[Bug 528324] Re: eclipse crashes due to xulrunner

2010-05-26 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
For me removing the stale /usr/lib/xulrunner and
/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.0.. didn't fix the crash (this is maverik).
Happens with all JDK's (IBM, OpenJDK, Sun(?)).

[Bug 528324] Re: eclipse crashes due to xulrunner

2010-05-26 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
This same issue seems to bother all SWT based applications (like
Azureus/Vuze). But running Vuze you get a little bit more verbose 1)
error message which actually helped me to find a temporary solution.

For me the solution which makes Eclipse work again (until the real bug
is fixed) was:

jar...@sentti:~/btrfs/dev/eclipse$ XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 ./eclipse

1)
Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'Vuze' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
  (Details: serial 8171 error_code 8 request_code 148 minor_code 4)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
aborting...

[Bug 528324] Re: eclipse crashes due to xulrunner

2010-05-26 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
Ok, I understand this. But this bug is also present on the Eclipse that
came from Ubuntu's repository. I just verified it.

Also it seems that I need to have XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 when starting
vmware (workstation) it to display the VM's screen. Without
XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 there's only a transparent square where you can
see what's behind the vmware window.

[Bug 445009] Re: Eclipse SIGSEGVs in libpango

2009-12-17 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
From I noticed that if GTK_MODULES contains atk-bridge eclipse keeps
crashing.

Default GTK_MODULES:
jar...@sentti:~/dev/eclipse$ !echo
echo $GTK_MODULES
canberra-gtk-module:gail:atk-bridge

My eclipse startup script, which doesn't crash eclipse:
jar...@sentti:~/dev/eclipse$ cat eclipse
#!/bin/sh

echo https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eclipse/+bug/458703
export GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1
echo https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=546542
export GTK_MODULES=canberra-gtk-module:gail

~/dev/eclipse/eclipse.bin $0

Notice that eclipse.bin reads eclipse.bin.ini (not the default
eclipse.ini). Also empty (GTK_MODULES=) works also.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postgresql-8.4

Setting up postgresql-8.4 (8.4.2-1) ...
 * Starting PostgreSQL 8.4 database server
 * The PostgreSQL server failed to start. Please check the log output:
2009-12-15 08:37:18 EET FATAL: could not create shared memory segment: Invalid
argument
2009-12-15 08:37:18 EET DETAIL: Failed system call was shmget(key=5432001,
size=37879808, 03600).
2009-12-15 08:37:18 EET HINT: This error usually means that PostgreSQL's
request for a shared memory segment exceeded your kernel's SHMMAX parameter.
You can either reduce the request size or reconfigure the kernel with larger
SHMMAX. To reduce the request size (currently 37879808 bytes), reduce
PostgreSQL's shared_buffers parameter (currently 4096) and/or its
max_connections parameter (currently 103).
If the request size is already small, it's possible that it is less
than your kernel's SHMMIN parameter, in which case raising the request size or
reconfiguring SHMMIN is called for.
The PostgreSQL documentation contains more information about shared
memory configuration.

There's a lot of desktop files in .local/share/applications and couple
in /usr/local/share/applications. Some of the files only have header and
the others have mixed amount of lines.

[Bug 200509] Re: iwl4965: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000

2009-08-02 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
With the following firmware version I'm not affected by the bug;

[ 16.579725] iwlagn: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link AGN driver for Linux, 1.3.27k
[ 16.579727] iwlagn: Copyright(c) 2003-2009 Intel Corporation
[ 16.579877] iwlagn :06:00.0: PCI INT A - GSI 19 (level, low) - IRQ 19
[ 16.579906] iwlagn :06:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
[ 16.579957] iwlagn :06:00.0: Detected Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100AGN
REV=0x54
[ 16.616763] iwlagn :06:00.0: Tunable channels: 13 802.11bg, 24 802.11a
channels
[ 16.616833] iwlagn :06:00.0: irq 31 for MSI/MSI-X
[ 59.965227] iwlagn :06:00.0: firmware: requesting iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode
[ 60.021998] iwlagn :06:00.0: loaded firmware version 8.24.2.12
[ 215.931914] iwlagn :06:00.0: iwl_tx_agg_start on ra = 00:21:91:ea:90:1f
tid = 0
[ 2475.968286] iwlagn :06:00.0: iwl_tx_agg_start on ra = 00:21:91:ea:90:1f
tid = 6

The WLAN AP is set to channel 13 with 20/40Mhz auto channel width which
was the problem configuration for me. Maybe I'd a different problem
which has been fixed by the firmware 8.24.2.12.

[Bug 200509] Re: iwl4965: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000

2009-08-02 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
Aka a workaround is to set the WLAN AP to use channel other than 13
or/and set the channel width to 20Mhz.

If the problem happens just sometimes this could be because the AP being
set to auto channel selection and selects channel 13 for current
session.

[Bug 401938] Re: gtk 2.17.5 has no png loader built on amd64 which breaks icons

2009-07-20 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
Just a me too. After the latest apt-get dist-upgrade gnome is in very
bad shape; unable to load png icons. This causes many applications to
fail (like network manager), gnome-wm doesn't work etc. The top and
bottom bars (gnome-panel at the top and window list at the bottom) are
flickering madly.

[Bug 374010] [NEW] snd_pcm_delay() returned a value that is exceptionally large:

2009-05-09 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Pulseaudio is misbehaving. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
Currently mostly it doesn't work that much. I've been trying workaround
by starting pulseaudio manually (pulseaudio --start, killing it
(pulseaudio --kill). Use the console (-C) and verbose mode, but this
still remains a big annoyning mystery.jar...@gandalf:~$ uname -a

I noticed that there're several bugs related to pulseaudio, from which
some of are marked as fixed, but it seems there're more than one real
bug.

E: alsa-sink.c: ALSA woke us up to write new data to the device, but there was
actually nothing to write!
E: alsa-sink.c: Most likely this is a bug in the ALSA driver 'snd_hda_intel'.
Please report this issue to the ALSA developers.
E: alsa-sink.c: We were woken up with POLLOUT set -- however a subsequent

different, not adjusting (44100 vs. 35858).

The firmware restart error is getting hotter and hotter.
I had to disable 11n networking otherwise the wlan connection couldn't get up.

Maybe we could get the iwlagn driver compiled with debug mode on for the
time being?

[Bug 371884] [NEW] Compile Karmic kernel with CONFIG_IWLWIFI_DEBUG=y

2009-05-04 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
Public bug reported:

Would it be possible to compile the karmic kernel (2.6.30) with iwlagn
debug support turned on?

http://intellinuxwireless.org/?n=fw_error_report

There seems to be a lot of microcode SW errors in the driver which can't
be debugged/fixed without this. Having the CONFIG_IWLWIFI_DEBUG turned
in the stock/devel kernel of karmic would make tracking these issues
possible.

CONFIG_IWLWIFI_DEBUG=y only adds support for debugging, without
additional module parameters it isn't any more verbose than what it is
now.

2009-04-14 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
insserv is broken - note that it's never been tested on Ubuntu and is
generally not supported, even the package description notes that it can
cause problems.

Ah, OK. Actually i didn't have it installed at all. Only installed it
sometimes during testing try to get issue sorted out.

Is there an ubuntu supported tool for making the order in /etc/rcS.d or
is it supposed to kept in sync manually?

Or rather, how do I make sure that my /etc/rcS.d is per ubuntu
standards?

[Bug 321927] Re: /dev/pts and /dev/shm not mounted on boot

2009-04-14 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
Is this bug tracked by another issue? Simply marking this bug as invalid
will not fix the actual problem (which is /dev/shm and /dev/pts not
being mounted on reboot after upgrade).

If the tools are not obeying the Should-Start: directive in
mountdevsubfs.sh, why not change it to Required-Start then? This fixes
the problem.

#! /bin/sh
### BEGIN INIT INFO
# Provides: mountdevsubfs
# Required-Start:mountkernfs udev

This seems to much simpler fix than fixing the insserv and doens't
require revert later when it's actually fixed.

Or if udev package required fix is required there's the keyword X-Start-
Before (if it's honored) which could placed in /etc/init.d/udev to make
it start before mountdevsubfs.

A quick test shows that X-Start-Before seems to work. For testing I
removed any udev dependencies from mountdevsubfs and added X-Start-
Before:mountdevsubfs to /etc/init.d/udev, removed /etc/rcS.d/S05udev.sh
and ran chkconfig udev S and /etc/rcS.d/S05udev appeared.

#!/bin/sh -e
### BEGIN INIT INFO
# Provides: udev
# Required-Start:mountkernfs
# Required-Stop:
# Should-Start:
# X-Start-Before:mountdevsubfs
# Default-Start: S
# Default-Stop:
# Short-Description: Start the udev daemon.
# Description: Mounts the /dev virtual filesystem, starts the udev
#daemon and populates /dev.
### END INIT INFO

For double safety/complexity one could change udev to Required-Start: in
/etc/init.d/mountdevsubfs.sh and also add the X-Start-Before: mountdevsubfs
in /etc/init.d/udev.

[Bug 360722] Re: xf86-video-ati 6.12.2 for jaunty?

2009-04-13 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
Oh, yes, forgot to mention that I'm running 2.6.30rc1, not the stock
kernel. The 2.6.30rc1 has all required new DRM stuff in it. And compared
to 2.6.29, 2.6.30rc1 is way much smoother.

2009-04-13 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
Tried to convert the source build to a debuild inorder to release a PPA,
but it didn't work. So I just compiled and manually installed the new
driver, and sofar it seems to work ok ;)

[Bug 321927] Re: /dev/pts and /dev/shm not mounted on boot

2009-04-11 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
I can't remember doing anything that's related to reordering the
contents of /etc/rcS.d.

Is there a way to get it back as it should be?

What says that udev must appear before mountdevsubfs?

Programs which I've tried that have something to do with startup are;
startupmanager and splashy.

I hope programs like sysrc-rc and others that are meant for configuring
which services are activated on what runlevel don't mess with
/etc/rcS.d.

[Bug 321927] Re: /dev/pts and /dev/shm not mounted on boot

2009-04-11 Thread Jarkko Lietolahti
It seems that twiddling with chkconfig also made my /etc/rcS.d better, that
is udev is now before mountdevsubfs.sh.
However I didn't have chkconfig installed, I had to install it with sudo
apt-get install chdkconfig
