RE: [Bug 1509856] Re: Trying to upgrade to 15.10

2015-10-26 Thread Jim Baker
Suspected that was the problem. The third try at upgrade completed;
mirror was probably overloaded with people like me wanting the upgrade.
Thanks.

[Bug 1248478] [NEW] NFS client readdir loop

2013-11-06 Thread Jim Baker
Public bug reported:

Apparent duplicate of this expired bug, reproducing on 12.04 LTS which
is still supported.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1026139

I get several errors of the following form on the client side of an NFS4
mount. I Issue may be related to the large number of files in the mount
point, there are about 150K in there.

NFS: directory xxx contains a readdir loop. Please contact your server
vendor. The file: xxx has duplicate cookie xxx

The software fails with Too many levels of symbolic links. No errors
appear on the server log.

3.- I expect the software to access the files and no readdir loop errors
to occur

4.- Software fails with Too many levels of symbolic links, kernel logs
NFS: directory xxx contains a readdir loop. Please contact your server
vendor. The file: xxx has duplicate cookie xxx

No apparent problems are present on the server and I can share out the
same filesystem via SMB without any issues.

Attaching ubuntu-bug, version signature and lspci from both client and
server side.

[Bug 1034837] Re: authentication token expiry with openstack provider

2012-09-21 Thread Jim Baker
According to http://docs.openstack.org/api/quick-
start/content/index.html#Getting-Credentials-a00665, code using the
OpenStack REST API should request a new token upon receiving a 401
status code, then retry.

In the OpenStack provider, for every client request, the
`_OpenStackClient.is_authenticated` method is checked to see if a token
needs to be first requested. However, as currently implemented, this
method will never reset to being False. So solving this bug simply
requires ensuring that any 401 status code does in fact do that;
something as simple as setting `self.token = None` in the `_empty` and
`_json` result processing methods should suffice. (We can also return a
better exception too, so as to improve the logging in the provisioning
agent, just to indicate this expiration is to be occasionally expected.)

With that change, the provisioning agent will retry as it always does
when it encounters provider errors, thus fufilling the requirements of
the above link, and thereby fixing this bug.

[Bug 767570] Re: pyflakes crashed with AttributeError in handleNode(): 'Checker' object has no attribute 'SET'

2011-08-19 Thread Jim Baker
I believe this comes up in the assignment of class variables in the
Check class in checker.py. SET is not there, at least as of 0.4, and
this may be related to the fact that PyFlakes does not support the AST
for Python 2.7, as seen in constructs like dict comprehensions (with the
DICTCOMP attribute), which raised the same AttributeError.

You can reproduce this error readily by running pyflakes on Ensemble
source on trunk r321. Short discussion with respect to Ensemble in bug
829734.

[Bug 224802] [NEW] after sudo su (su -), gnome-terminal [or a virtual terminal -bash] exits (logouts) with any single keypress

2008-04-30 Thread Jim Baker
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sudo

Description:Ubuntu 8.04
Release:8.04

gnome-terminal:
  Installed: 2.22.1-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.22.1-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 0
500 http://ubuntu.mirror.frontiernet.net hardy/main Packages

sudo:
  Installed: 1.6.9p10-1ubuntu3
  Candidate: 1.6.9p10-1ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 1.6.9p10-1ubuntu3 0
500 http://ubuntu.mirror.frontiernet.net hardy/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Here's how to duplicate the bug:
-Open a gnome terminal from Applications-Accessories-Terminal-
-or-
-Open a virtual terminal using Ctrl-Alt-F2 (for example)-
-then enter the following command
sudo su
-or-
sudo su -
-after entering your password and receiving the # prompt all is well, but, then
type-
exit
-and then try get the root prompt again, as follows-
sudo su
-or-
sudo su -
-you will get a root prompt, but the very first key you press, any key, will
immediately either-
exit
-or-
logout
-respectively-

Here's a cut/paste of a sample session.
Below I hit the j key at the root prompt and get kicked out of root.
Entering sudo -k temporarily allows the use of sudo su (or sudo su -) again.
It is necessary to type exit and leave root, then try to get in again, in
order to see the bug.

Re: [Bug 57444] Re: Installer crashed, it fails to install boot loader

2006-10-05 Thread Jim Baker
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 43768 ***

Followup on bug 57444 re Installer crashed. The installer seemed unable
to correctly handle MANUAL install, which is what I was trying to do.
Yet, when I relented and selected AUTO install, the installer worked
without difficulty, selecting the largest unused space for the
installation.

Thanks for your report. I believe this is the same as bug 43768; I'd
welcome testing of Edgy daily builds once ubiquity 1.1.26 or newer
 lands
 in them.

[Bug 58423] Re: [Bug 58423] Re: installer crashes; problem seems related to yaboot/Apple bootstrap partition

2006-09-01 Thread Jim Baker
I think that's what I sent to the bug report web page (and included in
this post). If not, since the installer crashed and I don't have an
operable installation, I'm not sure how I would get this page up. Any
suggestions?
Thanks,
Jim Baker

 Thanks in advance.

[Bug 58423] installer crashes; problem seems related to yaboot/Apple bootstrap partition

2006-08-31 Thread Jim Baker
Public bug reported:

Note: On the forum, I noticed some discussion of similar problems, but
it's not clear that they a) have been reported, or b) have been
resolved. I just received my install disc mailed from Canonical, and I
can't get it to install on the G-4 Mac Pismo. I followed some suggested
remedies and still have succeeded. The problem seems to have something
to do with the Apple bootstrap partition--getting that properly set up
(no tech help in Ubuntu for it, only an error message that it can't
find/there is no bootstrap partition. Despite that message, with OS X
partition deleted, the Ubuntu installer completed a 98% install in the
root sector it was directed to, and also acknowledged the swap partition
--but then the installer crashed with the following message: Sorry, the
installer has crashed; please report the following, etc.: Any help
appreciated.
