[Bug 1766859] Re: Display corrupted in virtualbox
My main Windows 10 computer on VirtualBox 5.1.34 works fine. I tried on my laptop: host OS = Windows 10 Pro VirtualBox: 5.2.8 Works fine with and without 3D acceleration. Full screen window, and small window. I tried on another desktop: host OS = Lubuntu 18.04 daily Computer = Intel Celeron N3450, 4 gig ram VirtualBox : 5.2.10 from the VirtualBox web site (not the one from the Ubuntu repo). I got the screen corruption. But...if I maximize (hit the "+" in the top right of the vm window) and reset the vm to reboot it will sometimes work on the next try. Vice versa, hitting the "+" sign to put it back to windowed mode and resetting also sometimes fixes it on the next try. Changing the size may do nothing, it may just may be random after a reboot. It's failing inconsistently. It can definitely fail with 3D acceleration both enabled and disabled under an Ubuntu Host. [Bug 1766478] Re: Deepin terminal is installed in base install unintentionally
Steve, I hear you. And I apologize if this is a really dumb follow up question. But if I run "x-terminal-emulator" what launches...lxterminal. So...?? I thought deepin's tab/ssh approach was interesting and had potential. Unfortunately, my few minutes of testing deepin found many serious usability problems. I apologize if this sounds harsh. But the reality with linux is you need the console to get things done/unbreak things. Having to dive under the hood is what users fear most. Anything that clearly makes this experience better or worse has high impact. Being able to scroll back or resize a terminal window is essential functionality. Anything that makes this in any way complicated or broken is going to be received poorly. Deepin's borderless windows break consistency with every other Lubuntu app, and make it (even more of) a nightmare to resize the window. The fact that the scrollbar on the right auto-hides completely...after which even clicking and dragging where the scrollbar should be (even when the cursor changes from the text carrot to the pointer arrow!!!) won't allow you to click and scroll back to see past commands...The only non-obvious way to get the scroll bar to appear again (temporarily) is to press enter into the command prompt and then the scroll bar appears for a few seconds. The only way to move the window is to click and drag the top where the window title bar normally be...but the top is the same solid black as everything else so there's no clear delineation of where the top title bar should be. I think deepin has some nice ideas with the "+" to easily add a new tab and ssh sessions, etc. But a terminal who's ability to scroll back is broken is useless. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1766478 Title: Deepin terminal is installed in base install unintentionally To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxpanel/+bug/1766478/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I do not speak/read Swedish. But this shows up right after picking "Svenska" and selecting "Installera Lubuntu". The very next prompt has the "" text in the installer and it happens 100% of the time. Den valda platsen kommer att Note: I do not speak Swedish...nor do I have a Swedish keyboard. So after selecting "Svenska" I pressed F3 and set it to "Canada" so that my keyboard allows me to type the underscore character. I'm booting in legacy mode so this tweak gets more debug info: - press F6 to get additional options - hit escape at the pop-up, and then pressed the left arrow three times so the cursor is positioned in front of the "---" in the boot command line. - added this to the boot options: DEBCONF_DEBUG=developer DEBCONF_C_VALUES=true - add an extra space after =true - hit enter to start the install. Similar trick works in UEFI mode, just hit "e" to edit the command line, etc. When I see the onscreen I switched to an alternate console (control-alt-f2) and hit enter to activate the console: tail -n 50 /var/log/syslog | more It's choking on debconf string: localechooser/shortlist TXT2 "Den valda platsen kommer att " the next word in this string is "anvandas" (with the second a having the umlaut double-dots on top). [Bug 1746807] Re: 18.04 daily installer fails missing kernel
TLDR: try rebuilding the iso downgrading the four packages /pool/main/a/apt/*.deb to 1.6~alpha 5? Note: I pasted the info backwards...it's 1.6~alpha 5 that's the good version. As a test...I tried manually downgrading apt*.deb on-the fly: I created a virtual machine with a second (empty) cdrom drive. Once I got the missing kernel: I switch to alternate terminal.. chroot /target "apt-cdrom add" gives same error... Mounted the GOOD 20180131 iso into the vm as the second cdrom. mkdir /blah mount /dev/sr1 /blah cd /blah/pool/main/a/apt dpkg -i *.deb cd / umount /blah i.e. force load previous apt and apt-cdrom packages. apt-cdrom This no longer gives the error. Just as a test... cd /media/cdrom/pool/main/a/apt <-- original bad cdrom dpkg -i *.deb i.e. force load bad apt/apt-cdrom packages from latest 20180216 apt-cdrom This gives the stat no such file or directory error. So...downgrading the four packages /pool/main/a/apt/*.deb should work around the issue? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1746807 Title: 18.04 daily installer fails missing kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1746807/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1736309] Re: installer failed missing dpkg_1.19.0.4ubuntu1_amd64.deb
Lubuntu Alternate Workaround ... work around.. Basically...you manually replace tar symlink to busybox with real tar On working *17.10* (18.04's closest relative) system do this BEFORE installing 18.04... [replace /somewhere with ...a network share] ldd /bin/tar linux-vdso.so.1 (ignore this one) cp /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libacl.so.1 /somewhere cp /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libselinux.so.1 /somewhere cp /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 /somewhere cp /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libattr.so.1 /somewhere cp /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpcre.so.3 /somewhere cp /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libdl.so.2 /somewhere cp /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 /somewhere cp /bin/tar /somewhere Also copy /somewhere/fix.sh (see end of this message) Okay...so now /somewhere (i used a network share) has all the .so files and the binaries for tar. Now boot the regular 18.04 Lubuntu Alternate iso. When it bombs out Alt-F2 to switch to second console. Mount /somewhere (I used network share) mkdir /somewhere mount -t cifs -ousername=whatever,password=whatever //server/share /somewhere /somewhere/fix.sh ... script will silently setup everything... switch back to main console. Control-Alt-f1. Hit enter about 5 times to ignore errors and then retry the install...works. :) also copy this script to /somewhere/fix.sh -- #!/bin/sh # copy files cp /somewhere/libacl.so.1 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu cp /somewhere/libselinux.so.1 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu cp /somewhere/libc.so.6 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu cp /somewhere/libattr.so.1 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu cp /somewhere/libpcre.so.3 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu cp /somewhere/libdl.so.2 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu cp /somewhere/libpthread.so.0 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu cp /somewhere/libbfd-2.29.1-system.so /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ #cp /somewhere/libc.so.6 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ cp /somewhere/libz.so.1 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ cp /somewhere/libdl.so.2 /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ # break symlink to ar and replace with real ar #rm -rf /usr/bin/ar #cp /somewhere/ar /usr/bin/arcopy # #cat <<"EOM_AR" > /bin/ar ##!/bin/sh #echo $0 $* >> /test.log #export EXTRACT_UNSAFE_SYMLINKS=1 #/usr/bin/arcopy $* #EOM_AR # #chmod a+x /usr/bin/ar #ar part works isn't needed # break symlink to tar and replace with real tar + overwrite rm -rf /bin/tar cp /somewhere/tar /bin/tarcopy cat <<"EOM_TAR" > /bin/tar #!/bin/sh echo $0 $* >> /test.log if [ "$1" = "-k" ]; then /bin/tarcopy --overwrite $2 $3 $4 $5 $6 $7 $8 $9 else /bin/tarcopy $* fi EOM_TAR chmod a+x /bin/tar # fix existing /target/dev/* breaking reinstall attempt rm -rf /target/dev* -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1736309 Title: installer failed missing dpkg_1.19.0.4ubuntu1_amd64.deb To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debootstrap/+bug/1736309/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1347726] Re: ubuntu14.04 installation hang on "The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions"
Just an addendum. The above works for cd (which always forced read only). To also work for usb I had to add the "-oro" to the command: # -- Hack starts! block installer mounting /dev/sda1 on /media # We do this...by mounting the install media (/dev/sd0 or /dev/sd?) onto /media first! # so when the installer tries it's bad mount it silently fails INSTALL_MEDIA=$(mount | grep /cdrom | grep -E -o '/dev/[^ ]*') mount -oro "$INSTALL_MEDIA" /media # -- Hack ends -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1347726 Title: ubuntu14.04 installation hang on "The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer/+bug/1347726/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1591134] Re: system-config-kickstart only allows eth0 etc...
For me, if I have one network device it magically maps to eth0 and it works. However, if there are more than Ethernet devices then nothing is mapped to eth0 and it doesn't work. And by doesn't work, I mean the installer crashes. To duplicate just set to eth0 in kickstart and boot a VirtualBox virtual machine with two Intel Ethernet adapters. Work around is to manually edit the kickstart file: Original line: network --bootproto=dhcp --device=eth0 fixed line: network --bootproto=dhcp --device=auto -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1591134 Title: system-config-kickstart only allows eth0 etc... [Bug 1347726] Re: ubuntu14.04 installation hang on "The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions"
This is a really annoying bug. In my opinion there is no good really to mount /dev/sda1, the /boot partition from my previous install... I was able to work around the bug by adding this to the %pre section in the kickstart config: # -- Hack starts! block installer mounting /dev/sda1 on /media # We do this...by mounting the install media (/dev/sd0 or /dev/sd?) onto /media first! # so when the installer tries it's bad mount it silently fails INSTALL_MEDIA=$(mount | grep /cdrom | grep -E -o '/dev/[^ ]*') mount "$INSTALL_MEDIA" /media # -- Hack ends This might also work around the 33% partition freeze on /dev/sda1...I can't trigger that any more so can't test it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1347726 Title: ubuntu14.04 installation hang on "The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer/+bug/1347726/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1458039] Re: detecting keyboard layout is cutoff on small screens 800x600
This is still broken in the pre-release of Lubuntu 16.04.02 dated 2017-January-09. The width of the right column in the screen is wider than it needs to be. If this column could be shrunk down (or set to stretchy-self-size) then I think the screen would fit properly. There's a worse but related problem here...if you click on the title bar and drag the window to the right you will see it has maximize and minimize buttons. The maximize button does nothing. Unfortunately, the minimize button completely hides the window. There's no taskbar or minimized version of the window. So you are stuck at a blank desktop with no obvious way to get back to the install. :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1458039 Title: detecting keyboard layout is cutoff on small screens 800x600 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1458039/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 1497623] Re: during install right click on desktop and select terminal emulator does nothing
Getting to a terminal is very useful for trouble shooting. I.e. to disable zswap to work around long standing swap attached error during full disk encryption. [Bug 1490824] Re: "unsafe swap space detected" error prevents encrypted install when swap partition exists
Confirmed. Still broken. While there is a work around for this that works I would ask the devs to please consider the following three things and to increase the priority of this item. First, I don't think I'm the only one who thinks full disk encryption is a "must have" security feature on any operating system in 2015. Must have also implies must work. Secondly, this should just work out of box. If you know enough to google and figure out how to manually unmount the compressed ram swap then congratulations. You are the less than 1% of people who will succeed in getting this feature to work. The other 99% will just call this feature broken. Bug affects me too. I have installed Mint on a Dell Latitude E7440. Now it responds for a few minutes when I log in and then start not to work anymore. [Bug 1384297] Re: gpu i915 OOPS on power change intel_display_power_put+0xf9
What looks to be the same issue affects my Ubuntu 14.10 install on my MacBook Pro 10,2. The screen locks up, but the mouse is able to be moved and seen moving, and interacting with windows and desktop elements is stlll possible (eg if a video is playing with VLC, can press Space to pause and resume and hear audio), though because they are 'frozen', no visual changes happen. After about 5 minutes or so, I'm able to continue using the computer without issues.
