[Bug 1820604] Re: curtin fails to find itself in subiquity snap, when running on serial-subiquity@.service

2019-04-29 Thread Jim K
I received the error below, on a physical device. The device is an
APU2D4 with a 120 GB mSATA SSD and has no video, so I was using the
serial port as a putty terminal.

vendor site on the device: https://www.pcengines.ch/apu2d4.htm

I was following this article to use the serial port during install:

http://www.sundby.com/index.php/install-ubuntu-16-04-with-usb-stick-and-
serial-console/

I was using the ubuntu-18.04.2-live-server-amd64.iso image loaded on the
USB with RUFUS.

An error occurred during installation

[Bug 875543] Re: can't eject cd rom : Inappropriate ioctl for device

2013-07-08 Thread Jim K
I found the same problem on 12.04; I think it started when I was using
Rythm Box to extract some music from a CD, and when I saw that it was
creating .ogg files, I decided to terminate the job, and finding there
was no cancel button in the application, I pushed the eject button on
the cd drive, admittedly a brash act. The drive did open, but the
application hung, and something had changed irreversibly. The problem
still persists now as soon as I boot up I can open the drive with the
button once, but after that, there is nothing that will open it except a
reboot, or the terminal command sudo eject -i off, which does not
eject, but re-enables the button on the drive. I have been really
pleased with 12.04; this is the first shortcoming that I have found that
was significant to me.

[Bug 636033] Re: Soundcard not detected

2010-09-13 Thread Jim K
Similar problem: I lost sound and the system reports 'sound card not
detected' as soon as I upgraded the kernel from 2.6.32-23 to 2.6.32-24.
On all earlier versions the sound card was automatically detected. This
is on a Toshiba laptop running Ubuntu Lucid 10.4 with all available
updates installed.

[Bug 234635] [NEW] anagramarama crashes on launch

2008-05-24 Thread Jim K
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: anagramarama

Using hardy heron (8.04) recently installed on Toshiba Satellite laptop.
This game worked before on same laptop with gutsy gibbon. After
installing anagramarama on 8.04, (using Applications / Add/Remove ) it
ran once, but after some other installs and a reboot, now the game won't
launch, there is a brief flash on the screen, then nothing. I removed
the game, then reinstalled it, and still have the same problem.

[Bug 234635] Re: anagramarama crashes on launch

2008-05-24 Thread Jim K
Another game SDLjump that uses SDL (whatever that is) also won't run
correctly on this 8.04 laptop. In the case of SDLjump the program
cannot be terminated in a normal way, and required the use of system
monitor and the escape key to quit. Perhaps there is a problem with
SDL.

[Bug 153466] Re: [gutsy] X crashes randomly - something with cursors? (945GM)

I'm getting the same error when I use the bottom panel to
minimize/restore a firefox window. My backtrace matches. Preceding the
backtrace is a warning re: GART memory. gdm log file attached.

[Bug 157804] Re: keyboard dead every other reboot

2008-01-26 Thread jim k.
I reinstalled 7.10 from scratch last week. On the first boot I had the
same problem but after applying all the patches it hasn't happened again
for a week. i don't know where/why but it seems to be fixed (knock on
wood).

[Bug 157804] Re: keyboard dead every other reboot

2007-11-16 Thread jim k.
Here's a screenshot of the error I received once the keyboard is
working. It seems that my keyboard won't work if I let the grub menu
default to the boot kernel but if I select the default (hit enter)
then I don't have a problem

haha, that's pretty funny. I'll see if I can borrow a USB keyboard from
someone to see if I can get mine to work too!

[Bug 157804] Re: keyboard dead every other reboot

2007-11-10 Thread jim k.
I still can't effectively predict when I'll get the error. It's not as
often as every other reboot but it still happens on occasion. The only
error I've seen is once I received an error from the Gnome settings
daemon invalid settings (or maybe it was conflicting settings).

[Bug 157804] keyboard dead every other reboot

2007-10-27 Thread jim k.
Public bug reported:

Since I've upgraded to 7.10 my keyboard does not work after every other
reboot. To reproduce:
- restart
- keyboard seems to work throughout the restart process until just before the
login prompt on the way back up (tested with Caps Lock key. I can toggle Caps
Lock until the login prompt).
- using mouse, I select restart from the Options menu.
- system will not restart so I have to do a hardware reset
- keyboard usable the next time the login prompt comes up.
The same behavior is observed on a shutdown/start.
