[Bug 633210] [NEW] [maverick] Firefox tooltips disappearing too fast, again
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox Firefox 3.6 fixes a UI bug in which alt-text or tooltips shown by mouse hover was disappearing too fast, tracked at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=395668 and https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/239462 However, this bug reappears after updating to Firefox 3.6.9 in the Maverick 10.10 beta. [Bug 630338] [NEW] Release-upgrades should always use a local mirror
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager When attempting to update to the Maverick 10.10 beta, using update- manager -c -d: 1. The DistUpgrade tool and its related Python packages, if I'm not wrong, was downloaded from the main US mirror archive.ubuntu.com. 2. At the Setting software channels step after disabling 3rd party sources, the download mirror that is added to /etc/apt/sources.list is again the US mirror http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu;. The original line in sources.list: deb ftp://mirror.upm.edu.my/ubuntu/ karmic main universe multiverse restricted is ignored and commented out instead. So the main problem is that the Ubuntu upgrade is now subject to network conditions between the user's ISP and trunk line to the US (in my case, I suspect our ISPs have been throttling downloads from the US, so my download speed is incredibly slow compared to my ADSL plan's usual speed.) - even though it would have been trivially straightforward to determine which mirror the user has already chosen to use, and whether the mirror has up-to-date packages to support the Maverick upgrade. Looking at the console debug log seems that it's only occurring because the Subdownloader xml-rpc server is down (visiting the url http://sddb.subdownloader.net/xmlrpc/ at time of posting shows 503 - Service Unavailable), so a fix is probably needed to catch the connection error accordingly. [Bug 458995] [NEW] [karmic] Trackerd goes into infinite loop indexing .xsession-errors
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: tracker A few seconds after start indexing, Tracker starts consuming 100% cpu (or 50% for dual core), and checking .local/share/tracker/trackerd.log shows that trackerd is stuck in an infinite loop: 23 Oct 2009, 19:27:22: Tracker: Received monitor event:2-'IN_MODIFY' for file:'/home/zanglang/.xsession-errors' (cookie:0) 23 Oct 2009, 19:27:22: Tracker: Received monitor event:2-'IN_MODIFY' for file:'/home/zanglang/.xsession-errors' (cookie:0) 23 Oct 2009, 19:27:22: Tracker: Received monitor event:2-'IN_MODIFY' for file:'/home/zanglang/.xsession-errors' (cookie:0) 23 Oct 2009, 19:27:22: Tracker: Received monitor event:2-'IN_MODIFY' for file:'/home/zanglang/.xsession-errors' (cookie:0) ... Checking tracker-preferences shows that I indeed had .xsession-errors listed under Ignored File Patterns. The bug appears to be 100% reproducible everytime I start trackerd. [Bug 404760] [NEW] gnubiff checking fails and doesn't recover on connection interruption
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnubiff I have a flaky wifi connection, with one Gmail IMAP account set up. If a connection interruption occurs when gnubiff is checking mail, it never recovers and will always show the 'Error' status for that account, even if afterwards the connection is stable. [Bug 371682] [NEW] D-Link DWL-G650+ uses wrong firmware
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-firmware Jaunty does not work out of the box with a D-Link AirPlus DWL-G650+ wifi card. When inserting the card, the kernel detects the card and loads the acx111 module correctly. However, network-manager reports the following during detection: NetworkManager: info (wlan0): driver does not support SSID scans (scan_capa 0x00). ... (loading) NetworkManager: WARN nm_error_monitoring_device_link_state(): error monitoring device for netlink events: error occurred while waiting for data on socket Afterwards I tried to test its wifi capabilities. 'Iwlist scanning' fails, and 'iwconfig wlan0 essid essid' does not associate. When enabling wireless in network-manager, the kernels locks up and I had to reboot with Alt-Sysrq-B. To fix it I had to use the same method as in Dapper onwards, i.e. use ndiswrapper to load D-Link's firmware distributed from their website. [Bug 139686] Re: Pidgin 2.2.0 in Gutsy
Sorry, for some reason 2.2.0~ppa2 is still on Pending Removal status for my PPA and not starting the rebuild for both architectures yet. I'm not quite sure what's causing the delay... still getting the hang of these packaging stuff. :) I hope my package is not what's causing the problems. Not sure about the bad image index errors (icon cache not updated/packaging error with pidgin-data perhaps?)... we should probably figure out the causes in a separate bug report if it keeps reoccuring. Sure! Try these links: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=110944 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=74651 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=285809 (This is for Broadcom cards, but the steps are pretty similar) A few things of note: - you'll need to install ndiswrapper-utils-1.8 instead of 1.1 (there's 2 similarly-named packages in the repository). For some reason 1.1 didn't work for me. - You'll need to prevent the acx_pci kernel module from loading so ndiswrapper can take over, so add: blacklist acx to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist, and then do sudo modprobe -r acx before moving on to loading ndiswrapper. - You'll need to use this link: ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/wireless/dwl-g650+_rev_Bx/dwl-g650+_bx_drv_utility_v3.10b19.zip for the driver.
