[Bug 391398] [NEW] Applications segfault with gtk+ version 2.17.2 when selecting listbox values

2009-06-23 Thread Jeff Greene
Public bug reported:

Description:
After updating gtk+2.0 from version 2.17.0 to 2.17.2 on Ubuntu Karmic Koala,
gtk+ applications crash from a segfault caused by something in the
libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.1702.0 file.

Applications Affected:
evince
transmission
nautilus
Other gtk+ applications that call this file.

How to Recreate crash:
Open up an application (such as transmission) and go to a listbox and scroll
with the mouse wheel (sometimes clicking will also crash it).

Note:
When launching affected programs from terminal, this message appears:
Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_tree_sortable_set_sort_column_id: assertion
`GTK_IS_TREE_SORTABLE (sortable)' failed

Output from dmesg after crash:
segfault at dc01f060 ip 7f3cf56fee59 sp 7fff22ac7f20 error 4 in
libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.1702.0[7f3cf5649000+43e000]

Workaround:
Reverting to 2.17.0-0ubuntu1 fixes these problems.

[Bug 109917] Re: [apport] package netatalk failed to install/upgrade:

2007-10-01 Thread Jeff Greene
Hi! I have some great news (I think).
I am not sure what is the standard for choosing a host name, but Ubuntu let me
pick:
foobar
I assumed that this is an acceptable host name. I know that on Mac OS X, it
would look like this:
foobal.local

The problem is how hostname parses names from the /etc/hosts file.
In the configuration script for netatalk, this command is called:
hostname --short

In the man pages, it states that the --short option makes it return the host
name in /etc/hosts, but cut after the first dot.
Obviously, since foobar has no dot, it returns an error.

I am not sure if this is a bug or not with hostname. Are you supposed to
have a hostname with no dot? What is the significance of it?

Anyways, if it is acceptable to have a hostname with no dot, I was able
to find a good workaround for the configuration script to allow both
cases to work.

The line of code in one (or more) of the configuration files has this:
ATALK_NAME=`/bin/hostname --short`

This can be changed to:
ATALK_NAME=`/bin/hostname | /bin/grep -v "\." || /bin/hostname --short`

With the revised line it takes into account hostnames that come with or
without dots and should solve the problem.

So now either hostname, netatalk, or some Ubuntu package which allows
the user to pick a hostname needs to be fixed given the circumstances.

I'm not entirely sure how hostnames/domains work and if it varies from
Linux to Mac OS X.

I hope this was helpful. Can anyone else add input? Should I or someone
else try to make a patch?

see if it mentions anything about your bcm43xx drivers or wireless

Interesting...
In your xorg.conf file, you seem to be loading the "nv" driver, not the

[Bug 81010] gnome-applets broken due to missing dependency (liboobs-1-2)

2007-01-22 Thread Jeff Greene
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

In feisty, gnome-applets (2.17.1-0ubuntu3) depends on liboobs-1-2, but

I believe the cause of the error is that it was trying to install grub
on an invalid device. You could try doing (hd2) or /dev/sda instead of
(sda) for where to install grub.

I believe the cause of this problem is dependency problems with console-

Since nUbuntu isn't a standard Ubuntu distribution, I believe this isn't
a problem with ubiquity, but a problem with nUbuntu and its packages.

2006-12-03 Thread Jeff Greene
Here is the source of the error. It is weird because it should be a
valid drive judging by the partitions listed in the partman log. Somehow
your drive or the way you partitioned your drive is messed up.

Nov 16 01:03:58 ubuntu grub-installer: info: Running chroot /target
/sbin/grub-install --no-floppy "(hd0)"
Nov 16 01:03:59 ubuntu grub-installer: /dev/hda1 does not have any

[Bug 71627] Re: installer crashed: GrubInstaller failed with code 1

2006-12-03 Thread Jeff Greene
This is the error:

Nov 12 19:19:34 ubuntu grub-installer: info: Running chroot /target
/sbin/grub-install --no-floppy "(hd0)"
Nov 12 19:19:34 ubuntu grub-installer: Probing devices to guess BIOS drives.
This may take a long time.
Nov 12 19:19:35 ubuntu grub-installer: /dev/hda6: Not found or not a block
device.
Nov 12 19:19:35 ubuntu grub-installer: error: Running 'grub-install
--no-floppy "(hd0)"' failed.

For some reason it thinks hd0 is not able to install grub.

In partman, you have two drives.

1)
parted_server: OUT: 1 119296-513409023513289728 primary fat16
/dev/mmcblk0p1

2)
parted_server: OUT: 1 32256-19987430391998710784 primary fat32
/dev/hda1

parted_server: OUT: 2 1998743040-17725478399 15726735360 primary
ntfs/dev/hda2

parted_server: OUT: 5 17725510656-56951838719 39226328064 logical
ntfs/dev/hda5

parted_server: OUT: 6 56951870976-77926302719 20974431744 logical
ext2/dev/hda6

parted_server: OUT: 7 77926334976-80023749119 2097414144 logical
linux-swap /dev/hda7

Maybe it is trying to install it on the other drive it found, which could be an
invalid device. I would try installing it on /dev/hda, which I believe is a
valid parameter for grub. I looked online and it said that it can either have
the device location (ex: /dev/hda or /dev/sda), or the grub name (ex: hd0 or
hd1).

I hope that helps!

2006-12-03 Thread Jeff Greene
I believe the cause of your error is that grub was installing to an
invaild device. It tried to install to (sd0), which doesn't exist. The
correct drive would be /dev/sda or (hd1), maybe (hd0).

[Bug 69159] Re: Installer crashed while installing grub to sdb3

2006-12-03 Thread Jeff Greene
I believe the error here is that the install_device was invalid. Instead
of '(sdb3)', it should have been '(hd1)' or /dev/sdb.

Oct 29 22:21:55 ubuntu grub-installer: info: Installing grub on '(sdb3)'
Oct 29 22:21:55 ubuntu grub-installer: info: grub-install supports --no-floppy
Oct 29 22:21:55 ubuntu grub-installer: info: Running chroot /target
/sbin/grub-install --no-floppy "(sdb3)"
Oct 29 22:21:56 ubuntu grub-installer: Probing devices to guess BIOS drives.
This may take a long time.
Oct 29 22:21:56 ubuntu grub-installer: Format of install_device not recognized.

[Bug 74178] Re: [FEISTY-12/01/06] Ubiquity Installer Crashed

2006-12-03 Thread Jeff Greene
I believe you just have to remove any packages with ubiquity in the name
and also gparted if you want an installation that is identical to what
should be installed. I think it crashed just as it was trying to remove
the installation packages.

This is not really a bug as it should work with no prior setup because I
believe it is built in to the 2.6 kernel. You may want to file a Support ticket
or search around for solutions on Google. I found this which might be of help:
