[Bug 23471] Re: The cursor section of mouse preference needs an install button.

2007-12-04 Thread Jib
I know this comment is not constructive, but :

Such slowness or frivolity in bugs or whatever has first made me weary
about contributing and then quit Linux world to Mac OS X : the best
(dumb ?) consumer position with high quality usability, advanced
innovation, it just works out of the box and, well, the very feeling
that my needs are understood and adressed.

I wish you to choose the best road.

[Bug 83188] Ramdisk load failed at the first reboot

2007-02-04 Thread Jib
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yaboot

It happened to me twice : the first time a bit earlier than the Feisty
Fawn Herd 1, the second time after an Feisty Herd 3 reinstallation.

After the Yaboot prompt, Yaboot tried to load Linux, as expected. Yet it
returned an error : "ramdisk load failed"

I found no means to overcome that and boot anyway.

After the reinstallation, the first boot worked. I enjoyed Herd 3. I
updated my system, and as recommended, I rebooted. The bug was back.
This situation carries on.

iBook G4 1.07 GHz model.

Would someone care about this bug, since the PPC support drop and
assuming this is likely a PPC bug ?

Re: [Bug 3694] Re: Advanced ads blocking

2006-11-30 Thread Jib
It's a Galeon/Epiphany (they had merged, hadn't they ?) report bug. The
features request want Epiphany to match the AdBlockPlus features.

I've tried Firefox, with Adblock+, it's great, dispite I rather want a
perfectly OS integrated gtk application. Galeon is a gtk application, with
an unmatchable integration within Gnome (even with all the linux team
efforts). Yet Galeon lacks AdBlock+-like features. I merely ask for adding
those great features in the navigator with the bestly designed for Gnome web
browser.

By the way, thanks all the Epiphany/Galeon team ! Great work. :¬D

Re: [Bug 13090] Re: Nautilus sound preview doesn't work with OGG files.

2006-11-01 Thread Jib
Sorry, if someone felt insulted. It was a mere remark to point out that it
has already done somewhere. Hence, it could teach the answer to get all work
fine. Furthermore, I wondered how Gnome project is handled inside and
outside the bounds of the projects, and generally how the project coped the
issue.

That's all I meant. You look slightly touchy. But I didn't want to fuel a
flame war KDE/Gnome (Previously, I thought it was mostly the fans of each
desktop environment and not the developers themselves who are sensitive to
such facts… ). So : I apologize to be maladroit and let you adress this bug

[Bug 59947] False compositing activation

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

In Gconf, when I tick /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager,
nothing happens, according to the gnome 2.16 release notes [1], metacity

Yet, for simple users as me, compiling it is painful.

Somehow it has to be far more simple, maybe with another metacity

by instance, in conflict with the normal metacity 2D package, that the
end user could choose in Synaptic.

2006-06-21 Thread Jib
I precise that I NEVER hacked my kernel. I just reinstalled some times
my / partition (and kept /home), but I never compiled the kernel myself
or whatever.

[Bug 45969] Re: Always running previous version of the kernel

2006-06-20 Thread Jib
I installed 2.6.17-1 and 2.6.17-2 from edgy repositories. I reboot after each
installation : Whan I try to remove the 2.15-22, I still get the message :
"perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
LANGUAGE = "fr_FR:fr:en_GB:en",
LC_ALL = (unset),
LANG = "fr_FR.UTF-8"

perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").

You are running a kernel (version 2.6.15-22-powerpc) and attempting to remove
the same version. This is a potentially disastrous action. Not only
will /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-22-powerpc be removed, making it impossible to boot
it, (you will have to take action to change your boot loader to boot
a new kernel), it will also remove all modules under the directory
/lib/modules/2.6.15-22-powerpc. Just having a copy of the kernel image is not
enough, you will have to replace the modules too.

I repeat, this is very dangerous. If at all in doubt, answer
no. If you know exactly what you are doing, and are prepared to
hose your system, then answer Yes."

So I got four Linux kernel installed on my up-to-date edgy eft, and I'm
still using the oldest.

When I installed the 2.6.17-1, I got this message :

"perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:

[Bug 49667] openoffice does not start

Same bug on up-to-date edgy eft on iBook G4.

I likely would get the same terminal feedback if I knew the command
line.
