[Bug 626852] Re: Control characters don't swich even after changing keyboard layout
I tried with Terminator and the behavior is the same as that of gnome- terminal - control keys are still sent according to QWERTY layout. I shall update after I test with a live CD. -- Control characters don't swich even after changing keyboard layout https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/626852 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 626852] Re: Control characters don't swich even after changing keyboard layout
Steps would be: 1. Switch to Dvorak keyboard layout from QUERTY using configured short cut (System -> Preferences -> Keyboard -> Layout) 2. Key in text to gnome-terminal application and you can see it follows Dvorak layout 3. Intent to press any control key, say, Ctrl-U so that it kills till the start of line in BASH. I.e. In a QUERTY physical layout keyboard you'd have to press Ctrl-F to send Ctrl-U since you're in Dvorak layout. But gnome-terminal still reads it as Ctrl-F (instead of the intended Ctrl-U) and moves the cursor forward. I.e. gnome-terminal let's you key in normal and meta characters in Dvorak layout, but not control keys. This seems to work OK with other applications that I checked, say, Firefox. For example, to open a new tab (Ctrl-T) it accepts Ctrl-K in QUERTY physical key. Hope I made it clearer. (I don't mean to sound blunt - I could see that Adam Collard (presumably a team member) confirmed this bug. How come did it suddenly turn _unclear_ ?) -- Control characters don't swich even after changing keyboard layout https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/626852 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 498694] Re: sometimes resume from suspend doesn't ask for password, instead goes to straight to the desktop instead.
I've faced this on and off. I don't know what triggers this behavior, but once it started I think it stays until the system is rebooted (not sure if rebooting solves this though). One more thing I've noticed happening with this is that, the "Lock screen" from menu doesn't work - I've to use Ctrl-Alt-L instead. Also, when Ubuntu behaves normally, the Suspend sequence that I used see was the screen going blank first, followed by HDD activity and then going to sleep. Now, when I've this problem, I can see that my screen stays active, and volume tray icon has "x" overlay (muted), and then the screen goes blank followed by sleep. Later when I resume, it just directly goes to my desktop without asking for password! (`ps` says gnome-screensaver running) -- sometimes resume from suspend doesn't ask for password, instead goes to straight to the desktop instead. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/498694 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 491975] [NEW] Display doesn't sleep in Karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager I recently upgraded to Karmic from Jaunty - Dell Inspiron 6400. The problem I face now is that the Gnome power management's sleep timeouts are behaving inconsistently. I've set the display to sleep for 1 minute of inactivity. But from what I've observed, it never goes to sleep after boot up. But if I later open up power manager settings, re-select the 1 minute setting, and then click the "Make default" button, display _sometimes_ goes to sleep. I've noticed that /apps/gnome-power-manager/timeout/sleep_display_ac and /apps/gnome-power-manager/timeout/sleep_display_battery keys are set to 60 in gconf-editor. But it's rarely honored. FWIW, I've had problems with power manager and display even in Jaunty. I had raised this bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- power-manager/+bug/377166), but that seems to have disappeared now; but this one has come up! I've tried by disabling the screensaver, but that didn't help either. Please look into same; and let me know if I can give you logs/traces. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince I wonder if it'd be possible to implement RSVP (Rapid serial visual presentation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapid_Serial_Visual_Presentation) in Evince. At present I don't think any PDF (or any document reader) has this facility. I'd say, for users who are used to RSVP (for example in Firefox via. the Reasy extension), it's something that they can't live without. I understand it's not something that most readers care about, but I honestly think it's a feature that can be introduced, to help users read faster, nonetheless. Also, it's also a matter for reading comfortably without much eye strain, if not the speed. [Bug 377166] Re: Display wakes up bright on power loss, and doesn't go off
I tried to reproduce this bug with Alpha release 2 of Karmic Koala (live CD). However, this behave differently then. The display never shuts down if I were to boot it from CD. If I press Ctrl+Alt+L, display simply goes blank (with background lit), and never shuts off. As stupid as it might sound, I changed the passwd to check if pretending to be a "real" user makes a difference; but it didn't! So I guess I won't be able to reproduce it with live CD. As an aside, I noticed this behavior with Jaunty installation: I mostly use my laptop under my login (jeenu). However, I have another login for friends (guest). If it so happens that I do a "switch user" from jeenu to guest, then: * The LCD brightness is reset to maximum, no matter what preference is set in guest login. Also, it never comes back to default level, even if I switch back to jeenu - I've to crank it down manually (well, it does sometimes, but rarely) * Even if display were to sleep (either by timeout or by manually locking screen), it never shuts off! It just goes blank, with background lit. I think all these are related. I'm glad to provide you with any logs that you might require - please let me know. -- Display wakes up bright on power loss, and doesn't go off https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/377166 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 398816] Re: Key bindng for Back and Forward functionality
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 262073 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/262073 Well, I really don't think this is an exact duplicate. 262073 talks about a special key, found in special keyboards/laptops, being used for scrolling (i.e. page up and down; not back and forward). Here, the notion of back and forward is the one exhibited by, say, web browsers. My request, rather, is to make available: 1. *Normal* key bindings for back and forward functionality, just as most PDF reader would have. For example Alt+Left, Alt+Right. 2. Possibly a item in the Go menu 3. [Bug 398816] [NEW] Key bindng for Back and Forward functionality
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince There's no key binding for back and forward mechanism; there isn't a menu item either. The only way to access it is to have the button placed on the toolbar. Usually, on wide-screen machines, people hide toolbars and such to maximize vertical space. Also, the ubiquitous keyboard bindings for back and forward is Alt+Left and Alt+Right (say, in Adobe reader). But in Evince this is assigned to rotating pages. Given that the latter is a least-used functionality, no only it's a wastage of key binding, but also does it cause confusion for users migrating from common programs like Adobe reader. ** Affects: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: back evince forward keybinding ** Tags added: back evince forward keybinding -- Key bindng for Back and Forward functionality https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/398816 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I don't think I notice this now a days. I remember encountering this problem way more than once when I reported. IIRC, I was using 8.04 then, but 8.10 now. Either the problem was not with Firefox, or that it got fixed in the later version. I think this can be closed for now; I'll sure update if I encounter the problem again. -- :J -- Wrong display when visiting Google groups https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/255569 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: [Sticky Notes 2.24.1 on Intepid Ibex] If I toggle any of the check-boxes in the preferences window of the applet, it immediately closes, without explicitly clicking the close button. [Bug 134749] Re: Notification baloon tooltip appears in wrong place
I'm seeing the same problem with Ibex release as well. I've the task and main-menu bar moved to the bottom and I removed the top desktop-menu. I.e. it's exactly like MS Windows. But I still see the balloons appearing at the top-left of desktop, pointing upwards, as if my menu is there. -- Notification baloon tooltip appears in wrong place https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/134749 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 254405] Re: No media works when a flash video is being streamed in Firefox. Some times audio freezes afer streaming is finshed
I installed the plug-in and other media can now co-exist with streamed flash media. However, post install, I notice that Firefox has become more unstable than it was, occasionally crashing when stream flash videos. Re: [Bug 254405] Re: No media works when a flash video is being streamed in Firefox. Some times audio freezes afer streaming is finshed
To be honest, I don't remember whether I installed the Flash plug-in separately. All I remember is that I didn't explicitly ask to install it -- probably it got included when I selected some other ones to install. Nevertheless, I think, that doesn't matter now. I think I was using ALSA when I first discovered the problem, and then searched around for restarting the sound driver alone. This brought me to PulseAudio and I chose PulseAudio since then (for no obvious reasons though). Now, I changed everything to ALSA, as you suggested. I opened a YouTube site with a flash media streaming. Meanwhile, I tried to playback a video with mplayer. I found that the mplayer video was frozen, until I close the firefox page with the YouTube video! To repeat, I'm using ALSA this time (but neither logged out nor restarted the laptop after I changed the sound settings) . Let me know if I can provide you more details. Thanks in advance :) I had modified those fields so that pulse audio is used for every item present there; I can't recall what all were there before my change. Are you suggesting that I use ALSA instead of PulseAudio? After I received this mail, I switched everything to ALSA back. I see. So what do we do? Shall I log a new defect for Flash plug-in then? AFAIK, flash plug-in is from Adobe, isn't it?
