LD_PRELOAD%20is%20an%20optional%20environmental,is%20called%20preloading%20a%20library. My LD_PRELOAD is set by default (not sure why) with libgtk3-nocsd.so.0 -- /etc/X11/Xsession.d/51gtk3-nocsd-detect. This feels such a security hole ... libgtk3-nocsd.so.0 can take over the machine if I ran anything with setuid. And what's worse, because it's set without an absolute path, one may create an "evil" libgtk3-nocsd.so.0 somewhere ahead of the intended one. And after that it stopped working at all, and i can't make it work again, even after logout or reboot I downloaded the source for compiz-0.52.0 and added a few printf's on gtk-window-manager, and it seems to be running fine, it goes to sleep inside the gtk_main() function, it just doesn't paint the window decorations ... :( So i can confirm this is a bug with Gutsy+NVIDIA(my particular board maybe)+Compiz. -- enabled desktop effects window decoration https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/73544 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Could the package installation script check for the usage of NVidia driver on xorg.conf, and if that is the case, keep it enabled ? The following line should do the job: $ egrep -qi '^[[:space:]]*driver[[:space:]]*"nvidia"' /etc/X11/xorg.conf Thx! ** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [nvidia-new] nvidia module went missing after upgrade to Gutsy (from Feisty) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153365 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 153027] Re: can't mount secondary sata drive
Found the problem: EVMS was moving, or acquiring the /dev/sdb1 device, and creating another node under /dev/evms/sdb1. I'm not sure if i had EVMS installed under Feisty, but either upgrading it to Gusty or having it installed when upgrading to Gusty triggered the problem. Took me almost an hour (rebooting the machine) to find out the problem, and i have quite a good understanding of linux. Others might be left at a total loss. So I would strongly suggest that the EVMS package first check /etc/fstab for the partitions it takes over, before it moves it for somewhere else. And either avoid taking over them in that case, or printing warning messages with the problem. Is there a way to move this bug from linux-source-2.6.22 to evms ? Thanks a lot!!! Sorry for the wrong classification of the bug -- i didn't know then. ** Also affects: evms (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.22 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- can't mount secondary sata drive https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/153027 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 146988] Re: nvidia driver won't work on Gutsy Beta upgrade
Just upgraded from Feisty do Gutsy (2.6.22-14). When X tries to start, it just complains that it can't find kernel module "nvidia" (nvidia.ko) -- there is no such file in linux- restricted-modules, according to dpkg --listfiles I tried reinstalling (apt-get install --reinstall) linux-restricted- modules -- to no effect -- and running nvidia's installation script -- it generated a module that always fails to load. Just yesterday it was working fine on feisty :( do you think this could be related ? Any ideas ? ps.: my xorg.conf driver is set to "Nvidia". I don't want to use "nv" because it won't give me the 2560x1600 of the monitor i'm using. My card is a GTX8800, but i don't think it matters, as the problem is just that the nvidia.ko module isn't there ... (well, maybe it's generated by some other way i'm not aware of). thx!!! :) -- nvidia driver won't work on Gutsy Beta upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/146988 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 153027] can't mount secondary sata drive
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-14-generic After upgrading from feisty to gutsy, the new kernel, 2.6.22-14 just won't mound my SATA "sdb" partitions. Mount complains that the disk is "busy". Rebooting with the old kernel (2.6.20), that i luckily didn't remove, they mount fine. [Bug 68053] Re: Eclipse will not start (Edgy)
I had the same problem, in a amd64 edgy system. So, for the other illiterate on dpkg-buildpakcage processes like me, I did the following, and it seems to have worked: 1) go to a temporary source directory # cd ~/src 2) get the source # apt-get source eclipse 3) apply the patch, see bug #68380, the first thing there is the pointer to this patch (eclipse.debdiff), just download it # patch -p0 < eclipse.debdiff 4) move into the eclipse directory # cd eclipse-3.2.1/ 5) compile the whole thing, took hours on a dual core 2.167 system, and there was lots of warning/error messages, but it seems to have worked well enough # dpkg-buildpackage -D -nc -b 6) back to the top directory # cd .. 7) install the newly generated .deb (all of them had the version "_3.2.1-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb"). I'm not sure if all of them are necessary or not ... but I installed all of them over: # dpkg --install libswt3.2-*.deb eclipse-*.deb 8) go back to your normal user, and, very important, remove previous configuration/setup -- that's the way I got things working, maybe not all of it is necessary. Actually I had previously moved my projects out of the way first, and the workspace/ was always some default created by eclipse: $ rm -rf workspace/ .eclipse/ 9) run eclipse, I'm using sun's java here: $ eclipse -vm /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/bin/java -ws gtk hope this helps someone else :) -- Eclipse will not start (Edgy) https://launchpad.net/bugs/68053 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 73566] won't start: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: memmove
Public bug reported: Probably a SWT problem, or some dependency. My machine, a edgy/amd64 is freshly installed. After some trying I notice the same problem happens in Azureus, another swt user.
