No, but the other ones didn't whine and stated they would switch to Debian Etch because of a bug in a release that is still tested for bugs. You did. The key issue is this: if you want to have a stable distribution stay out of the pre-release cycle. That will save you all disappointments. By using Feisty now, even a week before the final release, you have joined the group of alfa/beta testers whose primary purpose is to find/stumble/crash into the bugs and report them. Complaining about the bug and then saying goodbye to Ubuntu in exchange for Debian Etch, well... that's for another forum. Or I have to learn again computing after 18 years of computing. Maybe, if you didn't know this could happen. I am involved in computing for 23 years and still learn new things. Just in case it might be useful: I can still boot into kernel 2.6.20-13, but it then defaults to Xfce instead of Gnome (I have Gnome, Xfce and KDE installed, with Gnome as default). Of course, it is something that can be changed without any problem, but since it happened after the kernel upgrade... -- MASTER: Computer will not boot after 2.6.20-14.24 kernel upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/106063 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 69054] Re: OPC failed
Of course I needed to continue working and so the testing continued as well. I might have found the cause and the solution to the problem. By default Ubuntu mounts empty optical disks using Nautilus Burner. I immediately click ignore once it pops up and I find it more of a nuisance than anything else. There is an option to disable that option ( System-> Preferences -> Removable Stations), but I hadn't done that yet. When the OPC Failed problem occured again this afternoon the idea popped up to disable the above mentioned option. I have burned two DVD's since, the last one with an altered project name again and it started without a problem. My hypothesis is now the following: while mounting the disk, Nautilus Burner starts up some processes and/or applications that are also being used by K3b at the time. The time frame between me pressing the Ignore button in Nautilus Burner and starting a new burn process in K3b is too short. The conflict results in K3b not being able to start the optimum power calibration. Short is in this case between 10 and 30 seconds (I can click fast). I will continue testing and try to find the processes involved. -- OPC failed https://launchpad.net/bugs/69054 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 22667] Re: 2.6.12 and above create 100% CPU with xorg on iMac
Just to add a note that I experienced the same problem last week on my iMac Indigo (500 Mhz, 768 Mb RAM). I downloaded the most recent versions of Ubuntu alternate and Xubuntu alternate (the regular ones would not boot) and attempted to install them. After installing it took a very long time for GDM to load and the screen to be drawn. After login I could move the mouse freely, but after clicking on a menu item the system froze. Only a hard reset was possible. Debian Sarge and Debian Sid don't have the same problem. Sarge is running 2.6.8 kernel by default. I tried Yellowdog on the same box and it didn't have this problem as well. It seems to be specific to Ubuntu. The suggested DRI and FBDev options work fine both in Yellowdog and Debian Sarge/Sid and did not have to be uncommented on my box. -- 2.6.12 and above create 100% CPU with xorg on iMac https://launchpad.net/bugs/22667 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Why not integrate system restore into Linux and into the menu? I mean, that is one of the things that I have found very useful in Windows XP and I know that many XP users have used that feature on more than one occasion. Mind you, I don't know enough of what this will take, or if there are any security issues associated with it. The networking feature looks okay, but might be a bit daunting for people with only GUI experience. Joining IRC seems nice, but who is going to answer the repetitive questions from the users that experience problems. One of the big problems I have noticed over the years is how difficult it is for end-users to describe and define the problem. Without that it is difficult to solve it. For the newbie user having an option to restore everything back to a previous restore point is simple and straight forward. Beyond that restore point there should be a fast and easy access to what caused the problem in the first place, otherwise the end-user will just stop updating his sytem in order to prevent a similar thing from happening. This requires a set of analyses tools that could take the information in the various logs, compare it to the same logs at a previous restore point (the one that was reverted to) and present a list of things that could be wrong with links to a website for common and specific solutions. That's the kind of process I can visualize, but whether it can be implemented I don't know. -- xorg-server 1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10.3 breaks X: "no screens found" https://launchpad.net/bugs/57153 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 57153] Re: xorg-server 1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10.3 breaks X: "no screens found"
Well, I suffered from the same problem earlier this week ( I run an AMD XP 2400+ box with 512 Mb RAM and an Asus n6200 256 Mb RAM card). Unfortunately I did not have the time to search for a solution. This is my production box and I needed it up and running that same moment. For me this called for a backup of the /home folder and reinstalling Ubuntu from scratch (which was simple and fast). Anyway, for me it proves that Linux has improved greatly as far as ease of installation and ease of use are concerned, but when something goes wrong there is a serious lack of easy and accessible diagnostic and repair tools that don't require you to go over esoteric error logs with tons of information that are useless for the non-geek user. And we have to be honest, something always can and will go wrong. http://opensourcelearning.info/blog/?p=46 http://opensourcelearning.info/blog/?p=49 -- xorg-server 1:1.0.2-0ubuntu10.3 breaks X: "no screens found" https://launchpad.net/bugs/57153 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
