If you clear the box for prefered web browser and then tell firefox to check whether it is the default www browser it will ask to make it so. One more crucial thing: In prefered applications my webbrowser was set to /usr/lib/firefox/firefox "%s" Upon removing the quotes from %s, apport worked perfectly. The problem is that when apport send the url to firefox there is a set of paranthesis wrapped around the url string. If one opens the terminal and does firefox "\"http://www.google.com\""; the problem is accurately replicated. This is the same problem. the %22 in the url are double quotes. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: serpentine Steps taken to receive error on a fresh boot. 1. Boot (obviously) 2. Insert blank disk. 3. When asked, tell Gnome to burn an audio CD. 4. Serpentine loads. Add 192kbps variable-bit-rate audio tracks to the list of tracks to burn. 5. After waiting for Serpentine to import the tracks (12 in this case), click "Write to Disk" button. 5. Disc writing window opens, begins converting tracks at which point Serpentine gave the error. The disk did burn successfully since it's a different program and, oddly, Serpentine did not actually crash. Perhaps, the program that crashed was a subprocess. my operation appears to have been much simpler than bug 63900. while the older bug was using a combination of openssh and scp. i'm see that scp depends on coreutils which may include cp. in conclusion, whether the two bugs are related, i can not be certain. to me, as a novice bug reporter, they appear different, but perhaps since 63900 rely on coreutils, like i said earlier, it may be related.
