Re: [Bug 1767703] Re: Calling 'apt-install grub-efi-amd64-signed' failed

2018-05-09 Thread Jane C Poche
Greetings!!

The disk originally had only windows 10, a diagnostics partition and a
system restore partition.

I can not wipe windows to let Linux use the entire disk.

Also, there is no room to create a larger boot area on /dev/sda.

I burned a DVD from the iso using Brasero - and I have no idea what boot
the installer uses.
I received no warning messages when loading and starting the DVD.

Which warning message do you refer to.??

Thanks,
Jay and Jane

[Bug 1770055] [NEW] Grub fails to instal on Ubuntu Mate 18.04 -- amd-64

2018-05-08 Thread Jane C Poche
Public bug reported:

Installed from DVD.
( I did not see any option for "expert" Install to continue with boot repair.)

I had previously used a standalone boot of GPARTED to make Linux
partitions for /, swap, and /home.

I selected the "Do something different" at the disk configuration are of
install.

I chose to format / and /home and use them as ext2. swap was, well,
swap.

/dev/sda was selected as the boot area

May have missed something as we went out for dinner after setting the
disk.

Also Unable to boot 18.04 from USB made with "liLi" on a windows system with
the same 18.04 iso file.
(that is, the USB failed to boot - to do the install.)

Other problems a bot similar - BUT not for 18.04.

Thanks!
Jane & Jay

PS- the auto problem report said this was a bug.

2018-04-29 Thread Jane C Poche
Public bug reported:
