[Bug 2080525] [NEW] Maximized window gets restored on previous workspace

2024-09-12 Thread Javier Paniagua Laconich
Public bug reported:

When a maximized window is moved to a different workspace using the
"Move to monitor right/left" and then restored (un-maximized), it does
so going back to the previous workspace.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Maximise a window in the current workspace
2. Move it to a different workspace using the "move to monitor "
menu entry or the WIN+arrow shortcut (DO NOT drag the window).
3. Restore it

Expectation:
It gets restored in the new workspace.

What happens instead:
It gets restored in the previous workspace.

It doesn't happen if the window is dragged (e.g. the usual click, hold
and move) a few pixels in the new workspace.

Ubuntu release:
No LSB modules are available.

Same as #13, I confirm that the fix works for me with do-release-upgrade
-p. The upgrade from Mantic to Noble ran to completion and everything
seems fine. I did not have to change anything about libts beforehand.

I think this is the same issue in #2067071, reported a couple of days

[Bug 2063557] [NEW] After upgrading to Ubuntu 24.04, login screen shows "Ubuntu 23.10"

2024-04-26 Thread Javier de la Puente Alonso
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from Ubuntu 23.10 to 24.04 following the instructions in
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NobleUpgrades#Upgrading_Ubuntu_Desktops_to_24.04_LTS
(that is, with update-manager -d), everything went smooth.

However, in the bottom left part of the login screen it shows "Ubuntu
23.10" instead of the expected "Ubuntu 24.04".

You can find attached a picture of the login screen.

[Bug 2060354] Re: Segfault in 2:21.1.4-2ubuntu1.7-22.04.9

In my case (Android Studio 2023.2.1, also based on IntelliJ, on a fully-
updated Jammy), with the editor antialiasing set to "grayscale", the
crash is 100% reproducible (same stacktrace) as soon as any file is
opened. The default setting, "subpixel", doesn't seem to cause any
issues.

It also affects Google Chrome (100.0.4896.75):
- Ctrl + S to open save dialog
- Start typing

Instead of changing the name of the file, it will try to input the
letter to the main window, which doesn´t make sense.

[Bug 1940860] Re: Mellanox NIC interface names change between 5.4 and 5.8

Note that this is for the latest focal debian-installer. Since there is
no hwe-netboot image the current focal installer is affected. I think an
hwe-netboot image for focal would resolve this issue for the installer.

This also affects the ubuntu-installer when the `d-i base-
installer/kernel/override-image string linux-generic-hwe-20.04`
flag is added to preseed. The installer loads 5.4 kernel and configure
NICs using the 5.4 naming convention, then once the 5.11 kernel is
loaded and the host reboots the network config fails.

Public bug reported:

It appears that apparmor is preventing the firefox snap from connecting
to the pulseaudio pipe.

When i play any video from youtube i get the error:

And no audio is played. If i play the same video in another browser it
plays just normal.

I also noticed blueman only remembers "Recent Connections" after a
reboot. After suspending it forgets them and I have to enter "Bluetooth
Devices" and connect through there. Not a serious issue and i'm not sure
it's related but just in case.

It happens to me too (AMD Renoir) but the interesting bit is that

[Bug 1573095] Re: Cloud images fail to boot when a serial port is not available

2020-11-19 Thread Javier
I've been able to reproduce this with a 16.04 Amazon EC2 exported image on
VMware vSphere 6.7. The VM boot fine after adding a serial port.
We will try to reproduce the same workaround adding a serial console connection
in OCI (which is the final target for that cloud image).

the one that came right after the 9380: the 7390 (not the 2-in-1) with
the dreaded intel bluetooth/wifi killer ax200.

2020-10-20 Thread Javier Paniagua Laconich
I'm on 20.10 Groovy Beta and, after today's kernel + linux-firmware
update, HFP/HSP is working on my dell xps 13 9380.

It stopped working since 20.04, it wasn't working with all previous
kernel/linux-firmware versions in 20.10. Today it's finally back.

[Bug 1893709] Re: Very big text top bar and login screem whit zoom

2020-08-31 Thread Javier
Thanks, I just tried disabling im-config and the problem actually seems
to persist. Investigating I have observed that the problem resides in
the dependencies "GObject data for mutter" and "Windows manager library
from mutter" that uses im-config (or at least it is visually inside im-
config in the graphical ubuntu updater. It is when updating these two
packages when the problem appears, if I restore those two packages it
solves.

[Bug 1893709] [NEW] Very big text top bar and login screem whit zoom

2020-08-31 Thread Javier
Public bug reported:

After updating im-config to version 0.44-1ubuntu1.1 the top bar is shown
with very large text and the login screen is zoomed. After doing several
updating-restoring tests I have identified that the problem package is
im-config. It only happens to me with the nvidia rtx 2060 card and 440
driver. When I connect my monitor to the intel integrated graphics, the
problem is solved.

Will it be a conflict between the nvidia drivers and im-config?

This is not a duplicate of #1576559.
#1878194 is a duplicate of this one.

But all the action is on #1878194, so let's make that one the original
bug.

[Bug 1771880] Re: Seahorse unable to import pkcs12 certificates

2020-05-25 Thread Javier-puche-u
Not seahorse but the same problem described in #33, my Mint 19.3 was not being
able to sign with Libreoffice 6.0.7.3 (nor other apps like AutoFirma) It was
solved by:
- downgrading to openjdk 1.8 (sudo apt install openjdk-8-jre; sudo
update-java-alternatives -s java-1.8.0-openjdk-amd64 )
- leaving just one profile for thunderbird with name default
- upgrading to LibreOffice 6.4.2

Maybe not all the steps were neede, maybe LibreOffice was a matter of
reinstalling with no need to upgrade (Autofirma worked just
reinstalling) but now it works

Regards.

[Bug 1876780] [NEW] Release upgrade to 20.04 LTS fails

2020-05-04 Thread Javier
Public bug reported:

I get the following message:

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

This was likely caused by:
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge
package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and
try the upgrade again.

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the
command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If
you want to investigate this yourself the log files in
'/var/log/dist-upgrade' will contain details about the upgrade.
Specifically, look at 'main.log' and 'apt.log'.

[Bug 1868493] Re: In Caja, Shift+Del causes an error

2020-05-03 Thread Javier
Hi Saverio,

A few days ago, I reported a very similar issue here:

https://github.com/mate-desktop/caja/issues/1383

As suggested there, when I turn off confirmation dialog in caja, the
issue reported by you arises.

It seems to be the same! Could you please turn confirmation dialogs on
to check if you experience the same bug as described by me?

Do you need some additional info?

Thanks!

[Bug 1875036] [NEW] bridge stops working on focal update

2020-04-25 Thread Javier Vilalta
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I don't know if this is the right package to report but: I have upgraded
to 20.04 from 18.04 and my network stopped working. Problem was that
bridge-utils package was uninstalled, so network was unable to start.
Reinstalling the package solved the problem. But I don't understand why
it was uninstalled. I have reviewed the release note for 20.04 and I
haven't seen the problem, so I'm reporting in case in can help anyone.

Regards

networking - ubuntu 14.04 bluetooth BCM43142 no discovery (tx timeout) -

[Bug 1872247] [NEW] activities overview area is too small on the primary display

2020-04-11 Thread Javier Paniagua Laconich
Public bug reported:

Precondition: the desktop is set to span 2 displays (or maybe more but I
only have 2 displays).

When the activities overview is invoked (e.g., after pressing the
'windows' key), the area where you see window thumbnails and search
results is too short on the primary display. It is OK on the secondary
display.

The bug occurs if:

- Display mode is "Join Displays"

- The physical display setup has the primary display under the secondary
display. As per the settings/display application, assuming display 1 is
set to be the primary display, the bug will occur with the following
physical display setup:

2
1 <-- (primary is display 1 and it's the one at the bottom)

It doesn't matter which of the two displays is set to be the primary
display. If display number 2 is set to be the primary one, and the
physical display setup is like this:

1
2 <-- (primary is display 2 and it's the one at the bottom)

then the bug also occurs.

The bug doesn't occur in other physical display setups (e.g., side by
side, or the primary on top).

The bug doesn't occur when the display mode is "Mirror" or "Single
Display".

Thank you for the recommendation Dimitri, I think I understand the
implications, just wanted to share a way to keep a non interactive
installation for those affected, however indeed I think that's a better
solution for casual users.

For those affected, you can run:

$ echo 'libssl1.1 libraries/restart-without-asking boolean true' |
debconf-set-selections

Previous to attempting to install the package

I can confirm this affects the bionic-updates 1.1.1-1ubuntu2.1~18.04.2

be required

[Bug 1832935] Re: NVIDIA driver 418.67 - Ubuntu 19.04

2019-06-15 Thread Javier Alonso Silva
I managed to resolve this problem. Here I will describe the steps and
errors I did and/or occurred:

 1. I added the NVIDIA drivers PPA: ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa which caused to
install a new non-
distro free version of my current driver: from 418.56 to 418.67.
 2. The new driver version included new dependencies that caused X-Org to crash
when trying to use
NVIDIA for processing the screen.
 3. In addition, the new installation created non-valid "xorg.conf" which
caused, again, X-Org
crashing when trying to log-in either boot screen.

The solution:
 1. Remove both NVIDIA drivers PPA and CUDA ones from "sources.list" and/or
"sources.list.d".
 2. Uninstall both "mesa drivers" and "gstreamer":
$ sudo apt remove mesa-va-drivers gstreamer1.0-vaapi

[REBOOT]

 3. Completely delete "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" which contains invalid configuration.
 4. Remove new NVIDIA drivers and libraries in order to install the "older"
(but working) ones.
$ sudo apt remove --purge nvidia-*
$ sudo apt remove --purge libnvidia*
$ sudo apt remove --purge *nvidia*
$ sudo apt remove --purge *cuda*
I removed that all because of new dependencies installed in order to avoid
versions' compatibility errors when trying to install the recommended drivers.

[REBOOT]

 5. Install recommended drivers with:
$ sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall

[REBOOT]

 6. Boot again into Ubuntu and log-in normally, checked "nvidia-smi" and got
working configuration:
$ nvidia-smi

[Bug 1832935] [NEW] NVIDIA driver 418.67 - Ubuntu 19.04

2019-06-15 Thread Javier Alonso Silva
Public bug reported:

Today I received an Ubuntu 19.04 update which updates the base generic
kernel (5.0.0-16-generic) and also a NVIDIA driver update from 418.56 to
418.67

Everything went ok but when rebooted I was unable to pass from login
screen (when I put my credentials, it starts but freezes on "black"
screen in which I have to reboot by long pressing the power button).

While viewing the logs, everything displayed and said that it was
impossible to find and connect to any GPU (not found), so I tried
manually installing the 430 drivers from NVIDIA PPA and also swtiching
back to 418.56 driver version, but in both cases I was only able to boot
by using the integrated Intel graphics and disabling the NVIDIA ones. In
addition, there is no xorg.conf file which NVIDIA asked to and it is
impossible to open XServer Settings (no card connected and no
configuration available).

Finally, when trying to install NVIDIA drivers manually from NVIDIA
page, the DKMS module complained about a non-finished installed package,
which was not shown if trying to execute an "apt --fix-broken install".

I thought it was maybe because my GPU card died but I was able to boot
to Windows and use the GPU normally.

I was going to submit this as a possible bug but I didn't do as there is
no properly crash on my system.

[Bug 1253638] Re: dynamic linker does not use DT_RUNPATH for transitive dependencies

2019-03-21 Thread Javier Sixto
This seems to be a feature of DT_RUNPATH that is do not follow transitive
dependencies.
The problem is ld linker since v2.27(debian), enables by default new dtags ( it
uses RUNPATH instead of RPATH), so some dependencies may not been found at
runtime. Of course add LD_LIBRARY_PATH env, will do the tric, but those who use
rpath options, are specially whiching to avoid that.

** Also affects: binutils (Ubuntu)

The problem comes from linker ld, which is in binutils.

[Bug 1784485] Re: [ZenBook S UX391UA, Realtek ALC294, Mic, Internal] No sound at all

2019-03-20 Thread Javier Marzan
Confirmed kernel 4.19.17 solved my problem.
Notebook Model: Asus Zenbook UX433FN
Dual Boot with Windows 10.

I changed the kernel with the visual interface of ukuu, easy and simple.
You just select the version, install, and then reboot. In the GRUB menu, select
Advanced Options for Ubuntu, and select the desired kernel version.
If you have an Nvidia card it's possible that ukuu gets stuck in "setting up
linux-headers" while installing the kernel version. Only thing you have to do
to solve this is Disable Secure Boot from the BIOS.

Thanks to all in this thread, saved my life :D
