A temporary fix is just to downgrade the client side to an older
version.

Repositories that have been edited with version 1.5.x will be
unaccessible, but new (or old) repositories work perfectly.

[Bug 123868] Re: f-spot does not start

I have exactly the same error. I had it several months ago, and after a 
reinstall, it still remains.
There are no error messages on the cli.

When I remove the complete '/$HOME/.gnome2/f-spot' folder, I get one (probably 
unrelated) error:
'WARNING: The add-in 'FSpot.__DefaultExporters,1.6' is trying to extend 
'/FSpot/Menus/Exports', but there isn't any compatible add-in defining this 
extension point'
When I close f-spot, the folder ' /$HOME/.gnome2/f-spot' is recreated.
