[Bug 880323] [NEW] Could not calculate the upgrade to 11.10

2011-10-23 Thread Jim Smith
Public bug reported:

Greetings,

I keep getting only a partial upgrade to 11.10. I am a neophyte to
Ubuntu and I'm trying. This is the message that I get -

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
The package 'skype' is marked for removal but it is in the removal blacklist.

This can be caused by:
*Upgrading to a pre-lease version of Ubuntu
*Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
*Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
'ubuntu-bug update-manager' in a terminal.

And of course, I am lost. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

[Bug 481432] Re: [Karmic] wireless connection keeps dropping - WPA TKIP

2010-01-05 Thread Jim Smith
I also have this problem. I have a brand new (made Sept. 2009) Acer
Aspire One and I am running the 9.10 Notebook Remix.

My wireless interface is: AR928X Wireless network Adapter (PCI-Express)
Vendor: Atheros Communications Inc.

My wireless connection comes up when I boot the system, but then it
drops out after 5 minutes or so. This is really a pain!

[Bug 297484] [NEW] Firefox opens in full screen mode and cannot be moved or minimized.

2008-11-12 Thread Jim Smith
Public bug reported:

When viewing a site that has a lot of video content (such as YouTube) Firefox
can unexpectedly shift into a type of full screen mode that hides the edges of
the window so that the close-restore-minimise buttons at the top right cannot
be accessed.
Hitting F11 can restore the actual full screen mode. The Gnome Panels are also
covered so that if F11does not work the only option to switch desktops requires
that firefox be closed. Opening the customise option on the Title or Menu
bars will cause the panels to reappear until the customise window is closed.
