Not meant to discourage anyone from reporting bugs which affect all
Ubuntu users, that's definitely a good thing to do. Just wanted to make
sure you were aware of the option.

Also make sure to purge any existing packages, manager, viewer, common,
extensions, etc. before switching between the two. Though I think
they're compatible at this point, better to be safe.

The preview pane allows custom text and always has.

It should probably be more obvious but it is there.

0.7.4 which was recently released allows custom preview text in browse

[Bug 1810907] Re: Can't delete fonts

2019-01-08 Thread Jerry Casiano
You have no font files installed in your personal font directory.

Font Manager only allows deletion of files installed in the default user
font directory.

At this time : ~/.local/share/fonts

0.7.4 makes this much clearer by showing a placeholder and explaining this in
the help documents.

[Bug 1796237] Re: stack of errors in terminal no fonts in UI

2018-10-09 Thread Jerry Casiano
Your welcome.

I suspect there's only a couple things that could cause this issue.

Database corruption.
Permissions issue.

Running the application using sudo is a terrible idea, so please don't
do that.

Database corruption shouldn't really be an issue, but it can happen
sometimes.

Anyway, glad it helped.

Status in font-manager package in Debian:

Bug description:
When starting font-manager it queries the installed font files. Until

  2 ways to reproduce:

  a)
  - launch font-manager
expected result: font-manager loads quickly and is ready for operation
result: font-manager faints a crash but is in fact alright after 20
minutes querying the installed font files

Is it against policy for a spin to ship with a PPA enabled?

Seems like that would be the easiest solution.

It's probably just my impression, from watching it happen in the past, but
even trying to take over an obviously orphaned package can turn into an
ordeal with Debian.

Re: [Bug 1579536] Re: "Querying installed files" process on start-up takes abnormally long (~20minutes)

2016-08-25 Thread Jerry Casiano
No.

The current version isn't even written in the same language. And both are
basically prototyping, throwaway code, on the way to 1.0, so I'm certainly
not digging into something I deprecated years ago. I barely have time for
the project as it is.

I tried contacting the maintainers to work with them years ago. And as you
know others have filed bugs.

So as far I'm concerned, Ubuntu users can simply use the PPA, Debian users
can build from source or build a Debian package from git.

git clone https://github.com/FontManager/master.git
cd master/build-aux
make deb

That's about all the work I'm willing to do to support users of a
distribution which chooses to ship outdated/broken shit in the name of
stability.

Agreed.

Shipping an ancient, broken version is worse than not shipping it at
all.

Sad part is, that packaging work is mostly done, there is a debian
folder in git that is used for PPA builds, it may need minor cleanup but
it's not like starting from scratch.

I was actually trying to get the attention of the package maintainers or

a response through email. I've submitted similar comments to all open

[Bug 1316197] Re: cant compile version from SVN

2014-05-05 Thread Jerry Casiano
This bug can be closed as invalid.

It is not a bug.

This version is not in the repositories yet.

It is not even a released version...

[Bug 1316197] Re: cant compile version from SVN

2014-05-05 Thread Jerry Casiano
In regards to the version of the application available in the
repositories. It is thoroughly broken. Some distributions such as Arch
have patched their way around it.

This is the result of years passing without an update. Bit rot. That's
my fault. Unfortunately, real life gets in the way of hobbies sometimes.

In any case, the version in SVN is close, and much improved I believe,
there are only a few more features left to implement before an actual
release can be made.

At that point, a month or two at most, hopefully it will be made
available in the repositories quickly.

For anybody interested in testing please see

https://code.google.com/p/font-manager/wiki/HowTo_SVN_Ubuntu

Thanks.

[Bug 1292777] Re: Font Manager creates deprecated ~/.font.conf

2014-03-24 Thread Jerry Casiano
As there is a rewrite underway there won't be anymore releases in this
series. Packagers can feel free to apply the patch provided by the
reporter till the new version is ready.

Thanks again.

[Bug 961034] Re: wrong wording when importing fonts

2012-10-18 Thread Jerry Casiano
I apologize for not addressing this sooner. :-)

The reality is that the version of the program this bug applies to is
pretty much dead.

Work on a Gtk+ 3 version written in Vala is ongoing. And that's my
current focus.

I will not be making any more releases of the Python version.

That said maintainers should feel free to patch the current version as
needed till the new one is released.

[Bug 713738] Re: font-manager package crashes on startup

2011-02-05 Thread Jerry Casiano
Haven't seen that before...

Try

rm ~/.cache/font-manager/font-manager.*

See if that helps.

[Bug 580991] Re: [needs-packaging] Font Manager

2010-08-09 Thread Jerry Casiano
Great. Thank you.

0.5.6 was just released yesterday. I think the only changes that might
affect packaging are the addition of libpango1.0-dev to Build-Depends.
Font Manager uses a couple of functions defined in pango-language.h and
I'm not sure whether anything else pulls that package in.

Again, thanks for packaging Font Manager and if there is anything I can
do on my end to make life easier don't hesitate to file an issue on the
homepage.

+ Sorry, forgot to add there's a debian folder in SVN, though I doubt it
+ meets Debian packaging standards, it does build in pbuilder so it may be
+ useful as a starting point. :-)
