[Bug 678004] Re: package ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-11-22 Thread Jerry Chong
It should just a problem with the dpkg script UI, manually upgrading
msttcorefonts from the console using apt-get or aptitude works fine
otherwise since the EULA dialog will instead be displayed in
console/ncurses form.

[Bug 678004] [NEW] package ttf-mscorefonts-installer 3.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-11-20 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: msttcorefonts

When starting the upgrade from Update Manager UI, a dialog box pops up:
Declined TrueType core fonts for the Web EULA - If you do not agree to the
TrueType core fonts for the Web EULA license terms you cannot install this
software. Clicking forward immediately cancels the upgrade.
There should have been a EULA acceptance dialog before this but it wasn't
shown, and the upgrade presumes that I have declined it.

[Bug 633210] [NEW] [maverick] Firefox tooltips disappearing too fast, again

2010-09-08 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Firefox 3.6 fixes a UI bug in which alt-text or tooltips shown by mouse
hover was disappearing too fast, tracked at
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395668 and
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/239462

However, this bug reappears after updating to Firefox 3.6.9 in the
Maverick 10.10 beta. Tooltip display times are even significantly
shorter than before 3.6, and even worse cannot be prevented from being
hidden by slightly moving the mouse around the tooltipped area.

[Bug 630338] [NEW] Release-upgrades should always use a local mirror

2010-09-04 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

When attempting to update to the Maverick 10.10 beta, using update-
manager -c -d:

1. The DistUpgrade tool and its related Python packages, if I'm not wrong, was
downloaded from the main US mirror archive.ubuntu.com.
2. At the Setting software channels step after disabling 3rd party sources,
the download mirror that is added to /etc/apt/sources.list is again the US
mirror http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu;. The original line in sources.list:
deb ftp://mirror.upm.edu.my/ubuntu/ karmic main universe multiverse
restricted is ignored and commented out instead.

So the main problem is that the Ubuntu upgrade is now subject to network
conditions between the user's ISP and trunk line to the US (in my case,
I suspect our ISPs have been throttling downloads from the US, so my
download speed is incredibly slow compared to my ADSL plan's usual
speed.) - even though it would have been trivially straightforward to
determine which mirror the user has already chosen to use, and whether
the mirror has up-to-date packages to support the Maverick upgrade.

[Bug 539057] [NEW] ibus indicator icon does not respect show in system tray preference

2010-03-15 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ibus

When bug #497878 was fixed to enable application indicators for ibus,
it's apparently ignoring the new preference Show icon in system tray
that was introduced as an upstream fix to bug #422253. As a remedy, ibus
should check whether the preference was ticked before it uses the new
application indicator framework to display an icon.

[Bug 326426] Re: run.py crashed with AttributeError in _CheckSoftwareUpdates()

2009-11-29 Thread Jerry Chong
Actually, would that fix bug #411123? (although marked as duplicate it's
caused by the same reason)

Seems that the problem is test_connection returning false due to
http://sddb.subdownloader.net/xmlrpc/ being unavailable, causing
self.xmlrpc_server to be null, so any subsequent xml-rpc calls will
fail, for example from
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/30086961/Traceback.txt:

  File /usr/share/subdownloader/modules/SDService.py, line 402, in
_SearchSubtitles
self.xmlrpc_server.SearchSubtitles(search_array)
AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'SearchSubtitles'

Might be better to solve it where 'test_connection' returns false?

[Bug 326426] Re: run.py crashed with AttributeError in _CheckSoftwareUpdates()

2009-11-28 Thread Jerry Chong
Looking at the console debug log seems that it's only occurring because
the Subdownloader xml-rpc server is down (visiting the url
http://sddb.subdownloader.net/xmlrpc/ at time of posting shows 503 -
Service Unavailable), so a fix is probably needed to catch the
connection error accordingly.

filesystem, the BPM detection extension appears to get stuck and no
longer process any further entries.

Debug console output:

[Debug 23:24:26.972] GStreamer running beat detection on /home/.../.../MP3
file.mp3
[Debug 23:24:30.329] Saving BPM of 62 for file:///home/.../.../MP3 file.mp3
[Debug 23:24:30.408] GStreamer running beat detection on /home/.../.../MP3
file.mp3
-- stops here --

Only after removing the file from the library and then restarting
Banshee does the extension continue. (There was a Gstreamer error about
error analyzing the file's BPM, but unfortunately I didn't manage to
capture it.)

[Bug 458995] [NEW] [karmic] Trackerd goes into infinite loop indexing .xsession-errors

2009-10-23 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tracker

A few seconds after start indexing, Tracker starts consuming 100% cpu
(or 50% for dual core), and checking .local/share/tracker/trackerd.log
shows that trackerd is stuck in an infinite loop:

23 Oct 2009, 19:27:22: Tracker: Received monitor event:2-'IN_MODIFY' for
file:'/home/zanglang/.xsession-errors' (cookie:0)
23 Oct 2009, 19:27:22: Tracker: Received monitor event:2-'IN_MODIFY' for

23 Oct 2009, 19:27:22: Tracker: Received monitor event:2-'IN_MODIFY' for
file:'/home/zanglang/.xsession-errors' (cookie:0)
...

Checking tracker-preferences shows that I indeed had .xsession-errors
listed under Ignored File Patterns.

The bug appears to be 100% reproducible everytime I start trackerd.

I'm not sure if it's related to previous 100% CPU bugs, but Googling
returns nothing about this .xession-error problem, so I assume it's not
a duplicate.

[Bug 443226] [NEW] gdebi's preview should highlight sourcecode files (wishlist)

2009-10-05 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdebi

Karmic gdebi's preview screen is pretty nice, but showing everything as
plaintext is rather boring. :P

It should be rather trivial to pipe the preview text through python-
pygments and highlight the code, using pygment's mimetype detection.

[Bug 441075] [NEW] [karmic] jetty depends on libtomcat5.5-java which no longer exists

[Bug 425283] [NEW] [karmic] Tomboy cannot connect to UbuntuOne

2009-09-06 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

Might be related to bug #416865.

In Tomboy 0.15.6-0ubuntu2 the default web sync server is set to
https://ubuntuone.com/notes/. When clicking the connect button, the text
changes to 'Cannot connect'. The following stacktrace is shown in the
console if --debug is used.

[ERROR]: Failed to get auth URL from https://ubuntuone.com/notes/. Exception

[Bug 404760] [NEW] gnubiff checking fails and doesn't recover on connection interruption

2009-07-26 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnubiff

I have a flaky wifi connection, with one Gmail IMAP account set up. If a
connection interruption occurs when gnubiff is checking mail, it never
recovers and will always show the 'Error' status for that account, even
if afterwards the connection is stable.

Opening and closing the preferences dialog seems to reset this state so
it can check mail properly again.

Suggested fix: Gnubiff should handle network errors elegantly, and
continue to check emails after a network error.

2009-05-04 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-firmware

Jaunty does not work out of the box with a D-Link AirPlus DWL-G650+ wifi
card. When inserting the card, the kernel detects the card and loads the
acx111 module correctly. However, network-manager reports the following
during detection:

NetworkManager: info (wlan0): driver does not support SSID scans (scan_capa
0x00).
... (loading)
NetworkManager: WARN  nm_error_monitoring_device_link_state(): error
monitoring device for netlink events: error occurred while waiting for data on
socket

Afterwards I tried to test its wifi capabilities. 'Iwlist scanning'
fails, and 'iwconfig wlan0 essid essid' does not associate. When
enabling wireless in network-manager, the kernels locks up and I had to
reboot with Alt-Sysrq-B.

To fix it I had to use the same method as in Dapper onwards, i.e. use
ndiswrapper to load D-Link's firmware distributed from their website.

[Bug 354990] [NEW] Nautilus should recommend installing Packagekit on unknown files

2009-04-04 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: packagekit

On Jaunty beta, double-clicking a file with an unknown association, e.g.
Microsoft's CHM format pops up the following message.

There is no application installed for CHM document files. Do you want
to search for an application to open this file?

Upon clicking yes however the following cryptic error is thrown:

There was an internal error trying to search for applications:
The name org.freedesktop.PackageKit was not provided by any .service files

While I understand that this means that the Packagekit service needs to
be installed, the error message should be changed to something more
user-friendly, or like how Ubuntu offers to install non-free codecs,
automatically prompt to install Packagekit to continue this use case.

[Bug 113088] Re: Microdia 0c45:613b webcam not properly supported

2008-11-01 Thread Jerry Chong
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 87054 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/87054

Bumping this bug again. This bug is *not* a duplicate of bug #87054, as
the SN9C10x driver is not the same as the SN9C20x driver. Please remove
the duplicate status if possible.

Doing a quick test on Intrepid shows the following syslog, showing that
the kernel now properly recognizes that the webcam is not supported:

Nov 1 23:49:42 thor kernel: [639813.348019] usb 2-2: new full speed USB device
using uhci_hcd and address 5
Nov 1 23:49:42 thor kernel: [639813.509446] usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen
from 1 choice
Nov 1 23:49:42 thor kernel: [639813.514032] usb 2-2: SN9C120 PC Camera
Controller detected (vid:pid 0x0C45:0x613B)
Nov 1 23:49:42 thor kernel: [639813.645034] usb 2-2: No supported image sensor
detected for this bridge
Nov 1 23:49:43 thor chipcardd[6405]: devicemanager.c: 3373: Changes in
hardware list
Nov 1 23:49:54 thor kernel: [639825.288049] usb 2-2: USB disconnect, address 5
Nov 1 23:49:55 thor chipcardd[6405]: devicemanager.c: 3373: Changes in
hardware list

To clarify, the SN9C20x drivers only support the bridges listed here:
http://groups.google.com/group/microdia/web/list-of-known-microdia-webcams
while the SN9C10x supports these: SN9C101, SN9C102, SN9C103, SN9C105, SN9C120.

Someone has indeed released the source code for the driver, but compiling seems
to fail with Intrepid's kernel headers... can someone try it?

[Bug 139686] Re: Pidgin 2.2.0 in Gutsy

2007-09-17 Thread Jerry Chong
Sorry, for some reason 2.2.0~ppa2 is still on Pending Removal status
for my PPA and not starting the rebuild for both architectures yet. I'm
not quite sure what's causing the delay... still getting the hang of
these packaging stuff. :)

I hope my package is not what's causing the problems. Not sure about the
bad image index errors (icon cache not updated/packaging error with
pidgin-data perhaps?)... we should probably figure out the causes in a
separate bug report if it keeps reoccuring.

For now, since 2.2.0 has just landed in sid should I merge from Debian
onto the PPA?

[Bug 139541] Re: Google talk account show up as XMPP after I save the settings

2007-09-17 Thread Jerry Chong
I would like this to be fixed as an Interface Enhancement as well.
While it makes sense code-wise to not create a separate plugin just for
GTalk, I think having it automatically switch into Jabber would be a
little confusing for new users. Empathy handles it quite well, as an
example.

[Bug 133164] Re: [gutsy] rhythmbox crashed with the artwork plugin in PyImport_GetModuleDict()

2007-08-30 Thread Jerry Chong
It's a UPnP framework used by Rhythmbox for music sharing. Anyway, good
point, disabling UPnP did fix the conflict crash. But since both of them
are part of upstream, and python-coherence hasn't landed in the
repository yet (found nothing on packages.ubuntu.com), is it still
considered an Ubuntu bug, or should I change it to upstream?

[Bug 91237] Re: java library not found

Looking inside /usr/bin/iriverter it seems that if we've just appended

fine:

-classpath
$CLASSPATH:${prefix}/share/java/iriverter.jar:/usr/lib/java/swt.jar

[Bug 130065] pidgin-libnotify causes notification-daemon to crash with SIGSEGV

2007-08-02 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: notification-daemon

Gaim/Pidgin's libnotify bubble causes notification-daemon to crash.
Seems to be unrelated to bug #127925 or bug #129120 as the stacktrace
shows it originating from countdown_expose_cb, theme.c and
/usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 one level lower.

Changing the gconf key on /app/notification-daemon/theme to 'standard'
avoids the crash, so narrowing it down to the Ubuntu engine.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: notification-daemon

Gaim/Pidgin's libnotify bubble causes notification-daemon to crash.
Seems to be unrelated to bug #127925 or bug #129120 as the stacktrace
shows it originating from countdown_expose_cb, theme.c and
  /usr/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0 one level lower.

Changing the gconf key on /app/notification-daemon/theme to 'standard'
avoids the crash, so narrowing it down to the Ubuntu engine.

[Bug 128741] Re: Lightning extension installs but has display issues

I can confirm this with the repository version of Thunderbird on Gutsy
as well. A fresh 2.0 download from the Mozilla website works fine,
however.

[Bug 117860] Re: Eclipse Crashes A Lot on Feisty

Crashing when Eclipse is trying to load the license window would be related to
bug #112925, which hasn't been resolved yet:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eclipse/+bug/112925

Which JDK/JRE are you using?

[Bug 104199] Re: Compiz cannot interact with top bar when maximized

2007-05-22 Thread Jerry Chong
Confirmed on ATI Radeon Mobility M6 LY. Wobbly windows is disabled,
happens even with metacity disabled (except Firefox, which curiously
works), and 'gnome-windows-decorator' doesn't exist. Beryl works fine,
though.

[Bug 113088] Microdia 0c45:613b webcam not properly supported

2007-05-07 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

When my webcam is plugged in it gets detected properly, the gspcav
driver loads and sets up /dev/video correctly, but the picture captured
is completely wrong (almost-empty static image, color distortions around
edge, see image below).

[Bug 98947] Re: No wireless internet connection in Kernel 2.6.20.13

2007-04-24 Thread Jerry Chong
I have the same symptoms, although with a different chipset, ACX111
using ndiswrapper 1.9. Wireless with WPA only works intermittently since
upgrading from 2.6.20.9 to 2.6.20.10 onwards, up to .15. I haven't tried
upgrading ndiswrapper yet (1.42 now) as Paulo suggested, going to do
that soon.

[Bug 94674] Dhcdbd doesn't recognize permanent (-1) DHCP leases

2007-03-22 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dhcdbd

When used with a router setup that gives out a permanent lease to
certain DHCP clients (e.g. my laptop in this case), dhcdbd fails to
parse the dhcp lease time and prints out an error in /var/log/messages.

It looks like this:

Mar 22 16:48:49 localhost kernel: [  786.148000] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE):
wlan0: link becomes ready
Mar 22 16:48:55 localhost dhcdbd: dhco_input_option: Value -1 cannot be
converted to type L
Mar 22 16:48:55 localhost dhcdbd: dhco_parse_option_settings: bad option
setting: new_dhcp_lease_time = -1
Mar 22 16:48:55 localhost dhcdbd: dhco_input_option: Value -1 cannot be
converted to type L
Mar 22 16:48:55 localhost dhcdbd: dhco_parse_option_settings: bad option
setting: old_dhcp_lease_time = -1

While this doesn't cause any problems, it would be good to at least fix
the functionality.

Confirmed on Edgy 6.10 with a DWL-G650+ card. Network-manager will only
work once switched to ndiswrapper.

Has anyone tried out the alternatives on the ACX100 page?

[Bug 75707] Nautilus thumbnail preview is broken

2006-12-13 Thread Jerry Chong
Public bug reported:

Comix used to come with the program 'comicthumb' for generating
thumbnails to preview comic book files in Nautilus. As of 3.6.1-edgy/all
/usr/bin/comicthumb seems to be missing (no longer packaged with .deb),
even though the gconf schema for thumbnails is still there?

[Bug 38586] Re: [dapper] NM has problems obtaining DHCP with acx_pci driver

2006-12-13 Thread Jerry Chong
Sure! Try these links:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=110944
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=74651
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=285809 (This is for Broadcom cards,
but the steps are pretty similar)

A few things of note:
- you'll need to install ndiswrapper-utils-1.8 instead of 1.1 (there's 2
similarly-named packages in the repository). For some reason 1.1 didn't work
for me.
- You'll need to prevent the acx_pci kernel module from loading so ndiswrapper
can take over, so add: blacklist acx to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, and then
do sudo modprobe -r acx before moving on to loading ndiswrapper.
- You'll need to use this link:
ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/wireless/dwl-g650+_rev_Bx/dwl-g650+_bx_drv_utility_v3.10b19.zip
for the driver.

The rest is just the same as the links I've posted. I sincerely
apologize for hijacking this bug report though. Good luck. ;)
